Shahbaz Hussain is one of Europe’s finest tabla players. First studying under his father, the vocalist Mumtaz Hussain, he went on learn from various gurus - Faiyaz Khan from the Delhi gharana, and Shaukat Hussain Khan and Allah Rakha from the Punjab gharana. He has developed an eclectic and versatile style, leading the fusion group Indus as well as accompanying touring classical artists. He is also active as a tabla teacher across the North of England.

Shabaz Hussain is such a humble guy. Once, I was standing outside a concert waiting to go in. The queue passed a stage entrance outside the hall, where a guy stood quietly. He spoke to me, asking how I was, my musicial interests etc. We had a nice chat. Then I sat in the concert and watched the same guy play tabla and bring the house down. A true musician has nothing to prove and no ego. This is what makes Shabaz Hussein such a great musician.
In my opinion his Tabla always sounds so clean and crisp. That left hand playing bass like Pt. Kumar Bose also doesn't hurt. Beautiful combination.

Shabaz Hussain (Better name in Punjabi type Gurmukhi: ਸ਼ਬਾਜ਼ ਹੁਸਸਾੲਨ) pronounced as Shabāz Hussāin, is a Punjabi person in India and his English is so good. How a Punjabi-Indian plays so good and faster! Great!

The Title is misleading. Highly misleading. Rhythms are from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Won't be a bad idea to just add the name Pakistan for once.
Thank you for your message. What we meant by Punjabi Folk rhythms is basically the repertoire from the Doab wherein, there was no difference between Pakistan and India. As music lovers, we still do not acknowledge this difference, it is just a mere geographical distinction that has been imposed by people who have not experienced the power of music :-)
@@darbarfestival I do not doubt your sincerity for once and the work you have done speaks for itself. It's just that extremeists and laggards in Pakistan have erased whatever connection our people had with the music. Immnensely talented people like Shehbaz barely make it on national TVs. I respect your opinion of undivideness in music because I truly believe that music is borderless and cannot be caged in artificial constructs. I just want my people to get recognition as well as I deeply yearn for it and as a music lover I hope you'll understand it.
@@darbarfestival Plus the rythmic patterns are different so in my humble opinion it would be better to mention sindhi, khyber, balochi rythyms to appreciate the diversity in rythm. Rest, I respect and appreciate your opinion and offer my love and prayers for this noblest of cause.
Also, in modern contexts Indian Classical Music is an exclusionist misnomer. It should be referred to as sub-continent's classical music.
