    Ohmmeters have ranges. For example the 200 range means it can read up to 200 ohms. The 2000 range means it can read up to 2000 ohms and so forth. When you short the test leads you are reading the resistance of the test leads themselves as the meter see's them. All conductors have some value of resistance. Any value to the right of the decimal point is less than 1. Tenths, hundredths, thousandths. Values to the left are whole number values. One, ten, hundred, and so forth.

    Yes. Exactly. Unforthnately to really test you need it to be like 1.9 to 2.2 kind of range. And mine only goes down low enough that it rounds to .2. It does not show the decimal. If it was bad it would spike to .5 or 0 ish. I think mine goes lowest to 200 ohms and then has settings for 2k and larger and needs to go to 20 ohms. But it is close enough to see a spike. I really just need to get a better ohm meter.
