It’s getting to the point where I think people have forgotten why they go camping in the first place. This is really about looking cool at the stoplight.
@justinboucher5923
Thank you. All of these shows are buy, buy and buy. Get in your car or truck get out to the desert, mountains or forest, pitch a tent and watch the sunset and listen to the breeze. That's what it all about in a nutshell.
Yup. For the most extreme hiking trips I had a simple borrowed hiking backpack rig (probably from the '70s), a borrowed old tent, a borrowed sleeping bag, not even dedicated hiking boots but just running shoes, and a borrowed cooker. We got to the trails in a normal car. Perfectly comfortable.
In the military for our most long and extreme missions out in harsh places in the middle of nowhere we had a tent which was not much more than an old tarp in the shape of a tent and a wood-burning stove with the chimney designed to exit the tent's roof. It was perfectly normal to use that equipment even in the winter, up to -25C in the snow for a week.
Whilst I do think overlanding should be kept simple, the reality is people are getting old and yet still want to get out in the wild. That´s why these overly luxurious trucks exist and to be honest most people who buy these for bragging rights only look stupid. They all look ridiculous unless you need the amenities.
@@MrSilverfish12 It's like summer cabins. They start out as simple buildings only, with no comforts. Then as time goes by owners (get wealthier and) add amenities, it gets easier to add amenities, roads and infrastructure appear nearer...
It's the same people using them.
My grandparents had a simple little one-room cabin next to a fishing village (plus a boathouse) on a remote island. A few decades later there was a full new house built there, with running water, sewage, even a dishwasher! Nowadays it even has high-speed internet and a heat pump so it has cooling even though it's in a pretty cold climate. And many of those systems can be controlled remotely. Same people, times change. It's in our nature to develop things (well, in some of our nature, others clearly only want to destroy and steal).
@@pistonburner6448 also this is an exhibition. If is common to see insane builds at these events because the showcase the technology and what companies are capable off. Maybe you don´t buy the kitchen but you want the wiring done for electricity or maybe you just want a stripped out version with the off road capability. These builds are often just meant for showcase anyway
It’s awesome how you get recognized everywhere you go! We love your videos guys, keep it up.
"Overlanding has officially jumped the shark." - The Fonz, 2023
Def would probably be that vehicle’s downfall in an apocalypse
Good thinking. Will have to delete when boogaloo hits.
I was just thinking that
Its so easy to just turn on these videos and watch/listen. You guys make it a pleasant experience.
that Rivian battery trailer LOL. A solution for a intentionally created problem.
LOL @ the battery trailer for the rivian
Finally someone said it! Thx Nathan! Yes, rooftop tents are stooopid for most users. Its a fad and people quickly realize their biggest value is how cool the vehicle looks. Unless you actually overland full time or for extended periods I rather use a regular ground tent.
What does value have to do with overlanding?
People say it’s stupid all the time. But what works for some maybe doesn’t work for others. I sleep really well in mine and it takes less than a minute to deploy and or put away.
I agree completely, though I do like truck bed options (e.g. slide-ins).
@@davidmartin6721 Poor people say it all the time. They don't understand the advantages. I have both an RTT and a Gazzelle Ground tent. The two options are 100% completely different applications, and the RTT is so much better beyond comprehension for multiple reasons.
Our family has been tent camping all around n Cali for past 10 years. With this experience...we can say that...tent camping is no problem in 4 months of summer but rest of the year it's a pain making sure to sleep comfortably n warm. I am pointing to cold and went ground Just for this reason..I think RTT's make perfect sense.
Is there an interior video of the first vehicle?
Kudos to you guys for braving the rain on Friday.
Thank you!
You two guys are acting like your walking in the rain for us. You’re both truck nerds, and you’d be there drooling anyway. Andre really is like a puppy chasing squirrels. Love you both! Thank you for sharing!!
So cool that RAM AEV Prospector. Dream truck. 💪
35:19 Epic Family Roadtrip converted their JL & JK to the extra room of the JXL so they have more camping room
Thanks TFLoffroad for really interesting content!
Thank you for watching.
Awesome build's and also the love you all show/receive from everyone is what takes this channel over the top. Keep it the Great Work TFL team. 😎😁
Happy Sunday everyone ✌️
Okay, PLEASE follow up with Philip and do a video talking about his 50 state journey! I loved MMUSA, and I'd love to hear about his version.
We’re doing a podcast together soon! And thank you!👊🏽
I wouldn’t be able to walk past that silver 79 series without stopping
To bad the average person cannot afford most of it.
commercial
Then don’t be average
Just get the trailer hunter
I like the sound of that.
Most of the stuff on those trucks you wont need anyway. Get it based and add whatever you actually need yourself.
What a cool Trip with this old car. Wish you a great time with it and thanks for your Videos. I like them. Gretings from a Bavaria
It does seem like the inexpensive, simple, capable rigs that can go far off-road for fun are missing. I get awsome high line rigs get the press. I have a fairly capable 2014 4Runner trail and we have fun getting out there and don't have to worry about $20,000 paint or $10,000 wheels...the Buhanka, makes me happy!
Hey Jeep, if you read these comments, please build an overlanding VAN on the Gladiator platform, with a DIESEL engine, and take my money!
Cool to see alot of fans of the channel. And yes agreed with Nathan about the ebike roaming around big area events. I use it for watching motorsports and viewing different parts of the track 👍
Gentlemen this episode was informative moreso than usual. Both of youbaddressed
So many options and upgrades to Overlanding vehicles.
Very enjoyable guy's!
👏👏👍👍
Thank you for watching and the kind words.
@@TFLoffroad 🙏
Andre is great. I’d hang with him no problem.
Thank you for the kind words.
52:17 That dog had too many beers. Lol call a medic.
Nice video! Would love to be there! I'm not a huge fan of roof top tents either because I don't have a great place store it or can fit myJeep in my garage with it on. Also, I live in TX and it is just too hot in the summer for me. I believe that if I lived in Colorado, for example, had tons of public state land and with beautiful weather at night then I might re-consider. We just prefer a home base and use a lightweight taxa cricket. Works for us at least but as usual there are draw backs to that as well.
Fantastic walk around showing and talking through all this cool new stuff 👍
42 is the answer to everything. Thank you for the reference.
Great seeing you guys there! Keep the videos coming
All u need Stand up,good chair, water,heat
Amazing expo and thanks for sharing it I salute you guys from Mérida, Venezuela, and that beautiful Rubicon from the min 39:05 amazing rig those Micky Thompson 😮😮😮 and that dude is like Mad Eye Moody from Harry Potter 😂😂😂 love the expo
14:43 I could not agree more, I love the blue, one of the most difficult colors to find.
It was nice to see John Gish from Ursa Minor in the video. It’s the most underrated camper in existence! 42 is in fact the answer.
The money people spend on some of those rigs is pretty wild lol😂
Thank you for the great content. Agree with the roof top tents, I want to be able to stand upright inside my sleeping area, comfort is key to continuous travel
Great fan interaction. Keep it up guys!
Got to see you guys up there. Great event!!! Love what you and Nathan are doing. Keep it up.
Dang- I wanted to be there this weekend.
Maybe next time. Thanks for posting.
Nathan is best....
Good to see you guys at Expo West. You were really moving fast, by the time I noticed. Good work in the rainy bog!
Great to have some coverage of the expos! Makes me want to be there...
I rolled over there for the weekend. Fortunately didn’t rain quite this much but it was wet. There’s so much to see. It’s crazy how much money has been put into this particular manner of camping/travel/recreation. You really feel left out if you don’t own a RTT. Thanks for the tour!
This car park was most likely the most extreme place most of these vehicles have ever been.
Humvee portal axles are prone to failures on highway driving. They were a common wear
eplace item. Replacing the old underpowered diesel is a good start. I would however be worried about parts availability.
great walk around..... Anything new for Truck campers ????
Lets see how long that vehicle will last trying to cross the Darien Gap....
Bingo PAL 😊
Go
Michael Yon
💯🤙🏻😎
Stop da INVASION
Thanks for the walk around. Loved the video
That Wagoner was probably running the Buick 350 option from that year. Called the Dauntless. Great engine!
Great Video!!
If you ever travel outside the US you will be surprised how important the height of the vehicle becomes.
Good show 👍👍
Amazing, I never knew of these things. I was thinking of a camper topper for my truck yesterday. It's amazing what sheet metal will do.
My 79 ford bronco has 485k with the original 400m been all over the Westcoast especially here in Nevada
Man, I love America 😂
I sold my CJ-7 last weekend. I guess it is time to focus on the 2002 Taco (after I supercharge my 2023 Tremor). Peace, Love!!
This: 😁
Me: Hope's and dreams
For it to be raining and folks still walking around checking these setups says allot about this hobby, may have to get into this myself
Liquid spring is an awesome product, I have driven old ambulances with and without, with liquid spring you can feel a lot better driving. I hope Andre gets some sleep, sounds like he has been traveling a lot.
The rivians are cool but not sure if the trailer is worthwhile. It can charge the energy you lost by towing it.
37:01 TAV (Tactical Application Vehicles) has always used Comeup winches
Great for taking it down the i75 trail lol. What do you even do with that?
Glad I saw this! I didn't see you guys find any colorado zr2 or Jeep gladiator. I personally not a fan of the whole tent thing up top. But wouldn't the weight of the rack, big tires and the tent all combine just squash your mpg to having terrible mpg? If your off the grid, off roading the last thing you want to think about is the mpg .
It's literally a sandcrawler from Star Wars
And a super model🤣🤣
I always think I want to go to one of these events...and then I see videos like this full of corporate builds covered in decals that have clearly never seen dirt. It's just the outdoor version of SEMA.
Definitely wouldn't take an electric vehicle overlanding..
The white GX had the lightest tent on the market, 87lbs
catch the i hint from under that bus Let TFL drive the polaris expedition
Hey I made it into the video! Tan jacket and hat in the background at 11:52!
40:03 Venture4x4 on YT has an Ursa Minor top
You have mainly rooftop tent campers in that Overland Expo. Not that big a deal in Australia. At most Caravan and Camping Shows here you may get two or three
Have to love the oblivious people that come-in w/ dumb questions & step all over their coverage.
it's ok Andrei, we got the joke. perfect with your timing too. 43's
The first vehicle is stupid large. I just don’t get those massive overland rigs, good luck taking them anywhere! The largest vehicle I would personally get would be a long bed crew cab truck, long wheel base sprinter or a larger Fuso.
Cool video.
Nathan,
Roman should but a Winnebago Ekko with the roof tent and outside kitchen so 4 of you can camo near any destination you drive in advance.
You would be comfortable, and it's a company tax deductible expense.
Imagine all the videos you can film while going or returning from your destination. Also the garage is absurd. So no lack of gear, ever.
I wish you guys had covered the motorcycle camping stuff. You guys mentioned it in this video but never got to it in your walk-around . Would love to see something about that in future. Nonetheless, Thx for this video!
Easy Andre. you're going to kill Nathan, out there trying to keep up with you! 😆😉
Hotels are not pleasant if you have bad allergies or have experienced bed bugs
nuts 😂😂😂
Old mate at the 27 minute mark must have just woken up from a 13 year coma. “ Dodge” 🤣🤣🤣
That first truck is only good for flat open areas. If you plan on living in the desert or some open plain, go for it. If you want to go on any unbeaten path, forget it.
I wish we would've seen some love for the new Nissan Frontier. Seems like a small market that's untapped.
I Really Like my Frontier
WOW Nathan slow it down! Your rushing everything and everyone!
You're holding the camera but this guy that's next to you they guy your with is the spitting image of George Constanza. His voice, his mannerisms, he's chubby and he even walks like George Constanza, but his voice sounds exactly the same as George's voice. It is so funny he even has the attitude and the way he explains things. Are you sure it's not him? becausse when I hear him I can't help myself to think it really is him.
Wow that’s was unbelievable. Must be nice . We don’t have anything like like this in Canaduh
Wait you can’t just pan the camera around that Polaris. Creatively!
2 million for that truck ? compare to a German Expedition Truck , around 500 k , where is the 1.5 mill rest ? Have a look at Unikat Expedition trucks . mind blowing !
you can ask 10 million dollars for your underwear....doesn't mean anybody will buy it..
Is it really overlanding if there’s nowhere it’ll fit offroad?
Lol all the rain commentary
Honda going Ford Explorer looking…
Ford is tooo busy trying to redefine "TOUGH" to have a booth at the show smh
Lol, make your rig built for a reason. Just pull a trailer if you want a hotel room. Peace, Love!!
That was the micro “Ike Gauntlet” right?
One thing I can tell about this video is there was a lot of drinking going on!!
53:16 I prefer hotels…earn points for free nights, learn about the best credit cards, too… you can probably save some pretty good money by staying in hotels over a weekend then investing in and maintaining all of the direct and indirect equipment needed for a trailer or a tent. Imagine how many hotel nights you could get instead of buying a $40,000 pull behind trailer- about 200 nights… that would probably earn you lifetime status, and free nights that are probably additional week or two
Enjoy your bed bugs….
Crap I live an hour and half away from the overland expo west,I totally forgot about it
Such a large truck. (Tiny wheels) if the truck ever gets stuck in the wilderness, how would you ever recover it?
FYI the Baja Pro XS is actually a 43
Thanks for showing us the 4x4 show, but unfortunately for us in Australia, a lot of modifications you guys have on your 4x4 are illegal in Australia due to safety reasons.
Probably why the bronco will not be coming to our shores.
