    I'm not sure including samurais in game is decent here. Though this is a mythical game, there are still lots of histroical basis for human units, most of them are designed in a classical age style, an era when Samurais hadn't exist. Futhermore, samurais are overly prevalent, almost every game with a little connection to Japan features them, imo this might lead to a somewhat very superficial and rigid interpretation of Japanese culture. I consider this is a good opportunityto introduce the world to a more ancient Japan, thus I would prefer the lesser-known "Kondei(健児)" or "Sakimori(防人)", these are way older Japanese military than Smurai.

      The Norse are clearly medieval, Egyptians are very clearly Bronze Age, and the Greeks are also clearly classical. This spans a period of 3000 years + of human history, lol.
      People are delusional if they think that a potential Japan won't include Samurai. I wouldn't mind it at all, but if I had to bet I would bet that Japan would be heavily influenced by the Kamakura Period and Genpei War. This period is what is mostly associated with mythical Japan.

      This game is not about historical accuracy and I am fine with that, I just want it to be fun.

    Here's my take
    Gods:
    * Amaterasu - Goddess of the Sun (Economy-centric)
    * Susanoo - God of Storms (Military and Navy-centric)
    * Tsukuyomi - God of the Moon (Mythos-centric)
    *** took these 3 coz they're the 3 prominent children of Izanami and Izanagi, and I didn't want to take the couple as individual gods
    God Powers:
    * Hyakki Yagyō (Hundred Demon Night Parade) - turns into night, and youkais start appearing in target area towards target direction, killing enemy units over it's duration. Ineffective against Heroes and Mythological Units. If a power is activated that changes night to day, this power is ended early.
    * Bamboo Forest - quickly turns the target area into a bamboo forest for wood gathering. Bamboo Forest provide higher yields of wood, but the bamboo trees themselves have lower HP than normal trees, so they get consumed much faster.
    * Impossible Tasks - Sends target non-mythological enemy units to search for Kaguya's treasures, forcing them to retreat outside of the map. (The player owning these units effectively looses control of those units until they disappear upon leaving the map.)
    Heroes:
    * Momotaro - from the folklore of the same name. Very effective against mythological units.
    * Urashima Taro - amphibious hero. Can summon a transport boat for free.
    * Kintaro - powerful hero unit with superhuman strength
    * Kaguya-hime - hero unit version of a Miko (below) that doubles grail bonuses when assigned to a shrine
    Mythological Units:
    * Yukionna - ranged unit, capable of freezing infantry and cavalry.
    * Daidarabotchi - a colossal unit, almost as big as Titans, but cannot traverse waters
    * Ryuu (dragon) - Titan unit. Only aerial Titan in the game, but can still be attacked by other Titans. Highly susceptible to archers and flying units.
    Infantry
    * Miko - ranged unit. Priestesses that generate trickling favor and gold when assigned to a Shrine

    Yea Japanese would be Cool, Trojans, Chinese I think will be back, I’ve heard Aztecs eventually I think they will keep adding civs like the other games

  • @CanadianEhHole
    @CanadianEhHole Місяць тому +5

    People saying not to include samurai because it doesn't mesh well with the era of the game but then suggesting the Aztecs, which would be cool but... samurais are older than the Aztec empire. Aztec mythos is older than the empire, obviously, but we don't have much to go on for them that is older than the empire.

    • @dglukesluthier
      @dglukesluthier Місяць тому

      I would be against either. If you're gonna do a meso civ it should be Olmec or something vague but Aztec inspired like Mexica

    • @royasturias1784
      @royasturias1784 Місяць тому

      @@dglukesluthierTime capsules of ancient Olmec and later Toltec cultures were scant and unexploitable, and no amount of firsthand time travel could get them portrayed positively and accurately.

    • @dglukesluthier
      @dglukesluthier Місяць тому

      @@royasturias1784 I don't think that necessarily matters, look at the Norse. But positively naming them after a late medieval culture doesn't fit the game.

    • @royasturias1784
      @royasturias1784 Місяць тому

      @@dglukesluthierOnce people had decided the Aztecs/Mexica choice, it's final. They've had several declassified documents about the culture, that somehow remains alive in some niche neopagan movement in México sans human sacrifice.
      Their equivalent of the Samurai is actually the Cuachicqueh, the Shorn Ones, the veterans who had proven their merits by having captured around 8 to 10 enemies in battle and given the best gear of their tech pride (still containing no or little amount of metal)
      Daimyou equivalent? Tetecuhtin
      Workers? Tlacohtin
      The clergy? Tlamacazqui
      Shogun? Tlatoani

    • @hugetung
      @hugetung Місяць тому +3

      That's a racist comment.
      Ancient China and ancient Japan are completely different civilisations in terms of language, culture, religion, everything.

    • @royasturias1784
      @royasturias1784 Місяць тому +1

      And I bet you haven't tried all the Native American civs in AoE3 DE, The WarChiefs pack added
      "Keh-giz"
      "Kratawa"
      The Aztecs/Mexica civ for AoM Re-Told has the highest likelihood to represent the New World. Quinametzin giants, Chaneque goblins, Azcatl spiders, Totochtin that are divine and rowdy rabbits... Tlaxcalan, Purépecha and Chichimeca neighbours to raid and take prisoners...

  • @gaoaibai6243

    First!
    But yeah just take a look at the AOE 1 Yamato civ AOM will basically copy-paste the exact same stuffs from AOE 1 and heck no suprises if they even took the name Yamato tbh. It will prolly be full cavalry focus with a sprinkle of Onmyoji because I can't imagine them not puttin any Yokai in the game tbh. The game is AOM, no chances they won't miss the chance for the classic tengu, yuki onna and the likes whose models are all over the internet to shine in the game.
    As much as I like prince Takeru... It will prolly be Queen Himiko let's be honest here. We are in 2024 after all, and Japan has an ancient queen whose period of reign also happens to fit in somewhat with the overall timeline of AOM, aka 300 BC or sth. Not having any ninja or samurai is gonna suck but what can they do bout it? The game is AOM after all not AOE 2 so... Yeah it is what it is.

    Samurai are too modern. It would be like including medieval knights vs hoptiles. To quote Red from OSP: "Not every Japanese sword is a katana, GOD DAMMIT ANIME!" If they're going to do ancient Japan, make it ANCIENT Japan.

    • @Lacertos
      @Lacertos Місяць тому +3

      AoM is not constrained by historical periods, you have medieval Norse fighting bronze age Egyptians, there's a bigger difference between these two periods than between the viking age and the man landing on the moon, lol.
      There is zero chance that if this game includes Japan, it will not include Samurai, literally zero, they are just too iconic and popular.

    • @hugetung

      Ancient Egypt (3000 BC)
      Classical Greece (500 BC)
      Medieval Vikings (8th century)
      Samurai (9th century)
      By Ancient Egyptian standards, the Greek and Viking civilisations are close to modern times

    The Trinity of Shintoism (japonese polyteism) is Amaterasu, Susano'o and Tsukuyomi, but Shintoism is much more complex than that. Izanagi os a creator god above those 3, and there are land gods too.
    Titans are monsters that can hurt the gods, for the Japanese, that is Orochi, the 8 headed snake.
    Samurai were not present in classical ages, they are a medieval thing, like the Knights, so, no for samurai.
    Warrior monks, those are old. Shinto Exorcists are old (Abeno Seimei for reference). Shinto ritual priestess are old. Those must make scene.
    Something mythological for then would be the legends of the First Emperor, the times of Abeno Seimei, the youkai, the Ainu people, the legend of Morotarou (peachboy). Must see...
    Ps.: they have canibalistics mermaids, that if you eat there flesh you can never grow old. Mermen for aquatic beats!

    • @royasturias1784
      @royasturias1784 Місяць тому +2

      Measoamerican... the Aztecs/Mexica are the strongest bet
      Mesopotamian, although at some point in history, Egypt's greatest territorial extent had been under Pharaoh Thutmose when his legions conquered Israel to the western part of MP. Sumer, Elam, Assyria, Babylonia had insufficient quantity of monsters / cryptids to draw from based on many time capsules recovered by archaelogists and linguists versed in cuneiform writ. The Persians (skipping the period of the Hellenistic Seleucids because Olympian deity worship) who adhered to Zoroastrianism might have the biggest chance, though proto-Arabic wights like djinns, ifrits and marids will be taken into consideration.
      Türks... documents about Tengrism had been too few, especially in the monsters / cryptids department.
      Celts, especially Irish Celts, for they had everything to qualify for an AoM culture candidate: deities, folk heroes, monsters, mortal military units, strong affinity to trees
      Slavs, thanks in part to The Witcher media... No pseudo-deities like Lada and Chislobog, please
      Hindu culture... Workers being separated by caste (similar to Norse Gatherers and Dwarfs): Dalits being good in hunting and gathering from animals (except cattle, buffalo, yaks, zebus and antelopes) and berry bushes, Shudras that build all buildings except Farms and gather Wood and Gold better, and Vaishyas that can build Farms and can gather Food from Farms and berry bushes better. The rest is nearly like the Indians in AoE3 DE, with the Favor gain by having cattle close to Temples.
      Oceania, sadly the Filipino/Tagalog (pronounced 'tah-gah-log') culture has been the most documented firsthand and secondhand (by Spaniards), Heck, cannon-like weapons (lantaka) were already there, and mounted on karakoa warships as my ancestors had skipped lessons on making crossbows, ballistae and trebuchets. Also, deities and monsters before conquistador ML de Legaspi's history-making blood compact with Chief Sikatuna

    I love game theory, I'm always interested in faction concepts. Thank you for your take.
    Also, I believe the age3 unit Naganita is named after its weapon. Willing to be wrong, just that's what I had thought. Based on D & D books, so I can be wrong.

    Let’s not forget how bad the units look in AOE 4, where you can barely tell the difference between the units because of the over colour saturation. I don’t trust world’s edge to design new units for the game

    anyway the Japanese idea is pretty neato, I just think if how they gain favor could be different enough compared to the original 4
    also hope they keep adding another myths unit from various region, even if it just as standalone units. cheers

    Their stuff is too close to China. And aside from kitsune or kappa or tengu or oni they have nothing interesting to bring to the table.

      And the Chinese culture has its own distinct mythical bestiary not only the jiangshi, the fenghuang (phoenix), the longma (dragon-horse) and the Terra-cotta Golems
      The pixiu (winged lion), the xiangliu (serpent with nine heads), the huodou (Barghest), the qilin, the yeren (Sasquatch-ish beings and arguably the name inspiration of Eren Jaeger from Shingeki no Kyojin), the zhenniao (bird with poisonous feathers), the longgui (dragon turtle), the ruishi or shishi (stone guardian lions), the ba-she (anacondas able to devour pachyderms) and the wangliang (undead/demons scarier than the jiangshi)
      The 4 Divine Beasts (Qinglong, Baihu, Zhuque, Xuanwu) and the 4 Perils (Hundun, Qiongqi, Taotie, Taowu) to be taken into consideration

      In fact, Japanese mythology is closer to ancient Greek mythology, and some plots are even highly overlapped. However, the compilation of Japanese mythology was influenced by Chinese "history books" (or biographical literature). That is, to explain the legitimacy of the royal rule. It cannot be ignored that some of the early myths of ancient China also came from surrounding tribes, such as the Miao people, and even from Indian culture, but it cannot be simply said that Chinese mythology is not worth mentioning. Ancient Greek mythology was actually also influenced by Asia, such as Dionysus, but its birthplace never had a moving story like ancient Greece. The key lies in the content created or imitated by each civilization. This is just a game. In addition to the brief encyclopedia content, what you can see during the game is nothing more than some simple differences in names and forms. From a marketing perspective, even Cthulhu can be added. And I believe that Cthulhu's barracks will also be U-shaped.
