My favorite modern-day Christian song. I've been listening to this for well over 25 years, and it still touches my heart. God bless him for writing it for all of us.
Wow! I didn't know there was a live performance of this song, Hard to Get. Thank you for posting it. This song has meant a lot to me, helping me to continue going to God for some seriously troubling things that have happened to me and others.
It's called 2nd Saturday Sing at 7 - basically a monthly open mic and worship night that my parent's run. It's still going on to this day! Rich was in the process of becoming a confirmed Catholic.
One of my most favorite songs of his. Pointing out our grievous need for God's presence and yet how we sometimes cannot even get past our own shortcomings to seek him.
It's about watching others die and wondering. Praying for an answer, but hearing nothing. Frustration, desperation. God why don't you answer? Ohh there you are. I think I can sleep tonight. I'm not so scared anyymore
@jms, It’s conclusion in the end sums up surrender. “I can’t see how you’re leading me, unless You’ve led me here, to where I’m lost enough to let myself be led.!” When we find Jesus, and really submit our lives and hearts to Him as the Lord of our lives, our lives don’t necessarily get easier - but He promises that He will never leave us . He sent the HS to reside in us- in a hole in ourselves that nothing else in this world ( drugs, money, sex , fame) can fill. Only Jesus. And as we learn to seek Him through His Word ( the Bible) and other believers in community- we become less of the old man we were and more like Him. For anyone that tells you , say a prayer of salvation and leave unchanged- find another Church willing to help you grow in your faith continuously Seeking Him and getting to know Him. You can talk to Him like a friend. ❤️🙏🤗
This is absolutely beautiful. How lucky are we to have known the likes of this exquisite man. Thank you so much, Peter Kruse, for sharing these priceless videos! I want to say something to Jolynn Gibson, regarding his comment that God took Rich home to prevent him from becoming Catholic: God doesn't do things like that. God is not a hater of Catholics. He loves everyone, no matter what their religion, or lack of one, whatever the case may be. My friend's son was killed in Iraq---he never got to see his newborn baby. Why did that have to happen? Who can explain loss of any kind? Just so grateful to have known and to behold dear Rich Mullins. Videos like these keep his spirit alive. He was one of a kind, so delightful, poignant, and generous to the core. Not to mention one funny dude! I love and appreciate him so much.
Sorry to hear about your friends son. I had some pretty amazing things happen spiritually when I left religion. The only conclusion I came to regarding this life is that maybe we choose to be here and live this life in a physical body. We have to learn to walk on our own.
My all-time RWM too... What an incredible song this is. Many people feel the same, but only Rich could translate our feelings like in this song, i guess.. Thanks you!
I remember the first time I heard this song I had been a Rich Mullins fan for a number of years and was already completely amazed at his lyrics. This song, however, put into a song exactly what had always gone through my head. God tells us He is close, but He somehow can feel so far away, or so hard to get. I love how Rich wraps it up with "and so You've been here all along I guess." Just perfection, and just so true. Rich never was able to do a real studio recording of this song, but you had him sing it in person in your living room. I can't tell you how jealous I am that you had that experience. Someday I would love to come and sing at your 2nd Saturday Sing, if you are still having them. Rich was a huge influence on my own songwriting.
Hey brother Peter. Awesome testimony actually great story. Elijah is to me the most tear jerker of mullins. I heard he was a heartbroken man from others. I'm from the Netherlands I used to make music but since my best friend died and other happenings I've lost inspiration.I still love to listen to others. If I read your story about rich he have must been a very direct person. I love clear people no fake just be who they are. Was he a pleasant guy to be with? God bless you and it's end times. I hope the Lord comes quickly. Maranatha
Thank you so much for sharing these videos. I "discovered" Rich Mullins many years after his death. As with many others, his music touches the core of who I want to be and both shakes and cheers me. I often find myself crying while listening to him without being aware of it. As to whether he was Cathlic, Quaker, etc - who cares? Religous denominations do more to separate us from God than almost every other evil intent. As I understand it, Rich UNCONDITIONALLY believed in and loved God. Apparently, he passed this on to many of us. That is what is important. Our lives are far too short to debate "theologies." If the method of approaching faith is more important than the state of belief itself, you're on the wrong path pilgrim.
Thankyou for sharing this. I must admit I am extremely envious of you. Rich's music always inspired me while growing up in the 80's and 90's but only in recent years have I really discovered "who" he was and what he was like. I want to be like Jesus but I believe being like Rich to be a close second. I am certain though he would want to put me in my place for saying that.
Thanks Pete for the video in the living room what a unique blessing, whatever our late brother Rich said he was catholic, babtist, Lutheran.... That really makes no difference He had a heart for Jesus and that really is all that matters, and he used his gift of music to glorify the lord, and all of us 😂
He mentioned to us that he was in the process of becoming Catholic, for whatever reasons. That seemed to upset a lot of people, but I don't think that appeasing people was high on his list. :) You make some great points, btw.
he was a searcher.. in this world, if you believe in Jesus Christ, the cia is actively working to make you a catholic... nothing against Catholics. I just like the part where God said, "call no man on earth your Father." and "those who hear the word and do it shall be my mothers, brothers and friends. " and there is only one Teacher "even the Christ"... the universal religion was after Rich, if i know anything about how this system works.
Thanks for sharing, been searching for this song and so thankful a video was made. This is one of my favorites, but then I love all his songs. He was an amazing person and very funny. I strive to follow his example of what love truly means. Still missing him and wish I could have know him and seen him sing in person. This hurting world lost someone who really made a difference and touched so many broken souls.
Thank you so much for sharing! This song has gotten me through several difficult times in my life. I just missed seeing Rich in concert a few months before his death (my future-ex-wife was late in meeting me and we missed it!). But thank God for youtube and the opportunity to see these things. I also really appreciate your story. Rich was very good at humanizing himself for his audiences, and this story does more of the same. God has blessed many through his music and continues to do so.
I have such a hard time watching this last show of Rich’s. The people (audience) never stop talking and milling around throughout his performance. They were beyond being rude while they had the man who was perhaps the greatest singer/songwriter for God right in front of them, doing his best. That was a tough gig for Rich. He deserved so much more respect. God bless his precious soul.
Most churches have an expensive sound system, posh seats and kids are sent to children's church. But Rich did thinks differently, which is why he sang for several hundred people in a packed barn with no sound system. Playing in the fanciest new mega church without kids around wasn't his priority. Which is partly why he was such a Saint.
Thank you for sharing this. What a shame that there is so much background noise in this gem of a video. I found it a little disturbing that some people and children were milling about and talking while he was singing. Parents should have controlled their children and given him the respect he deserved. Just saying...
Confirmed Catholic? Have heard this, although his family has said he never mentioned it to them. Sin unto death that Bible mentions? Maybe he just wasn't meant to become Catholic so God took him Home.?
I have spoken personally with Rich's first cousin and she assured me that all of Rich's family, including his mother, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins etc. were well aware that Rich was becoming a Catholic. Some of them, like his mother and maternal uncles were very supportive of his decision, while others, like his youngest brother were very opposed to it. Rich was already living a Catholic life and was Catholic in his heart, so God did not prevent him from becoming Catholic! It was a decision that gave Rich much peace and joy!
My favorite modern-day Christian song.

You can tell, by the love they have...
God is Awesome.

I wish that He'd got a chance to do "My Deliverer" live
This is astonishing. One of my favorite Rich Mullins songs and a treasure to have on a home video. Thanks for sharing it with all of us.
This sounds pretty good. It's my all-time favorite Rich Mullins song. Thanks for uploading!

Thank you for sharing this video and your story.
I love to know the effect he has had on others. He has been a great help to my life.
Thank you.
This is so cool to see such a raw rough video of him sharing this song I wish he talked about the backstory of it
He mentioned to us that he was in the process of becoming Catholic, for whatever reasons. That seemed to upset a lot of people, but I don't think that appeasing people was high on his list. :) You make some great points, btw.

Hear my prayer 🙏 🙌 I am BLESSED and I want to be a blessing to You LORD of Heaven and Earth!
Bore our sorrows ~ knows our pain ~
I remember that...
It suprises me because as someone whose probably familiar with all his work, none of it can really come off as Rome.
I disagree. Rich was attracted to all things Catholic from a young age, and this is evident in much of his music, as well.
Can't see how your leading me~~•
Love it! Thank you. This is my all-time favorite as well! @theentrtnr

💚🧡🧡🧡
I was! front row. Haha :)
Cause he's Rich Mullins baby! ;-) Haha. Seriously though, I know he had many reasons. I don't have a link for you though, unfortunately.
Be sure to read Hard To Get review on my blog before you buy. Go to *travisreviews. com/hard-to-get-review/* Thanks. Richard.
Holy cow, get out! Wow about Rich coming through the front door.
We cannot see what's ahead~~~
was it a house church and was rich into house church?
were you at the home when he did this?
this is the kind of stuff that makes me just want to give up song writing.
why would he do that?
I wish Peter Jackson would do his Get Back magic on this recording.
They didn't see the blood that run with your sweat~~~

Read matthew 19:13 and 14
Did you ever know loneliness ~~~
Confirmed Catholic? Have heard this, although his family has said he never mentioned it to them. Sin unto death that Bible mentions? Maybe he just wasn't meant to become Catholic so God took him Home.?
Or maybe he WAS meant to become Catholic, and God was just waiting for Rich's final surrender, and when he gave it, God took him home!
