@rowdyjr2318The other issue is we had to use a lot of helium for all of the balloons. The helium was better used elsewhere, especially since there was a helium shortage and it is a non renewable resource.
Hey man, thank you, you just made my day! I was the creative director and more on this spot at the studio that developed it with B10. Thank you for noticing all the details! Cheers
Fun fact about the oval: it was left unpaved for decades as the university let students make desired pathways in the grass. Eventually OSU just paved roads over those student made pathways and that’s why it’s so intricate (including all the way up to 18th Ave)
This is also why a lot of students are furious with recent administrations’ attempts to enforce photogenicity of the grass by putting up random chains and ropes to block ways people like to cut through. OSU’s walkways were literally decided by how people wore paths in the grass until these clowns started resisting it.
same thing is happening at PSU (albeit not in the oval shape), where every time I go back there seems to be a new paved path on a place you used to see ultimate frisbee or touch football games.
My dad once pointed out that the oval was paved with bricks when he went there. They were replaced with cement after the students used them to pelt the national guard troops during the riots in 70.
The bridge in Minneapolis is actually the stone arch bridge, an old rail bridge that is now a beautiful pedestrian bridge with a great view of St Anthony Falls and the skyline, and a bridge i run across multiple times a week :)
I ran that bridge in early 2010's and 2009 for the River to River Ragnar relay. The first year the team was fast and got in the top 10 for the 12 man teams at about 8--10 We were mostly from Pierre (Pier) South Dakota. Then the next few years we were slower due to the fast guys being injured as one of them tried to stupidly keep up very hard training. That first year we did the race, person on an old steel 10 speed road racing Campagnolo or Japanese Sun bike in Tour De France Yellow, they nearly took me out on the bridge just lightly brushing my skin with the bikes metal pedal that the guy had old style clips for, he looked like he used the bike for super touring having front and back racks on the bike.
One thing you missed with OSU is behind the stadium is the oval, as central grassy area that signifies the border of north and south campus and is a great area to hang out and it has a bunch of paths through it to connect to a sidewalk to take you anywhere on campus. It is also home to the largest library on campus
As a Maryland alum, I have to agree, I think this is one of the best commercials ever. When I first saw this we were the newbies with Rutgers, and I thought to myself, what a wonderful welcome and what an awesome conference to be part of. Still feel that way almost ten years later. Thanks for running through each school and welcome to the new, newbies from the west coast!
as a PA girlie im obviously rooting for penn state but i go to GW and even tho im not big into college sports i like the fact that i can hop the train into maryland if i ever wanna get my big10 fix
Love this commercial as a Michigan fan and a geography nerd. Transitions are super smooth. I’m excited to see how they revamp it with the expansion teams. Will be interesting to see which direction they approach it. Maybe start in Seattle and work down to LA, then make that same transition over the mountains into Nebraska? Also, they need to add some things like the Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, and maybe another reference or two for MSU (as much as I hate them, they’re still a big part of this conference). Maybe something with the Breslin Center? They seemed to have been gipped. Could also add in some pieces of other nearby cities like they did for Detroit, Philly, DC, and NYC. Chicago and Minneapolis make more sense because NW/UM are there already, but lots of other great cities could use a reference here. Very surprised, for instance, that Lucas Oil isn’t on here at all, nothing for Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Des Moines, Omaha. Expand this sucker to a minute flat and give proper reference to actual B1G country, not just the east coast cities the B1G brass wants to be a part of.
Yeah, it's sad the Michigan and MSU don't get a little more, but I bet they didn't have a lot of space since the campuses are so close to each other. ps. I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, so FYI: "gypped" is a harmful word which perpetuates the stereotype of the Roma people being tricksters and thieves.
I thought both songs were fine. I was just glad there was a commercial that wasn't in your face this product is the best it just showed why it's great and added academic statues and buildings and what makes these colleges actually colleges and not a sports franchise. Also when it focuses on Wisconsin you actually hear the words "Jump Jump Jump!"
Thank you for making this video! As a Georgia and thus SEC guy who also loves watching all the conferences, this is my favorite college commercial as well. Thanks for breaking it down for us non-Big natives.
Also shoutout to the typography of the land. You see the Mississippi River, the Great Lakes, and gradual elevation of the Appalachian Mountains. Not to mention I love how they have the trees turning orange and red for fall, especially in the northeast.
I’m a bit surprised they didn’t include Indy or at least Lucas Oil Stadium, as its the conference’s favorite neutral site which frequently hosts championship events and its not much further from both Indiana and Purdue than most of the other depicted cities are from their respective campuses. Plus 50% would be a very conservative estimate of the percentage of the college educated population who got their degree from a Big Ten school. Not just Indiana and Purdue either; the others, particularly Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State are well represented too.
Awesome video! The Minnesota section (2:37) is actually missing a few things. 1. That is the stone arch bridge, a historical landmark that is now a pedestrian bridge crossing the Mississippi river near downtown Minneapolis. 2. That tall buildings are actually in 2 separate cities. The one of the left is the Wells Fargo Building (tallest building in St Paul) and the one of the right is the IDS Center (tallest building in Minneapolis) 3. The small rectangular building is actually the 3M headquarters, one of Minnesota's largest homegrown companies! Nice video!
As a die hard OSU fan I remember the first year this aired I was in 5th grade. Seeing this every Sat brings me back to the 2014 season and the natty OSU won that year.
Hi cole! Rutgers alum. The statue is actually a different one to the football stadium, it’s a statue made of pipes (the “Running Man”)in front of the Biomedical Engineering building on Busch campus.
Absolutely love this commercial (UWP alumn) especially Camp Randall jump around, of course!!! Thanks for the breakdown!! Get warm fuzzies from all the Easter eggs honoring each campus’s traditions!!!
Being from Jersey, I've always appreciated this commercial. Even though Rutgers has been a member for only 10 years, it gives the effect that they have been synonymous for a lot longer. Two of the clues that are referenced to Penn State (the Liberty Bell and Love Sign), can also be used to show how close Rutgers is to two major cities: New York and Philadelphia.
Wow, great job with this. I just have one thing to add. South of Rutgers... the Ferris Wheel and Roller Coaster..... is just a "general nod" to the "Jersey Shore" communities that start at Cape May and go up to about Asbury Park with 10 resort towns in between. Many have rides, as does Ocean City like you said.
You may still see some reference to the Rose Bowl with UCLA playing in the Big Ten next year with the Bruins playing their home games there. As well as Pauley Pavilion and Banners from Basketball. USC with the Coliseum and Downtown LA for both schools and possibly Smurf Stadium. Oregon I see of course Autzen Stadium, maybe of couple of Campus buildings, as well as drop of Downtown Portland Washington I could see Husky Stadium with Lake Union and Lake Washington, of course beautiful Downtown Seattle skyline that include Lumen Field and T Mobile Park
For the amusement park near Rutgers, the most logical guess from me is Six Flags Great Adventure, since it shows a thrill coaster and a Ferris wheel and Great Adventure is the closest park resembling that, Gillian’s Wonderland Pier only has a kiddie coaster
Morey's Piers could also be one since it is located in South Jersey, but it has to be Great Adventure. They must moved it down bc other Rutgers graphics lol
The statue in the picture is the statue at the head of The Scarlet Walk that honors the first college football game played on 11/6/1869 between Princton and Rutgers with Rutgers' winning 6-4.
I'm not even a Big10 fan I grew up in Florida and I am a fan of The U but, I agree this is awesome. By far the best commercial I've ever seen for any sport. I feel I should add I read a rumor online that ND and The U got AAU status to join the Big10 and my first thought was this commercial with Miami in it lol
*New commercial adds 5 seconds. We start out East with Rutgers and Maryland the rest of the commercial stays the same. Then after Nebraska, you fly up to Washington and Oregon, before flying down and sunset to see Usc and Ucla while the Rose Bowl stadium to end it, because at the end of the year, thats where we all want to be.*
On the MSU section, it appears there's a bridge which may symbolize the bridge the Spartans football team walks over to Spartan Stadium before each game when the team does "the walk" across campus. I'm surprised the video didn't feature The Rock, which has been a focal point for many moments in MSU's history, where students come together during times of joy, trouble, sorrow, triumph, and tribute. Anyway, I agree, this commercial for the B1G is one of my favorites and really showcases the conference in a way no other conference can. It's absolutely wonderful.
For Minnesota, I think that’s actually the Stone Arch Bridge. Very famous icon in Minneapolis that connects downtown (mill city specifically) with northeast, near the campus The 3rd Ave Bridge has fewer arches that are more shallow
Great commentary. Two quick thoughts: 1. Why wouldn’t that have put in the Iowa children’s hospital in this? Seems so iconic and a beautiful thing they do on game day. 2. For Rutgers, I believe the Ferris wheel is an ode to the Jersey shore boardwalk. In this case, I think it is the one from Seaside Heights
That statue depicted in the commercial actually isn’t referencing the first football game statue, it is a real and completely separate one. The statue shown is located outside of biomedical engineering building on Busch campus. It is a depiction of someone running and it is made up of pipes of varying size to give the illusion of motion when viewed. The fact that the referenced such a specific statue on campus to represent Rutgers School of Engineering is so awesome and just goes to show how immaculate this commercial is and that they did their research and didn’t BS any of the Universities. Go RU!!! And Go B1G!!!
goat commercial agreed and i hope they keep this general concept when usc and co are part of the b10 and as such make some changes to the easter eggs because as a uw student, the pink flamingos on bascom hill (where the abe statue is and is already shown in the commercial) would be such an easy add and stealing one become a huge part of being a student or the arch going into camp randall (love walking through this little area to get home)
As a Northwestern fan, Indiana fan, Wisconsin fan, and Oregon fan, every time I watch this ad it always gives me chills. I hope they add more stuff to this commercial next year when the pac 12 colleges join us, that would be really cool. However, I wonder if they’ll keep the rose bowl stadium as the start of the ad, as it is north of the campuses of USC and UCLA.
WOW! Never thought I would spend 8 minutes watching a breakdown of a commercial...and loving it! I also love this commercial, and have been looking forward to the new, revised version!
I definitely agree. The Big Ten always brings it with good conference commercials. I imagine the commercial will be a little longer with new teams added (personally, I am NOT a fan of the whole superconference thing, I worry we'll end up like the NFL with just two conferences, but the commercial will still be really cool I imagine).
Correction - as a Minnesotan, I can tell you that's actually the Stone Arch Bridge. It's a much older and more historically significant bridge that used to be used to bring milled flour in and out of Minneapolis, but now is a scenic pedestrian and bike path.
Fantastic breakdown, learned a lot about the different B1G schools. I'll definitely pay more attention to this commercial the next time it's on! Did you ever come across info on who actually produced the animation?
2:47 I am pretty sure that is the Stone Arch bridge. Fairly well known, the size of the arches is a lot closer, and the location and angle across the Mississippi is the same as the IRL Stone Arch.
This is definitely my favorite commercial. I assume they add the Hollywood sign for LA along with their stadiums. The world knows Nike for Eugene though that may be a marketing issue. Of course the Space Needle for Seattle. I'd love to see the White Out and fireworks added for PSU as an alum. PSU is central PA so Pittsburgh references can also be added.
15 Purdue alumni have been astronauts-more than even MIT. The only colleges with more alumni astronauts are the military academies: West Point, the Air Force Academy, and the Naval Academy. Fun Fact: Neil Armstrong carried a Purdue flag with him when he landed on the moon. I'm not a Purdue alum, tooting my own horn here. I'm actually an IU alum-an in-state rival. My heart will always be with IU, but I really respect Purdue and other schools in the conference. The Big 10 is an embarrassment of Riches.
I have a couple predictions for when they update the commercial for the Pac 12 teams, I think for USC and UCLA they add the Hollywood sign and the coliseum and Washington they add the Seattle Space Needle, I need to do more research on Oregon and really all the campuses themselves. I don’t know much about the West Coast campuses.
Washington could have the boats near the stadium. Microsoft campus as well as Boeing field (Everett). Ohhh Pike Place Market where they throw the fish … probably show the sign and a guy catching a fish (tourist thing to do but it’s recognizable)
I also the think the roller coaster for Rutgers could be a references to six flags great adventure but it could also be the New Jersey coast as a whole because it has many theme parks down the whole coast
I think the amusement park is in reference to wildwood with its roller coaster that famously sunk in hurricane sandy and the Ferris wheel that serves breakfast.
So glad you made this video. I thought I was alone in being glued to the TV whenever it comes on. It truly is a celebration of the greatest conference, both on and off the field. One little nit. You mentioned the Go Blue "flag" but glossed over that this is the M Club banner that the football players famously jump to touch as they run onto the field.
The amusement park in New Jersey is most likely either Morey's Piers in Wildwood or Great Adventure. Great Adventure makes way more sense, though it's actually like an hour or so from Rutgers itself
Actually Nebraska has five national titles, not four. The last year, 1997, is around the corner of the statue. I to also enjoy the commerical every time it is shown. I like the fact that Nebraska is first. John B.
I feel like most intros should be like this, so cool to show where the campus is and some of the major landmarks. Would love to see the big sky do something like this
I agree, this was a good ass commercial. Especially since this to me sum up the Big Ten. And I'm from Philly and both of my two sisters went to Penn State.
Ngl, when I saw this commercial this year with the OG song, I teared up a bit. Reminded me of the good ole days of watching the games with my friends and family. Happy that it’s back. Go Penn
Just to chime in for the statue at Rutgers, I believe it is the statue found outside the Biomedical Engineering building called The Rutgers Running Man, thanks.
I won't say which school I'm a fan of because this is about the B10 as a whole and I Love It! I thought I was weird cuz I ALWAYS stop to watch this whole commercial also. It is so unique and catchy. And I've been wondering how it will change next year also, I hope they keep the spirit and theme of this one. Thanks for making one of those videos that simply had to be made!
I’m from Madison, so great representation and nicely done for Wisconsin. I am also a student at Purdue and I love what they did for us. I am one of 8 student drivers of the Boilermaker Special so it’s cool to see that shown too.
i dont go to a sport oriented school (which im happy about- its not really my vibe) but seeing the big10 commercial makes me wish i actually did commit to either penn state or purdue (both schools i got into) my sister is applying to penn state this year and i know she would love the atmosphere! sad that as she gets in to college they rearrange everything
As someone who volunteers to fill and tie balloons at husker games, I’m so disappointed that they got rid of them
Yeah, it is a nice feeling to see y'all do that in Lincoln. I hope you guys decided to do that again!
Tbf, it's not worth the terrible effects of microplastics on our environment.
As someone who lives in Nebraska I'm glad we don't throw a bunch of eventual trash in the air.
@rowdyjr2318The other issue is we had to use a lot of helium for all of the balloons. The helium was better used elsewhere, especially since there was a helium shortage and it is a non renewable resource.
Releasing balloons is as environmentally friendly as throwing plastic shopping bags into a river or forest

It made my day everyday, thank you!

i cant get it out of my head... I CANT GET IT OUT.... GET IT OUT..
So you know my older brother Rob then?! Awesome!
As someone from the big 10, I’m disappointed that no other conference does this
Because the big ten is the best!!
As someone that doesn’t come from the Big 10 I’m disappointed that no other conference does this.
Sun Belt made a similar ad years ago.

Similar to some of the greenspace at Indiana. Students knew the shortest route was a straight line so eventually IU bricked over the dirt paths.
The bridge in Minneapolis is actually the stone arch bridge, an old rail bridge that is now a beautiful pedestrian bridge with a great view of St Anthony Falls and the skyline, and a bridge i run across multiple times a week :)
2:55 definitely the stone arch bridge
It is Stone Arch. Unfortunately, next year it is closing for 2 years for repair:(
I ran that bridge in early 2010's and 2009 for the River to River Ragnar relay. The first year the team was fast and got in the top 10 for the 12 man teams at about 8--10 We were mostly from Pierre (Pier) South Dakota. It even has sound easter eggs btw. for example when it gets to MSU the bell rings. and purdue has the train noise.
One thing you missed with OSU is behind the stadium is the oval, as central grassy area that signifies the border of north and south campus and is a great area to hang out and it has a bunch of paths through it to connect to a sidewalk to take you anywhere on campus. I love that commercial! Omg im so glad you agree. It always gave me the chills how cool it is
Gonna miss this commercial. End of an era.
Good news! They updated it with the west coast teams
I missed that Camp Randall jumped, and I absolutely love that it does.
Always loved this one! This makes me appreciate it even more.
This deserves way more views!
Outside of the military academies, Purdue has the more graduates become astronauts than any other institution. I think they've had 15 go into space.
As a big ten guy, passionate ohio state fan, and Southwest ohioan, I absolutely like the b1g map commercial.
I'm an SEC fan but this commercial is the absolute goat. We can't compete with it.
Update: they made a new one with the new teams
I'm so happy someone is talking about this commercial. I love it so much
This is definitely my favorite commercial.
The rollercoaster for Rutgers is probably a reference to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ, where King Da Ka is
Great video. I was wishing for someone to make this exact video last weekend
BRO THANK YOU FINALLY SOMEONE SPEAKING ABT IT this commercial is SO good
I have a couple predictions for when they update the commercial for the Pac 12 teams, I think for USC and UCLA they add the Hollywood sign and the coliseum and Washington they add the Seattle Space Needle, I need to do more research on Oregon and really all the campuses themselves. I don’t know much about the West Coast campuses.
oregons track and field center gotta be there.
@@frankschaefer8890 Phil Knight and Nike, too. The Duck.
They will probably update the other schools as well such as adding the children's hospital for Iowa
@@alyosha1974 the wave too.
That was seaside heights i think not wildwood
Your insight is spot on for revealing more to each university, the commercial does zip along.
It’s an amazing commercial. Really hope they keep it as is. It’s perfect.
This was needed. Fantastic job.
i love how as a collective we all love dis commercial
So glad you made this video. I thought I was alone in being glued to the TV whenever it comes on. It truly is a celebration of the greatest conference, both on and off the field.
One little nit. You mentioned the Go Blue "flag" but glossed over that this is the M Club banner that the football players famously jump to touch as they run onto the field.
B1G marketing department:
"Here's your fly over country!"
Yankee Stadium is important because of the Pinstripe Bowl which pits a B1G Team vs an ACC Team against one another.
My grandpa is from the graduating class that raised the money for the gateway to the future at Purdue. #BoilerUp
The amusement park in New Jersey is most likely either Morey's Piers in Wildwood or Great Adventure. Great Adventure makes way more sense, though it's actually like an hour or so from Rutgers itself
AS is NYC!
Good stuff! Obviously a nod to Saul Steinberg's March 29, 1976 "View of the World from Ninth Avenue" cover of The New Yorker.
There is a empty space right where Notre Dame is.
The Roller Coaster and Ferris Wheel are Casino Pier at Seaside Heights - but broadly represent The Jersey Shore
isn't the roller coaster still in the ocean????
Los Angeles is Big Ten country now.
This is an awesome breakdown. I love this commercial but never catch everything in it. Thank you so much.
A couple that were missed that I noticed (there might be more too...). 1. OSU Oval, 2. Liberty Bell, 3. LOVE Sign, 4. NASDAQ Building
5:18
Smh
Ngl, when I saw this commercial this year with the OG song, I teared up a bit. Reminded me of the good ole days of watching the games with my friends and family. Happy that it’s back. Go Penn
Just to chime in for the statue at Rutgers, I believe it is the statue found outside the Biomedical Engineering building called The Rutgers Running Man, thanks.
Thanks 4 the breakdown.
Minnesota Alum. The bridge is actually the stone arch bridge not the 3rd ave bridge.
I grew up with the director of this commercial, and to see the positive feedback is so incredibly cool!
The Northwestern field is for their women's field hockey team actually as it's their most successful team sport with multiple national titles
I’m from Madison, so great representation and nicely done for Wisconsin.
I am also a student at Purdue and I love what they did for us. I am one of 8 student drivers of the Boilermaker Special so it’s cool to see that shown too.
That statue on the rutgers campus is literally just a statue of a guy running made of pipes on campus outside the biomed engineering building
i dont go to a sport oriented school (which im happy about- its not really my vibe) but seeing the big10 commercial makes me wish i actually did commit to either penn state or purdue (both schools i got into)
my sister is applying to penn state this year and i know she would love the atmosphere! sad that as she gets in to college they rearrange everything
