Thanks for clicking! Hopefully none of the information was inaccurate, but don't take my word as fact. Obviously none of this is hate or slanderous towards Grimes (it absolutely is towards Elon though) as I still am a fan and actively consume her art. I tried for the most part to keep my opinion out of each entry but I didn't realize how much I sometimes ramble about myself oops. @@marsrsy Banks has made many inflammatory statements. I understand that. But they are usually said during mental episodes, that she regrets soon after they occur. And I also think there are countless valid things Azealia has said in critique of the music industry, racism, etc. but they get overlooked in favor of her worst moments. People don’t take into account the sabotage and industry abuse/racism that Azealia experienced during her come up that caused her to make several of these statements due to being betrayed and exploited by almost every person that she considered a friend or a peer. Grimes included. I won’t ever excuse the transphobic stuff because I am queer myself, but she has expressed remorse for those statements and thanked the queer community for supporting her throughout the years. She is a very nuanced person, and she has left a bad taste in the mouths of many, but I don’t think it’s fair how people just reduce her to this offensive caricature of an angry black woman when there seems to many layers to why she has behaved the way she has. And lately, she has been keeping her head down. She just came out in support of trans people and drag queens last month, in her classic hilarious and poetic Banks fashion but that didn’t get half as much attention as some of her more recent feuds have. I feel if there were more critical discussion about her persona and history that truly dissected the many facets Azealia has, instead of just writing her off as a crazy bigot, most would be able to understand that she’s just as complicated, misunderstood, and wildly talented as Grimes is and she deserves much more than she has been given.
@@marsrsy no offense but arca has so much emotional respect from everyone in the music space from fans to professionals and that little meth'd out squirrel or that wannabe techno harriet tubman, will never touch the artistry, craft, and emotion of the new artists coming out. Like in reality they walked so better artists could run. Like literally one track on an eartheater album is better than like most grimes songs, and has better rapping than most banks tracks. But these poeple still receive so much visibility because of nostalgia. The whole time they are NOW painfully mid and can't hold a candle to half of modern mainstream.

What you called the "rococos basilisk" is actually just what Grimes calls it. Its technically called Roku's Basilisk. Same type of story and lore, but Grimes made a joke and turned it rococo. In which rococo is ooooold school french dressage and aesthetics that homegirl is known to thoroughly enjoy.

This is so interesting, I got really into Grimes around 2012 when I discovered Visions but fell off around the time she started dating Musk. I never got too into her "lore" though, and you went so much mor in depth about the things I thought I knew about.
She's such a bizarre person and I have so many conflicting feelings about her, but the moment I heard Genesis playing in the background I felt so emotional and nostalgic, that was my FAVORITE song for so long.

I can still like her music but it made me not want to follow her as a person, and listening to her music for a long time made me just think about the fact that she's endorsing a very powerful man whose used his power to cause a lot of real harm.
This isn't a matter of "Oh I think her boyfriend has bad vibes", Musk isn't just some cringe loser., he's a cringe loser whose one of the richest people in the world who uses his power to harm other people.
It's fine if you can fully separate the art from the artist, there's nothing wrong with that, but I don't think there's anything wrong with my reaction either.

Great video, I learned a lot. I used to be a big grimes fan, but I fell out of it when she started going around with Musk. I had honestly never given a serious thought that she had a drug problem, but many of the video clips you included make an undeniable point, if you look at them without your "alien queen is so weird and I love her" glasses on.

Grimes does not support women anymore and has instead declared that she likes the patriarchy; insinuating that women could not have contributed to modern infrastructure and supply chains And has said that women get toxic. She has completely reversed her earlier career stance on sexism and the misogyny she came up against and repeatedly spoke out about due to her experience.
She continues to deliberately lie to fans in her defense of Elon Musk, Has made anti-Trans comments and is continuing with her elitist , out of touch statements and downward negative spiraling. Grimes to this day still interacts and is friends with NUSI; a known sexual predator of women. She still has not made a definitive statement regarding his horrific actions, but at this point, her continued actions speak louder than words.
Grimes and her current stances, quotes and problematic actions have far exceeded past the point of being defensible.
It's highly disappointing, considering her creative talent, but she has gone too far to be excusable and needs to be held accountable for her actions and words.
More people need to be aware of who she actually is and what she stands for. The "old Grimes" ( If she was ever real to begin with) is long since dead.
This "new" Grimes is the highly disappointing, pseudo-intellectual train wreck that we are left with.

Thank you for posting an in-depth video of one of my special interests 😂 when I was a Grimes fan back in the day no one ever posted videos about her because she was just an indie star. It's actually nice to see people deconstructing her and not putting her on a pedestal anymore. I'm honestly sick of that higher-than-thou avant garde/indie culture and she's a big part of that, even though it's not entirely her fault.
