I think u should upgrade ur crested gecko to a taller enclosure as she was climbing against the glass at 4:18. This means that she doesn't like it like that, she wants more space to climb, but it's your decision
Love your video's, I can see your channel being super popular in the future! First reptile update I have actually been able to watch without getting bored. Beautiful animals too! My collection so far consists of German Giant Bearded Dragon, and two Cresties, planning on getting an emperor scorpion sometime :D cheers!
I like your Gulf Coast Toad setup! I haven't heard of alot of people having them. I live in Texas too, I have 2 GCT, that I rescued from my pool about a year ago. I haven't been able to find alot of care info on them, right now they eat mealworms, and mealworm beetles. If you have any tips on their care please let me know! 😊
+Laena Bodovsky Right now I'm keeping mine in the same 10 gallon on coconut coir, but I should be switching her over to an organic potting soil/sand/sphagnum moss mix soon. She doesn't have an external heat source or a light right now, but the air temperature stays around 72-78 degrees. She still has the two hides you can see in the video, but she seems to be using them less as she gets adjusted to captivity. I've been finding her more and more under/around the water dish instead. She might be telling me the humidity is a tad too low... Since she's full-grown she seems to have a pretty slow metabolism, so at the moment she only eats 5-6 superworms or a couple dubia each week. Younger toads should eat every couple days. She's doing well in a very simple tank, but I'm actually considering switching her over to a bioactive setup soon - establishing some plants in her tank and/or throwing in some springtails/isopods to clean up her waste.
Good work mate keep it up! You should get a pair or trio of tokay gecko or chinese cave gecko, they can help you control your dubia's growing population. For inverts i recommend a.versicolor, p.imperator,p.cavimanus,b.emilia or s.subcrustalis. having a bunch of inverts and geckos can really help you control your dubia's population. you can also get a pacman frog a.k.a. zilla frog. My roach colony is stable now thanks to my inverts, geckos and my pacman frog.
Amazing! I am wondering are you going to keep these after you enter college or go into a related field of study? You have the ideal setup and its great up till college or relocating comes into the picture.
Depending on which college I go to, I could possibly bring one or two animals. Otherwise, I'll be looking for foster homes for the majority and rehome the rest to responsible keepers. I do plan to go into a zoological field though.
That's great! thanks for getting back. To me the hobbyist who get into exotics usually put a lot into it. Its not like people not knowing anymore now with computers and instant information. It raises a strong debate on hobbyist and breeding vs. endangered natural habitat and invasives issues as in Florida. Peace
The one at the Dell Diamond isn't too great (mostly just ball pythons and geckos), but the newer HERPS Austin is huge! Definitely heading back this summer.
+Shawnee Nelson Yes, she's 100% Hog Island. She's part of the Lloyd Lemke lineage (Some of the original imports which were bred by Lloyd for lighter colors). I bought her from a breeder named Dan Eby on the kingsnake.com classifieds. Here's a link: market.kingsnake.com/categorysearch.php?action=search&keywords=Hog&cat=8
Hey bud, I'm new to your channel and I was looking for a video on how you setup your enclosures. Any chance at a video like that. I'd like to set mine up like yours. With the "cleaning crew" and natural look. Thanks
I got that one from a friend who was moving away - I'm not actually sure what model it is! I know they definitely aren't in production anymore. You'd be most likely to find one by chance, or possibly at a reptile expo.
While the majority of pythons and most colubrids kill their prey through constriction, Boa constrictor imperator is the species' scientific name. You can shorten it to boa if you want, but don't bash me for using an alternate term.
Wait... that thumb.. Are you the guy who got his thumb eaten by a moray eel? I remember seeing the video on several TV shows, and he got his thumb replaced by one of his toes.
Maybe you need to feed your crested gecko dusted calcium crickets more often. Feeding crickets that is dusted in calcuim and is gut loaded to a crested gecko every week( you need to feed your crested gecko 2-5 crickets every 1-2 weeks). Feeding bugs to your crestie will ensure growth. But while your not feeding your crestie crickets feed it crested gecko diet.
nice reptile room but personally I think u should give ur reptiles a little bit more of room to Rome. I have a corn snake who is about 6months and in a 45 gallon tank. ☺
+Alex Dave If at all possible, ALWAYS go with CB (captive-bred) animals. They're used to humans and haven't been taken from the wild. I'd check out the kingsnake.com classifieds. Here's a link to the chameleon section: market.kingsnake.com/index.php?cat=52
To my knowledge, all true scorpions have venom. However, flat rock venom is hardly dangerous (similar to a bee sting). If you're looking for a scorpion I would go with an Asian forest scorpion or AFR. Neither are very defensive, even if they're venomous.
how old are you ??? and one question i give my bearded dragon greens and crickets and often meal worms but what is better for him meal worms ore crickets ?
+David McKenna If you're looking for a docile one, I'd definitely recommend a checkered. Most species are really skittish, but checkereds come in lots of morphs and don't seem to mind handling.
+AfroHerpkeeper I had a northern garter snake it was my first reptile and i was looking at a Cali red sided garter like yours but the are hard to find In PA
+Laena Bodovsky Yeah, you could do that. For earthworms, you'll want at least 4 inches of substrate, so the bottom stays damp enough to support them. For mealworms, be sure they have places to hide (bark, leaf litter, rocks) so your toads don't eat them immediately.
Somewhat - I use bags of activated bamboo charcoal to minimize the smell. Worst smells in the room come from the Russian tortoise and a rat, but with proper maintenance they don't smell much.
+Shxky Who'd you hear that from? Generally, 40 gallons is the recommended minimum, but some people keep them in larger or smaller setups. Some breeders actually keep them on a rack system like snakes or leopard geckos.
+AfroHerpkeeper sweet I've been wanting to get one for a while but they're pretty expensive. Also would a Savannah monitor need a bigger than a 40 gallon or can it be the same as you skink ?
+Shxky Savs get huge (6 feet+). You could keep a hatchling in a 40 gallon for about two years, but after that you'd need either a 6-8' cage or an outdoor enclosure. Unless you can provide that, I wouldn't get one. They can be hard to rehome.
A few are from joshsfrogs.com, but most I bought at hardware or garden stores. Just check to make sure you don't put poisonous plants in with herbivores, and wash all the dirt/fertilizer off roots before you plant them in a cage.
+Christian Sharpe Depends on a lot of things. Crested geckos are extremely easy to care for but can be flighty. Leopard geckos and bearded dragons are very personable, but need live food. Beardies also need strong UVB light and fresh greens every other day. If you can afford a blue tongue skink, I'd definitely recommend one. They eat almost anything (but you should still research their diet), don't require UVB, are generally friendly, and get to a good size. Always do your research before you make a decision! There are plenty of trustworthy sites online, but also plenty that don't get their facts straight. I would recommend reptilesmagazine.com and lllreptile.com for care guides.
+StevenGamet Great question. I've been meaning to clean out their tub for a long time now so I'll get around to making a video on it in the next couple days!
Ah, I want to get a beardie but im not into buying crickets every week, if i could breed my own feeder insects without too much work, it would be awesome!
What kind of worms? Superworms are too large, and mealworms are the right size but their exoskeletons can be hard to digest. Earthworms are a definite no. If possible, I'd go with soft-bodied insects like crickets or dubia roaches, dusted with calcium/vitamin powder.
Definitely wouldn't recommend it - pacman frogs are very enthusiastic eaters, and wet sand can get stuck to prey. If it managed to eat too much sand its digestive tract could get impacted and it could potentially die. For a pacman, I'd probably recommend coconut coir or organic potting soil.
+Jaylen Skeeter I have a (hopefully breeding) pair of day geckos in the same vivarium, a community aquarium, and a few communal tubs of invertebrates (millipedes, hissing roaches, etc). I never mix species though.
No, that's generally not safe. I would only try something like that with similar-sized animals with the same requirements. It's risky unless you really know what you're doing.
New reptile room tour coming on Friday, May 27th! Over a dozen new additions since December, and some great new setups!
Yeyyyyy
what can i do if the plants in the glass grow way to large?
Just keep them trimmed. Cutting off the bits that grow too long should keep it the right size, but eventually you might have to replace the plant.
kwstas perandou ya

You have a amazing collection! I subbed.

That black garter snake is beautiful
Some really nice specimens you have there! Jealous of how many you have haha.

+andone01red At 9:34 What type of enclosure is that ?? and what is its size ??
+Martin Legaspi What video? I don't know if it is this one...
andone01red nope nevermind i searched it on google its called exo terra faunarium flat home large enclosure
Martin Legaspi What are you talking about lol

Nice!
Omg I love your boas
really cool animals! is the austin herp show good?
The one at the Dell Diamond isn't too great (mostly just ball pythons and geckos), but the newer HERPS Austin is huge! Definitely heading back this summer.
that intro lol
I loved it XD
Where did you get your Hogg Island Boa? and is it full Hogg Island Boa? Thanks great video!
+Shawnee Nelson
Yes, she's 100% Hog Island. She's part of the Lloyd Lemke lineage (Some of the original imports which were bred by Lloyd for lighter colors). nice man
Hey I know this is a late question but where did you get the tank for the garter snake
I got that one from a friend who was moving away - I'm not actually sure what model it is! I know they definitely aren't in production anymore. You'd be most likely to find one by chance, or possibly at a reptile expo.
LMAO, he said "Boa constrictor". I'm going to start calling my snakes "python constrictor" and "corn snake constrictor" lololololol
While the majority of pythons and most colubrids kill their prey through constriction, Boa constrictor imperator is the species' scientific name. You can shorten it to boa if you want, but don't bash me for using an alternate term.
I think the "plastic carrier is an Exo Terra breeder box
Cuddles the Scorpion😂
I like this video 😀
yes it is 2 years i think the skink is the best
nice reptile room i just subbed.
Nice vid u earned urself a sub
Hey afroherpkeeper can you do a feeding video of the animals you have with you thanks
Wait... that thumb..
Are you the guy who got his thumb eaten by a moray eel? I remember seeing the video on several TV shows, and he got his thumb replaced by one of his toes.
Er... Definitely not. That would be a cool way to lose a thumb though.
What is wrong with is thumb?
+KamielJake cancer.
He is not lol
I have heard of that also
So when did you start liking reptiles and in Fabians what was your first reptile
i want those kinds of reptiles but im just too busy in school ... and i think only a few here in the philippines own those kinds of reptiles ... lol
What camera is that? I'll start recording soon. (sorry for my english btw)
The one I used for this video is just an iPhone 5, but my normal camera is a Nikon CoolPix AW100.

+Kenneth Reyes He's gotten a lot bigger since this video, don't worry! Feeding on 2-4 roaches a week along with fresh CGD every few days.
+AfroHerpkeeper Is the roaches high in calcium?
nice reptile room but personally I think u should give ur reptiles a little bit more of room to Rome. I have a corn snake who is about 6months and in a 45 gallon tank. ☺
Good video
good vid
i love the blood python how much did you get it for?
+Joshua Maher I got her from Fascination Herp for about $75 plus shipping
I love your vid and I followed you on instagram and i might be getting a jackson chameleon have any advice I

+Alex Dave

Tailless whip scorpion is great
Love it
how old are you ???
and one question i give my bearded dragon greens and crickets and often meal worms but what is better for him meal worms ore crickets ?
ok thanks i really needed it because my mother stresses alot about the crickets
Your garter snake is my beautiful that's hopefully my next reptile
+David McKenna

+AfroHerpkeeper I had a northern garter snake it was my first reptile and i was looking at a Cali red sided garter like yours but the are hard to find In PA
Do you think that I could put mealworms, or earthworms in their tararium, and they would grow and reproduce?
+Laena Bodovsky Yeah, you could do that. For earthworms, you'll want at least 4 inches of substrate, so the bottom stays damp enough to support them. For mealworms, be sure they have places to hide (bark, leaf litter, rocks) so your toads don't eat them immediately.
Check out facebook.com/groups/bioactivegroup/ for a bit more info...
African Giant Millipedes are hard to find because they are hard to breed and the USDA banned their import because they carried crop killing mites.
What plants did you you use in your crested gecko tank?
Dracaena, ficus, snake plant, pothos, spider plants, tillandsias, a fern, and a bromeliad. Lots of my plants come from joshsfrogs.com!
“50 sweaty horomonial band kids”
Do you ever get afraid they're gonna bite you.
+whoopee94 I've been bit plenty of times (mostly by lizards), but it rarely hurts.
Nice man
does your room smell serious question my dad says my room smells cause of my fish tanks but I do regular maintenance
Somewhat - I use bags of activated bamboo charcoal to minimize the smell. Worst smells in the room come from the Russian tortoise and a rat, but with proper maintenance they don't smell much.
At 9:34 What type of enclosure is that ?? and what is its size ??
+Martin Legaspi
Flat ExoTerra Faunarium (medium). Dimensions are 14"x8"x6"
AfroHerpkeeper ok
You can keep a blue tongue skink in a 40 gallon breeder? I've been told you cannot? Which is right?
+Shxky Who'd you hear that from? Generally, 40 gallons is the recommended minimum, but some people keep them in larger or smaller setups. Some breeders actually keep them on a rack system like snakes or leopard geckos.
+AfroHerpkeeper wow would something like a exo terra 38x18x18 work or no?
+Shxky Yeah, that should work perfectly fine. Changing around the furnishings every now and then can help keep it enriched.
They can be hard to rehome.
did you have a western banded gecko
I have a Texas banded gecko, but I purchased him after this video was made
PANCAKE IS SO CUTEE OM
does anybody have advice for keeping/feeding/handling leopard geckos
What school do you go to in Austin?
Nice set up but I have to tell you that is a female red ear slider.
where do you get your live plants?
A few are from joshsfrogs.com, but most I bought at hardware or garden stores. Just check to make sure you don't put poisonous plants in with herbivores, and wash all the dirt/fertilizer off roots before you plant them in a cage.
alright, thanks for responding. I'm the type to ask a lot of questions
what kind of lizard do you recommend for beginner
+Christian Sharpe Depends on a lot of things. Crested geckos are extremely easy to care for but can be flighty. Leopard geckos and bearded dragons are very personable, but need live food. Damn I bet his light bill is high AF
That has to be a high electricity bill...
wait isn't Cyprus mulch poisonous to all snakes?
+Logan Pry You're probably thinking of cedar. Most cedar species are highly toxic to reptiles, but cypress wood is perfectly safe.
AfroHerpkeeper sorry, about that I get those mixed up sometimes.
HI, How do u care for ur dubias/how do u breed them?
+StevenGamet Great question. I've been meaning to clean out their tub for a long time now so I'll get around to making a video on it in the next couple days!
Ah, I want to get a beardie but im not into buying crickets every week, if i could breed my own feeder insects without too much work, it would be awesome!
+StevenGamet Got the video up last night. Hope it helps!
:D
how big was ur toad tanks?
Both toads and the frog are all in standard 10 gallon tanks
I did same thing with turtle
Can u feed leopard geckoes on just worms
What kind of worms? Superworms are too large, and mealworms are the right size but their exoskeletons can be hard to digest. Earthworms are a definite no. If possible, I'd go with soft-bodied insects like crickets or dubia roaches, dusted with calcium/vitamin powder.
Can you use sand in a pacman frog tank
Definitely wouldn't recommend it - pacman frogs are very enthusiastic eaters, and wet sand can get stuck to prey. If it managed to eat too much sand its digestive tract could get impacted and it could potentially die. For a pacman, I'd probably recommend coconut coir or organic potting soil.
Wow
u need to get a southern alligator lizard
reptiles rock
do any of your animals share a cage
+Jaylen Skeeter I have a (hopefully breeding) pair of day geckos in the same vivarium, a community aquarium, and a few communal tubs of invertebrates (millipedes, hissing roaches, etc). I never mix species though.
I ment like a turtle and a frog together
No, that's generally not safe. I would only try something like that with similar-sized animals with the same requirements. It's risky unless you really know what you're doing.
Ok thanks for answering my questions
where do you work. you probably spend a lot of money on these animals
