I bought a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Sport S with the technology package. It was used with only 11k miles. I paid $26k plus TT&L and put $15k down and financed the rest. My credit score when I bought the Jeep was 846, so my interest rate was extremely low. My total interest over 60 months is about $1,314.00
I’m the type of person who keeps there vehicles a long time, and do all my repairs myself. I also own a 1990 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, with only 46k original miles. It’s my Sunday driver. I still have my 1985 Mazda RX7 GSL-SE and my 1987 Toyota 4Runner that I’m currently restoring.

    Hello, Wrangler Addiction,
    Good video thanks.
My husband and I just picked up our 2021 custom build Jeeps this last Friday.
For him a Gladiator unlimited sport S with factory *Max* towing.
(We learned that Max tow is only available on a few trim packages.) And it really bumps up the amount of weight it can haul! 4000 plus vs *Max tow of 7600 (tho we would not pull that much😬)
The Gladiator Sport S keeps the cost down vs other Max tow available trim packages.
We live in Minnesota so the cold weather package on both our Jeeps is really good for our nasty deep freeze winters🥶!
For me we turned in my sweet 2018 Wrangler unlimited Sport S for a 2021 custom build Wrangler unlimited Sport S *Altitude*.
The Altitude because I got factory towing (no Max tow available on this) it has beefier tires and a more all around rugged Jeep look & other nice up grades yet kept the cost down compared to a Sahara or other spendy trim packages.
We did not choose a Rubi because we don't do any serious or dangerous off roading. And a Rubicon is crazy expensive!!!
However, if we did do real rough off roading we would choose the 2021 Jeep Willy because if I understand correctly it gives you the off roading capabilities but not the high cost of the Rubicon. And the Jeep Willy is neat!

After replacing the $1600 electronic swaybar three times I gave up on it. I'm buying a sport too. I used to live in AZ when I did rock crawling with an 04 tj Rubicon. Sold it in 2013. But now i want a jeep again, and considering 2021 jl sport. I'm in Louisiana now with no rock crawling trails, so super low gearing isn't desired. My last jeep was in 38" tires, stretched wheelbase, 5.13 gears, manual with Rubicon tcase and arb lockers. but this time i want to keep 33"or less.
Figure a ecodiesel for the gobs of tq in a sport jl is what i want. Then later i can upgrade to Rubicon axles with 4.10 and lockers. I don't plan to increase suspension height except maybe mild sitting spacers. Pretty excited to get back into a jeep Wrangler.
Not sure i need the 4:1 tcase being mostly in a swamp land. That would be more if i was still in AZ for slow technical trails

I bought a 2 door sport s. For my type of off roading I have no need for lockers. Going to get either quick disconnect sway bar or the curry anti rock. Not sure yet. Down the line I'll upgrade the axles, get a nice lift, some good tires and I'll be good to go

  • @TheVikingSailor
    @TheVikingSailor 4 роки тому +2

I went with the Sport S Gladiator with the Max Tow package and saved about $15k over the Rubicon. The only thing I did not get that the Rubicon has is the Electronic sway bar disco and lockers. Personally I don't mind getting out and using the quick disconnects because I'm usually airing down anyway and I get more flex being disconnected over the Rubicons and the electronic discos. The lockers on the Rubicon are nice, but for $15k I saved I can take that money and do my own lockers, a nice lift, wheels, tires, and upgrades for less than the difference. I have yet to need lockers having a winch anyway, but with the Sport S I can build it the way I want it. The Gladiator max tow package comes with the same 4.10 gears as the Rubicon and the springs handle loads better so you don't get the squat in the rear with weight in the bed that you do with the Rubicon. A lot of people buy Rubicons and they never see dirt because it's a status symbol for a lot of people. Rubicons are awesome, but if you truly build out your Jeeps the Sport S is the best bang for your buck.

The deal with a Rubicon is that you can spend $200 on a tazer JL and lock the rear axle in 2hi, front axle in 4hi, unlock the swaybars anytime, up to 30mph. I paid $42k for my 2020 JLUR with manual trans (which I prefer), tow package, cold weather package, and steel bumpers.. they threw in the tailgate reinforcement for free.

very well explained, i thought long and hard about that exact decision. many of your reasons were why it made the decision even more difficult. i eventually decided on the Rubicon not at all for the creature comforts as i did not get heated seats or leather, but i did want the locking axles front and rear plus that transfer case. out of the box it was a beast. the main reason i went with the Rubicon was my age, i work on the Jeeps we have often, i was looking to minimize that.

I purchased a JLU Sport S. Agree! Rubicons are great, No doubt about it! Turn the key and go wheeling! BUT...I really can't stand decals, the watermelon/guava dash and the non functioning hood louvers (prefer the more traditional looking JL hood) but that's just me. With both models though I would be replacing wheels and tires, front and rear bumpers, suspension, lights, rocker guards, tire carrier, tow hooks, differentials, and gear ratio(s). I've opt for the Pro rock Dana 44 front with Eaton e-lockers F/R with 4:88 gearing. Rubi owners claim that they can recover most of the cost when they sell their stock goods. I just don't want to deal with that and someone like me WILL NOT buy any stock parts. Purchasing stock parts for a classic restoration is the only exception. I went with manual sway bar disconnects because of the problems that can occur with the ESD. I have a 6 speed manual V-6 because it connects me with my Jeep, again my preference. Truthfully though, I wish I had the patience to wait for the diesel powerplant. Ooooh lah..lah...the torque! Love the transfer case that the Rubi comes with but with 4:88's I can rock crawl just fine with the stock t-case. If it breaks? HELLO ATLAS! I've done the Rubicon countless times with my 84' CJ-7 with AMC 200/Dana 30 diffs' w/Detroit Lockers just fine, so the Jeeps today are very capable regardless of which model. Being a Professional certified mechanic the cost of the very mods that I've mentioned was below what a Rubicon would have cost me in stock form. In summary, My Sport S has all the goodies that I and most Jeepers yearn for. Bottom line whichever model you have, their all Jeeps and very capable! Peace out!
