Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs): Mechanism of Action, Mnemonic, Side Effects, Indications

- Angiotensin 2 receptor blocker (antagonist) pharmacology review. Mechanism of action vs ACE inhibitors, how ARBs work, side effects, example medications, indications, and contraindications explained.
Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) decrease the effects of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), similar to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.
Angiotensin II receptor blockers function to treat hypertension (raised blood pressure), heart failure, and renal disease through their effects on the kidneys and blood vessels.

Please upload your video soon. Its help me a lot in my study.Thank you
Glad the videos have been useful, and good luck on your studies!
Thank you for this comprehensive overview of Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs). Your video covers the mechanism of action, mnemonic, indications, side effects, and contraindications in a clear and organized manner.
The mnemonic "ARB" (Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers) is an effective memory aid, simplifying the main effects of ARBs on systemic vascular resistance and blood volume. The breakdown of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and its physiological implications on blood pressure regulation is well-explained, providing a solid foundation for understanding ARB action.
Your detailed discussion on indications, especially in hypertension, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and renal protection in conditions like diabetic nephropathy, offers valuable clinical insights. The comparison with ACE inhibitors, emphasizing the lower incidence of cough and angioedema with ARBs, is particularly useful for clinicians.
The side effects mnemonic "LOSARTAN" is an effective tool for recalling low blood pressure, other mild symptoms, swelling, allergic reactions, raised potassium, teratogenic effects, acute kidney injury, and nasal congestion. This mnemonic aids in quick recall and reinforces the importance of monitoring patients for these potential adverse effects.
Finally, the discussion on contraindications, including caution with hypotension, potential cross-reactivity with ACE inhibitors in cases of angioedema, hyperkalemia risk, teratogenicity, and renal considerations, provides a well-rounded understanding of when to be cautious or avoid ARBs.
Overall, your video serves as a valuable resource for both students and healthcare professionals, offering a thorough understanding of ARBs in a digestible format. Keep up the excellent work in making complex medical topics easy to comprehend.
Hi just one comment, its not that obvious anymore that patients who had angioedema after ACEIs are not able to take ARBs. There is more to it. See the uptodate for example.

Appreciate you watching! 🙏🏻
This is the best easy-to-use, easy-to- understand, easy-to-internalize teaching, I love love it... U have saved me a 24hr work 🙌👌👌👌👌 thank you
This means a lot! 🙏🏻 Glad this could save you a lot of time studying! 👏
Sir, Losartan has (HN) Hydrazoic Acid in it.Same as the ACE inhibitors
SIR,(HN) Hydrazoic Acid,elevated Bradykinin!
(HN) Hydrazoic Acid -Hydrogen azide elevates Bradykinin and Bradykinin levels chronically cause Acute Renal Failure.
But if the Bradykinin is elevated from the ACE inhibitors, and creates chronic inflammation, you will still have high blood pressure from the Cortisol levels right?
Now,if Magnesium is involved with Vasodilation 🤔
Why don't we just use Magnesium with no side effects?
Oh yeah, theres no money it!
So coffee activates the Aldosterone and excrete potassium out of the kidneys and will create (PE) Peripheral Edema?
In NP school/clinical. Suck at Pharm. really happy I came across your channel and website. First used for antibiotics. Your mnemonics are easy and make since. Thank you so much.
Happy to hear the pharmacology videos and website are helping! Wishing you the best in NP school, and thank you for the support. Feel free to share EZmed with any classmates/colleagues who might benefit!
Want to try an ARB, dont like amlodipine that gives me ED and makes my ankles swell.
So let's say 145 over 90 , the kidneys likes this pressure?
So higher the blood pressure, the higher the GFR?
Super bro
You made pharmacology easier
👍👍
Appreciate it! 🙏🏻 Mission accomplished, making pharm easy is the goal! 👍
Ty
And please upload other pharmacology videos
And make them a proper playlist
There will be more pharmacology videos in the future! Subscribe to not miss them! Thanks for watching!
What happened when you take Amlodipine +Olmesartan ,and have a Renal deficiency stage 2. And 79 years old
The moment I played this video I have an easy grasp. finally, I understand it..
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING US A EASY WAY TO UNDERSTAND PHARMACOLOGY ♥️MUCH BLESSINGS FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY 🙏🏽
Pharmacology made easy is the best type of pharmacology! ✅
Please tell how to wean off this medicine
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSTRUCTIVE AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND WORK. BRAVO, SIR !!!!
Happy to hear it was easy to understand! Best of luck to you! 🙏🏻
Wonderful teaching of the pharmacology of Treatment of Blood Pressure
Thank you! 🙏🏻 Glad you liked it!
Wonderful, including the physics of high blood pressure
Agree, understanding the physiology helps make pharmacology easier 👍
Can do some video about Nutririon?
Thanks for the suggestion 👍
Valuable lecture
Awesome! 👏 Glad you liked it!
Beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Very useful 👌
Great! 👍
perfect - keep them coming!!
Thanks and will do! Lots more to come! 👍
