  • The Devon Express (Cardiff Central-Plymouth-return) ran by Saphos Trains and hauled by 46100 Royal Scot and 70000 Britannia, filmed at Beam Bridge, Whiteball, Dainton, Rattery, Hemerdon and Stoke Cannon. The very last location is my personal favorite filming location as its by the remains of Stoke Canon railway station that closed in 1960 and by the former junction to the Exe Valley line that later closed in 1964.

Excellent coverage as always Ryan, the Fireman on the 'Brit' needed to ease off as she was wasting a lot of steam....Bob

Hmmm...yes that fireman on the Brit does raise a big question mark with the handling of the boiler pressure. Could well be a rookie or newbie

Brilliant video. Why have the diesel on the back with all that power on the front? More chance of the diesel failing than either of the steam locos anyway. Lol

Its due to insurance purposes, incase the train breaks down or might need a shove to reduce fire risk which thankfully didn't happen. Plus to shove to increase speed should the steamer or steamers get delayed as most modern steam operated TOCs are not willing to pay fines for delays they didn't cause.
