I had my ride on Friday last and was on that train that came to a stop. Good bark on her, well done everyone for bringing back a great loco.

Yes, she's barking her heart away there.

Not happy about it at the time, and should have repositioned the camera on the other side of the bridge for better shot going away.

@@thepicoproductions Some videos make me think if some people use two cameras on the both sides of a bridge.

A great video and incredible Loco! She was sitting at East Grinstead and sounded like she was breathing gently away waiting for return trip! I was surprised to see myself on observation car coming into Horsted Keynes too!!🙂🙂🙂

Nice to see. Atlantics are rare indeed.

Beautiful, Beachy Head is loud as hell, love that. I don't know if and for how long Henry Oakley has ran in preservation, but I'm sure no one has heard the sound of an LNER or SR Atlantic since the early 60s. If I hear the Atlantic and close my eyes I imagine much larger engines like the South African 15CA 4-8-2 or German Reichsbahn Baureihe 41 Reko 2-8-2 which do sound very similar with that sharp yet bassy sound.

She sounds amazing I was there on the Friday. As she is pretty much a brand new loco I would love it if they gave her a real heavy test would sound amazing

I started train spotting from the over footbridge between Norbury and Thornton Heath about late 56 to early 57. I only had the Ian Allen Electric Train pamphlet so the steamers were written down the back. I got my first full Ian Allen Combined volume in 59 and transferred the numbers to the book. Sadly Beachy Head was not one of them. I do remember East Croydon Station goods yard in the late 50's had E6 or C2X working then when they went K's were a common sight. In some ways it's a shame they are concentrating on the Adams Radial I would much prefer them to do a K 2-6-0.

Similar period for me Geoffrey, but it was the wall by the signal box at Fratton. We were not allowed on the stairs down to the platform and the windows on the footbridge were too dirty to see out! 32424 was a frequent visit to Fratton, but I have no recollection of seeing her or the other Atlantics withdrawn in 1956. I do remember seeing a 'Remembrance', rebuilt of course as a N15x. I do remember the K 2-6-0s and the Bluebell Railway had hoped to purchase one. But could not afford to do so since at that time all money had to be channelled into the purchase of the line. This was achieved in 1968, with final payment in 1973.

Will beachey head ever be on tour for the mainline?

Some excellent footage there, just suffered a bit at the end when entering the station.
Shame more of the Bluebell isn't double tracked, it would be so much better if you had trains passing by.
What is the gradient out of Sharpthorne tunnel ? The marker was just at the wrong angle to see.

The tunnel is 1in 75 and eases out to over 200 just at the end. A gradient profile of the whole line is easy to find on the Internet.

Think its about time uk considered re opening a lot of the small branch lines to relieve the traffic congestion. Small electric trains run by windmills with wheelchair access . Minimum fare no expensive tickets. No drivers ?? Easy autonomous . Then weekends the geeky nutty train types can run a vile smelly cho cho . But track maintained by local councils or something. Says a man into his classic jaag.
