I truly do believe head injuries & his crazy dad situation took a toll on this man he just couldn’t cope with hell I don’t think many people could cope with it
This had a massive negative impact on NASCAR heading into the 2010s. You can’t tell me his 2009 and 2010 seasons didn’t have Junior fans questioning watching NASCAR on Sundays. From 2005 to 2011, this man only won 3 Cup races. 3 wins out of a possible 252 races. In that same period, Jimmie Johnson won 42 races.
I was a Dale and Carl fan growing up. I missed Jr's win in 2012 because I was leaving my grandparents' house as the race wound down. My grandmother called my mom to tell me he had won and I was so happy. I didn't see him win another race live until the 2015 Talladega spring race, fhe day after I turned 11.
Such an awesome story. I’ve never been to a race but grew up adoring Kasey Kahne, I was in the 5th grade when he broke his 2 year winless streak. After 2010, I was convinced he’d never win again, those triumphant days that feel like they’ll never come are extra special
I stand/ stand behind Jr no matter how he finished. He is his own person & driver. Idc he never won a championship, the fact he never quit makes him a champion in my eyes.
Well, it's no surprise that his worst years were the COT era. Dale Jr. has gone on record on his podcast that he hated driving the COT and he even said that he hated how the splitter dragged the ground and how much of an issue it was to set up. His two victories in that span of time came at Michigan, one in 2008 and then in 2012 when he broke that long winless streak. Thankfully he would enjoy some success two years later in the Gen Six era. The cars were much sportier, and the splitter was less pronounced.
Wait, someone finally found out he mainly won in DEI cars that were so fast even Michael Waltrip won in them? His winning percentage in Hendrick cars was poor, at best.
That rookie season was stacked. Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Stacy Compton, Dave Blaney, and Mike Bliss. All of those guys have multiple wins in NASCAR's top series
I started watching nascar in 2012. When he won at Michigan (the race was on my birthday btw) i didn't understand why it was such a big deal for him to win. I was glad to see his resurgence in 2014 as well.
What else is there to say? Everyone knows he got screwed by the chase/playoffs multiple times. Without the gimmicky points systems he’s probably a 7 time champion and viewed as undoubtedly the goat.
Dale Jr. never should’ve gone to Hendrick Motorsports… I thought he was going to Joe Gibbs Racing to drive the #18, but it’s pretty obvious now that he should’ve gone to RCR and driven the #3 car or #33 car, or the #88.
I wore my recliner out by closing it so quickly so often to jump up and yell at the tv whenever Jr screwed us with his childish tantrums... Jr knew how to grind the fans' gears, but finally, towards the end of his career, he started showing his fans a passionate, more mature Jr. Although I love the 8, I will say the 88 with a flaming out driver behind the wheel was my most memorable cheerleader moment. I never wanted to see a driver accomplish so much in so little time and wanted him to keep racing, butt his time was honestly perfect. He didn't go out with anything for me to complain about. Fast forward to 2024 and I again have the same feelings about Kyle Busch, but with KFB I don't want him to find his talent again, but instead get back to his dominant career stats. Unlike Jr., KFB is a fuckin goat and I don't want to see him go out like this. Although I don't think he will. Kyle has so much left in the tank
All while his Hendrick teammates finished 1-2-3 in the final standings in 2009.

2:10. 3 wins in the span of a month and still finished runner up for rookie of the year. Holy shit.
I think he fell off later in the year.

He only had five top 10s the whole year. Matt also won a race and was way more consistent.
I believe around this time he started to get into Iracing.

in 2009 his teammates finished 1 2 3 in the standings meanwhile he was like 20th
any other driver would have been sacked after that
Even worse. He was 25th. And the next year he was 21st. Once again well behind his teammates.
