He is clearly a deep thinker. The fact that he would spend time asking himself who he was beyond the surface level facts of himself at 9 or 10 is pretty amazing. That's a pretty good start on the path to enlightenment that sounds like it came hard wired.
@@D.R.590 I listens s couple times after I read you two’s comments. I think he might have said 9, 10 years old because he referenced being a kid asking those questions. Either way he’s such a cool guy, friendly, relaxed.
He was engaging in a spontaneous sensory deprivation experiment as a kid. What a trip. This guy does have a pretty active spiritual core whether he's aware of it or not.
Such a handsome and charismatic man. I've loved him in everything he'd done. Even when he plays a small role, you definitely notice him, he steals every scene.
Ali is a magnificent human even before being a magnificent actor! Rarely does an interview makes me think about my own existence & who I am, but this one I'm saving. And sharing with my son & my best friend.
Great insight and a wonderfully thoughtful answer by Mahershala. Also, if Viggo didn’t name the crow “Edgar Allan Crow” I think that’d be a missed opportunity 😂
The question of who am I especially as he practices in the mirror is a real profound spiritual practice created by a respected ancient East Indian teacher Sri Ramana Maharishi. Very powerful.
No, the question of who i am dates back to Ancient Greece as ancient philosophers would say “know thy self” (which is actually written on the doors to the temple of Apollo and is actually attributed to him which is pretty much the same concept. Mehershalla is muslim and there is a lot of wisdom and teachings of this sort. I would highly doubt him looking to Hindu teachings for inspiration.
The reason this man was the IDEAL choice for Green Book was his capacity to go far deeper than is comfortable for most people in his self-analysis. He can deconstruct and reconstruct himself into whoever he needs to be and it's such a rare skill.
Green Book catches a lot of shit, but it's a well intentioned film. It may be simplistic and miss a modern perspective, but Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen are both great, and you can tell Mahershala Ali what to lengths to make that a well rounded character
You came close. San Lorenzo is from Buenos Aires and one of the team's nicknames is "Cuervos". He's a huge fan from the time he lived in Argentina as a kid and I think he even wore their colors to an Oscar ceremony once.
So when are they making the movie “The Crow Whisperer” starring Viggo and Mahershala! Sounds interesting to me. These two actors have great chemistry, as shown in “Green Book”. Recommend you watch it.
I came into this with no context whatsoever nor any idea about what they're discussing and thought I'd briefly slipped into an alternative universe where cloning was becoming pretty commonplace 😅
Holy crap what a good story. And just like...both of these guys Vigo and Mahershala are amazing btw. Fricking awesome people and amazing actors. But just to come with a story like that and speak so fondly about a fellow actor...man i'd love to meet just one of them. Or both if possible😅 But okey, I am from denmark so I might have chance of meeting Vigo at some point😅 Much love to you Mr. Mahershala👏🙏❤love your work and Happy New Year to all, both on the show and here on YT🥂🥳🎆
We spend the first 13.8 or so billion years essentially 'dead', then we have this brief blink of an existence we call life, only to return to the ground state of nothingness again. Really, life is the anomaly that should be upsetting people, not the return to normality.
Yeah...but what is the best use of your time? We are taught to go to jobs everyday, and work for other people, to serve other people, and yet is this the BEST use of our potential? If we all made the most of our lives, we might not want to live the lives that are prescribed to us. Just sayin'.
What an amazing human. It gave me chills just to hear his cadence of speech, so kind and heartfelt.
Jes you said it! Its like ur universal feelins
He is clearly a deep thinker. The fact that he would spend time asking himself who he was beyond the surface level facts of himself at 9 or 10 is pretty amazing. That's a pretty good start on the path to enlightenment that sounds like it came hard wired.
Definitely agree. I do think he said he was 19 though. He kinda stuttered for a sec. But still, even at 19 to be that self aware is awesome.

Mahershala is officially one of my favorite human beings.
I love how comfortable he is with himself
There is such a quiet strength in him! Love it and him!
Very that
He seems to be at peace with himself and thats beautiful.
Such a handsome and charismatic man. I've loved him in everything he'd done. Even when he plays a small role, you definitely notice him, he steals every scene.
. Good God, I love this guy! What a talented actor! It's such a joy to see him in action! ❤️
Stephen: "I just wanted a nice fluffy answer"
Mahershala: "I want my soul to crush the core of reality"
Agree!!!! Great quote.
Pretty sure Stephen wanted and expected a deep answer
M. Ali is such a nice, fascinating and lovable human being! It was just comfy and relaxing to listen to that interview.
Ali is a magnificent human even before being a magnificent actor! Rarely does an interview makes me think about my own existence & who I am, but this one I'm saving. And sharing with my son & my best friend.
I can’t wait see the film Blade.
I can't wait to see Blade starring Mahershala. I like Blade movies. Mahershala is a well spoken man and very calm.
I love this man: great actor, intelligent, compassionate and handsome!
Mahershala Ali's interview sounds like a TED Talk video. Wow.
What a chill guy.
He is such a Sweetheart, very talented and gifted FINE young man
Gotta love this brilliant artist!❤️
Talented class act. Love him!
so charismatic!
Wow he seems like such a lovely person
0:40 Mahershala Ali is a very, very profound thinker. Especially for a 9-10 year old.
The bits about Viggo is hilarious 😂
I only recently started watching House of Cards.
He's my favorite character so far. He seems to be beautiful inside and out. 🥰
Very well said!!!!
Good words of advice. Make the best of your life while you are here. Thank you.
"you're assuming they'll be in pain...." I felt that so much.😢
I wonder how he'll play Blade, since Blade is so damn serious all the time and Mahershala has such a beautiful smile.
Great insight and a wonderfully thoughtful answer by Mahershala.

Mahershala is Muslim. As a child he wouldn't have known of that it just came to him naturally 🙄

Amen Sir !
Normally Stephen only spends about 7-9 minutes with a guest. With Mahershala Ali he spent about 14 minutes.
This is a beautiful human. Deep, humble, intelligent, respectful. Mahershala Ali, you're one of my favorite people on earth
damn this dude is great
“We had a funeral for a bird.”
- Mahershala Ali
I was alway a big fan of Mahershala Ali since seeing him in 4400.
Mahershala Ali is fucking great. More at 11.
Aragorn: One does not simply _walk_ to work holding a crow!
His smile😍

Viggo's nickname in Argentina is "cuervo"( crow). I think it's related to the football team he support (San Lorenzo, in Córdoba)

I actually did when I was 16! And lived a almost out of body experience. Totally sober of course. It is really something to try.
I always kinda liked this dude. But now I love him
Dude is amazing.
I’m surprised Stephen didn’t say that Viggo had spent too much time with Elrond instead of being a wizard.
Wow, I can only hope to someday be as brave as he was at the age 9.
What wonderfully wise advice.
I came into this with no context whatsoever nor any idea about what they're discussing and thought I'd briefly slipped into an alternative universe where cloning was becoming pretty commonplace 😅
What a beautiful black talented man, love him!
caw! just wanted to say that in honor of our fallen crow comrade
he wasnt mistaken..the crow was in the credits.. Larry the Crow😄
Holy crap what a good story. And just like...both of these guys Vigo and Mahershala are amazing btw. Fricking awesome people and amazing actors.

Much love to you Mr. Mahershala👏🙏❤love your work and Happy New Year to all, both on the show and here on YT🥂🥳🎆
Least now I know how to say his name right.
♥️♥️
maybe Viggo's relationship with crows are very related that he is a "Cuervo" [San Lorenzo supporter]
I do it 👌
👏
This interview should have led into the Questionnert.
It was the double blink after his answer about the best use of his time for me….
Where can i buy Ali’s dress ?
I NEED IT
He's from Hayward, California. Mount Eden High School 1992

"Who is you, Chiron?"
Shouldn’t the movie be called The Crow’s Song?:)
👏🏿👏🏾👏🏽👏🏿👏🏾 🖖🏿
I’m just a mouse 🐁, hiding from the hawks, in the house of the raven 🧭
I wonder how many people will now look for the crow’s name at the end of the film…
Pobre cuervo...
Because so many years of my life have been stolen by illness, I would take it.
So basically he's been Blade since he was nine
Why does this movie sound similar to the tv show Paul Rudd did, Living with Yourself
Basically Viggo is a banana. hahahaha
Old spirit
Yeah...but what is the best use of your time?
We are taught to go to jobs everyday, and work for other people, to serve other people, and yet is this the BEST use of our potential?
If we all made the most of our lives, we might not want to live the lives that are prescribed to us.

👨👩👧👦
Is anyone else getting killed by these Venom ads? Don't even want to see it anymore!
PS i loved Mahershala in Benjamin Button
You have Mahershala Ali in front of you and… ask him to be a Vigo Mortensen proxy. What a waste and disappointment.
You can't be serious. They literally talked for 14 minutes and they spend the last 2 minutes of the interview talking about Viggo.
I'm a fan of his, but "We all have the potential to be our best self" is either a truism or necessarily false.
Is he the new “blade” ?? Or am I racist?
he talks like Obama
When his character on Luke Cage died, I never recovered.
