  • It's time for some more stuff from the Promised Land tour. This show has both awesome video and audio quality. It was taped by a guy who goes by the name of 'rcsguy664' - and he did a good job of documenting this show! Other camera angles exist, so maybe they too will surface one day.
    This show is complete, with the audio quality having a very clear sound, and the video showing the band members as well as having good focus on the video screens from time to time.
    As for the show itself: Queensrÿche plays their entire Promised Land album in full length, albeit not in order. They play a handful of songs from all of Operation: Mindcrime as well as Empire, and also throw in some old classics in the mix. The band also ramped up the theatrical side of the show since the Empire tour, and the show now features more video production, as well stage actors and even a bar on the stage! Being captured on video, it does the show justice, as such things would have otherwise been missed on audio-only bootlegs.
    As far as the songs goes: Some of the older material like Neue Regel and NM 156 are sung in a lower key, and Geoff avoids some high notes on some of the other older songs as well. There are no bad versions of songs on this show, only some different versions ;)
    Geoff's voice sounds really raspy and rough compared to previous (and future) years, which is a result of smoking (and perhaps bad vocal habits and other things?), so his tone is different, but he still sings well on this show, and the rest of the band are playing equally well - as if the norm for Queensrÿche.
    Overall it's a great show, and deserves to be WATCHED. It's an experience in itself, and it's one of the last shows on this mega-tour before Queensrÿche's mega-tour days were coming to an end.
    Enjoy!

    Great video. I was one of the guys in the bar scene standing next to Geoff. A friend of mine (the other guy) won a contest.

      That's cool! It must have been surreal to be on stage with the band during the actual concert itself!? :D

    Miss this band when they were all together. Chris really made them perfectionist. Something that was lost after he left. Scott is such an amazing drummer! They should reunite now that Tate seems to be singing better and they should team up again with James “Jimbo” Barton. I think the way he engineered this album was amazing. I don’t think Queensrÿche ever came close to this production again since than. I’m sad Chris DeGarmo at this age and time doesn’t want to revisit what was a masterful group and something he helped create. Before it’s too late and they are too old! In the words of Bruce Dickinson.... “ya never miss it until it’s gone away” and some day Chris might look back and be crushed he jumped ship, or at least didn’t jump back on when he had the opportunity.

    • @OpheliaDarkling
      @OpheliaDarkling 2 роки тому +2

      I was so upset when Chris left but things become clearer with time and I realize 100% he absolutely did the right thing by leaving. Would love to see them all get together 'one more time around' but Chris is so at peace and judging from all the ugliness that ensued after he left, that should tell you exactly what kind of monster of negativity he does not care to revisit. I'm just happy I got to see this performance live, that we have all the old records to enjoy and so glad Chris walked away like a fucking Buddha, is healthy, and living his best life outside the insidious music business. I'm sure there's plenty he misses but more that he doesn't miss.

    This is so amazing! I love Promised Land and regret so much that I missed this tour. This is genius in my opinion and every piece of footage I've seen from this tour is just further proof. Geoff seemed to be exorcising something from his soul in these shows and the video footage on the screens is profound and very powerful.

      I believe it was a cathartic experience for sure. It was as close to a Broadway production any rock band from our era has gotten. Sadly, alcoholism isn't something Geoff's managed to conquer but the moment of clarity and the revelatory nature of this song, performance and album are at the very least therapeutic in a sense for those with open minds and ears. Those quick to criticize this record/performance I think are overwhelmed by the reality of what this song is trying to say. It certainly speaks volumes of the frustration & disappointment following fleeting success that ultimately resulted in the fracturing of this great band. I'm just glad I witnessed them on this tour before Chris' departure & their inevitable descent. This whole album and performance was and remains cathartic af for me.

    This shows the incredible soul and ability of this band. The ideas, concepts and versatility of this line up has not been matched since and never will. I think it also tells that such creativity has a price and the band and it`s fans had to pay for the incredible music that is ever unmatched and sadly missed.

    June 25 (IIRC) 1995. Atlanta GA. Lakewood Amphitheater. Front row, center. Great show. Promised Land was an acquired taste (but a great album) that was a huge disappointment (to me) when the album came out.
    THEN, I went to the concert and it changed my perception. Great show.
    Parked behind the stage before the show and listened to the sound check.
    Geoff was in top form at the Atlanta show. No raspiness or anything.

      It was great! This is out of context. They played a lot of songs in the normal stage before this. Then the video played and the crew set up that little jazz band type lounge. They played like 3 songs this way then it was removed and they went back to the normal stage.
      But the coolest part about it was all the people on stage were contest winners from local radio stations. 👍

    • @OpheliaDarkling
      @OpheliaDarkling 2 роки тому

      It was an honest and cathartic record and performance. If that's "depressing" then you're quite jaded and dismissive. Fleeting success, egos and substance abuse will inevitably take it's toll in a business built upon high turnover, especially in the grunge era. This album did really well considering it was right after Empire & during grunge fallout. They were always experimental & collaborative especially with Chris at the helm so this was in completely in their "element" especially given the context. Considering Chris left after their next album, it all fits, so in that sense it was sad, but an honest and moving record. Sorry you didn't see it that way.
