Katla Ice Cave | Iceland's Year-round Tour
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 бер 2022
- Visit the inside of an ice cave with me on this tour with Troll Expeditions! The tour started from Vík where we boarded a Super Jeep. The glaciers are constantly changing and the location of ice caves changes every year so getting to these locations requires the expertise of a guide. The ice cave is located in the Kötlujökull Glacier which is an outlet of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Underneath the glacier is the powerful volcano Katla.

We went back to Iceland in february and stopped at the tourist info shop at Reykjavik and he advised against booking with Troll. So I was a bit surprised to see this video. Another note to add to this video is that depending on the weather and what they want to show, you will see a complete different ice cave. These tour guides make a lot of promises with impressive pictures on their site which sometimes is not the case. So for anyone wanting to book this: please do so at a small local tour guide.
Planning a trip for this August. I'm so glad it's a year round thing!
Great video, Jeannie. I’m very happy to see you putting out these videos a little more regularly as I’ve lived vicariously through them since I found the channel a few years ago. Your enthusiasm is always so contagious. My son and I were planning a trip in 2020 and we all know what happened with that. 2021 looked promising until I had a hell of a time obtaining a passport and had to postpone the trip again. So, now it looks like October we’re finally making it over there. The information you give in your videos have been so helpful in planning this trip. Just wanted to say thanks for what you do.
We plan to visit Iceland in September, so I’ve found your channel in time to help our planning! Also, thank you for sharing your humility and presenting a genuine, human experience. I’m glad I’m not the only one that can get emotional when in the magnificence nature presents! And, I imagine I will undoubtedly go a little berserk when/if I get to see those northern lights!
hey @aerialnovice, how was your trip to the ice cave in Sept. ? How easy is the hike for a person not too fit? cheers
Great video! We were there this past December 19th with Troll Expeditions and had a great time. Definitely a "bucket-list" trip!
Beautiful video! This one is at the top of my favorites along with your video of snorkeling in the tectonic plates rift and your visit to the Icelandic horse ranch.
Aww thanks Sue that’s good to know! Lots of fun videos coming this year 😊
Hi Jeanie. Thank you for you tips for Iceland. Just returned to the UK from 3 days in Reykjavik. Had a fabulous time. Did the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon; sadly didn't see the Northern Light on this trip. Hiring a Car is certainly the best way to see Iceland. Next time will be 4 nights and Southern Iceland. Keep the videos coming xx
Was tossing back n forth between Katla tour and that man made tunnel tour north of Reykjavik. Going w/Katla. TY!!!
I was there around Sept 1 of 2023. May have been the same ice-cave. At first, I thought the front of the glacier was a mountain [of rock] dusted with snow. Nope! It's a mountain of _ice_ dusted with _volcanic ash!_
I'd always wanted to walk on a glacier, so I was more excited to be in that valley on the other side of the ice-cave, _on_ the glacier, that I was about the ice-cave itself.
And it was raining the entire day. Still was really awesome!
We are going to Iceland In May. Just had to say that your videos have been so helpful for planning and making decisions on our trip. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. Can't wait until we get there!!
Aww yay I’m so glad to hear that! Happy to help and I hope you have the best trip ever!
That was cool.
Awesome video! I am coming to Iceland with my wife for our honeymoon in mid to end Apr. This is definitely one of the item on her list!
What a coincidence I just came home from Katla ice cave tour , it’s amazing
Oh that is ironic! What did you think of the tour?
Love love love 💕
Thanks for making it such a memorable experience!
It was looking good 😊
It was incredible! I'm excited to see what next year's cave will be like!
Got back on Sunday and in one video you sent me from “I want to go back so bad” to PTSD from white knuckle drives in the wind and blizzards. And back to bright sunshiny day--all within 30 minutes. 😂😂
We went on this tour in the summer-smaller cave then but just incredible!!! So stunning!!!
Ohh it would be so cool to see the ice surrounded by green in the summer!
@@IcelandwithaView Yes! The green just glowed around it-surreal!
Thank you so much for sharing. We’re on the same tour in May. Cannot say how excited we are to be doing the tour.
Yay that’s so exciting! I think it will be a different experience to have everything green around the ice cave
How was the tour? I’m thinking of booking!
Thinking of doing this mid-May 2024- how was it?
I fall inlove in this country...
It’s easy to do 😍
Did you take the fast track 3hr tour or the regular 4hr tour?! looks awesome!!
Great content
Thank you so much for tuning in! 🥰
Nice
Thanks for watching!
Been there! The ride was quite bumpy but the ice cave is amazing!
Ha yes bumpy to get out there but worth the views 😍
How long was the drive?
@@sultiib6647 20-30mins
I went on that tour back in 2019. It was a great experience. Almost took a tumble off one of those planks! Lol
What month did you do the tour?
@@IcelandwithaView September
And coming back again THIS September. Veryyyyy excited!
This is beautiful! I'm researching all the options for ice cave tours--this is just made it easier! The colored specks in the clouds, are those the effects of remnants of northern lights?
They're polar stratospheric clouds 😍
If I fly in at 630am, what is there to do in the early morning everything opens
After getting out the jeep how long was the walk to the cave?
Is this one as "blue" as the other video you did?
How long does it take to get to Vik from Reykjavik (with bus)?
Oh maybe you just meet up with the expedition team in Reykjavik a d drive with them from there?
if you could only do katla or jokulsarlon, which would you go with? thanks, i know its not an easy question to answer necessarily.
I’m deciding between the 2 as well. Have you decided on which to go for?

Can I visit Kafla Ice Cave without tour guides? I am planning a ring road tour with my friends
No, too dangerous
How bumpy was the ride if u have a bad back?
They take you as close as possible to the cave in a Super Jeep because the terrain is impossible for a regular car, 4wd or not. As a chiropractor I can't say that I recommend this rugged terrain for those with back problems. 😬
Is this where the show Katla has been filmed??
It was filmed in the area including the town of Vik where the ice cave tour departs from.
Don't go on a glacier with troll guides.
