Show was incredible. I’m still thinking about it days later. Resonates at an emotional level and affects how I view other parts of my life: loyalty, duty, and death.
Shogun not only contends as best show, it is far and away the best entertainment event (show, movie, or play) of the year so far! Everything from the acting, cinematography, screenplay and musical score beautifully combines to create the perfect vehicle to present such a wonderful story!
The period Shogun is set in is Sengoku, although very late. Edo is the one after, named after the city of Edo, which became the new capital after Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga) became Shogun. So the show is about how Sengoku period ended and Edo period began.
I was initially frustrated because I thought the show was going to be more focused on war and I was looking forward to a high budget show featuring feudal Japanese warfare. But once I adjusted to what the show was it was fantastic.
Sorry it's just a jabber fest and reading subtitles then promising Crimson Sky only to get 3 stroke samurai killed by a random arrow and Mariko doing spear ballet to trip and fall doesn't quite cut it. I wasn't expecting battle of Helms deep with cannons fire and brimstone but it's an average show at best. But it is true to the book mostly.
@@jonfreeman9682 Well it's a drama. The show is more about the people than the events. From my understanding the 80's mini series does show the battle at the end if that's what you wanted to see.
Love this show! Totally exceeded my expectations
7:12 The Yabushige UA-cam Thumbnail montage! 🤣

Started great but ran outta steam by the end. Mostly a blah fest with lots of subtitle reading and false advertising for Crimson Sky.
