On 13 October 1957, the Queen made a live television address at 9 pm, in English and French, from her official Canadian residence to the people of Canada. It was her first ever televised broadcast and was telecast by CBC. Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Ottawa on 12 October for a four-day visit to open the first session of the 23rd Canadian Parliament on 14 October.

It’s no secret how much The Queen loved Canada. Who could blame her? It’s an absolutely wonderful place.

Her first-ever address on live television. It's constantly forgotten when the media reports on how many times she appeared on live TV.
She was reportedly incredibly nervous beforehand; reading the script aloud as she walked around the garden of Rideau Hall. Philip eventually helped calm her down a little. In the end, she pulled it off flawlessly.

Gave you a down vote because the monarchy is dead nobody wants it the Caribbeans don't want it because she don't want to apologize for slavery and don't want to give out reparations that's why I Barbados and all the rest of her dominions are falling like dominoes and I couldn't be happier because the Royal cup and visiting are getting nothing but disrespect I f****** love it man they're falling like Domino's they're declaring themselves republics with a president or prime minister title they're no longer welcome because they don't want to apologize for slavery and don't want to give out reparations and this all started from us black people here in the United States the reparation infection is catching on in the former colonies they don't want that Governor generals get the f*** out thank goodness. Fortunately in the US we're still fighting over who guess what when it comes to reparation because we got a lot of f****** Islanders and Africans coming up in here claiming to be American black people and telling Congress that we won't reparations too and that is confusing the entire f****** issue but until we rock these m************ out about gene pool we ain't going to get no reparations in the white man did this deliberately

I hadn't thought of the fact that she visited in 1951 as Princess Elizabeth but Canada wasn't part of the post Coronation tour of the Commonwealth unless you count the quick stop at Nova Scotia en route to Bermuda in 1953. But if you remember that tour was SIX months long with two months alone in Australia I can now understand why Canada wasn't part of THAT tour. It would have been impossible to do it justice. So as she'd been there in 1951 and to South Africa in 1947 perhaps that's why those places where she'd been crowned Queen of weren't part of the 1953-4 tour. It would have taken another six months to take in Canada and South Africa.
