Yeah those Chevy small block motors are solid motors. Also changed out the sprak plugs and wires on this. I'm picking up the truck today and bringing it over to the shop and going to strip it down and get it welded up and ready for paint so looking forward to giving this truck a new life and seeing it back on the road
Yeah that's a really sweet truck, I was actually just down there a few days ago. Getting a list of all the materials needed and supplies to do a full repaint on this truck for him. And put it back to the custom paint job it had in the 80s when he got it from the dealership. It's going to be a fun project.
Hey bro I love every single one of your videos I could watch every one over and over and never get tired of them your are absolutely amazing just wish there were more people just like you that were willing to save more cars from being left to rot away . Are you ever going to be in the Uk around Sleaford area id love to be able to finnally shaking your hand and meet you in person bro .!!!!
Hey thanks I greatly appreciate that🙏 definitely planning to build a lot of cars on the channel. I picked this 1980 Scottsdale up last week I have it here at the shop now. I cut out some patch panels around the gas caps in the city for it last week. Picking up the sand blasting materials this week for it. Hopefully by Monday next week get to sandblasting under the truck and the frame and start tearing it down getting it ready for paint.
Thanks again for watching leaving your comments it's greatly appreciated🙏 and 100% if I find my.way over the UK in Sleaford that would definitely be great 👍🏻
That was fun watching you get that old gal running and even getting her to run off one of the fuel tanks. So many of these videos the guy gets them running but just barely and most usually off a gas can. You must either live where the highway department salts the roads or the owner towed a boat and the bed got dunked at a salt water boat ramp. It would be fun to see you find a bed to stick on it. I inherited two of my dads trucks and one of them was a 79 ford half ton that I went to the dealership with Dad and ordered. That memory is so special to me. I remember every detail of going through the options list with the salesman and picking out how we wanted the truck to be equipped. Dad wanted as efficient of a truck as possible mileage wise so we went with the six and the overdrive stick shift, high geared rear end and dual tanks. It could go a long ways without stopping for gas. He used that truck to tow a boat for Salmon fishing snd when Dad gave it to me it was so rusty that I eventually gave up trying to save it. I gave it to a buddy of mine who owned a wrecking yard and even though it didn’t look too bad on the outside he said the chassis was the rustiest he’d ever seen. I still have all its paperwork since new. The other truck of his I wound up with is a 2004 F-150. Dad gave it to my Sis back about 2014 but she’s real hard on cars and about two years later it was relegated to the pasture with a broke transmission. She told me she was going to have a scrapper come get it and I realized that this was going to be my last chance to get one of my Dads trucks so my son and I went over to her place and winched it up on the trailer and brought it home. It’s really sad how quickly a vehicle can go to pot when they’re left outside and not run for a few years. He’d quit fishing by the time he had bought this one so it had no rust problems. My Son is a Ford tech and he had the trans out on the bench and rebuilt in just a couple of weekends. As you can imagine I’m pretty proud of him. We stripped the interior and power washed the seats and carpet and let them sit out in the dry summer heat for a couple days to get rid of the mouse smell. Somehow, Sis had managed to bend the driveshaft too so I looked for years to find a good one at the pick-n-pull but no luck and seemingly the only other option was to go to the dealer and buy one new but the price of 800 dollars kept me from ordering one. So Dads truck sat for another year or two. Finally, I found a company on eBay that specializes in manufacturing new driveshafts. They had the hard to find (two piece with an idler bearing) driveshaft I needed for under three hundred with free shipping. I ordered it and it arrived in less than a week and it was perfect for my application. The only problem now is this ttuck has the notoriously bad 5.4 engine with the faulty cam followers. No death rattle yet but hopefully we can treat this truck gently enough now that it’s retired that that day will never come.
Thanks I appreciate that. Yeah we were able to get the Truck running off both of the original fuel tanks. That 350 fired up pretty good order was definitely happy to see it up and running again. looking to get the chance now to restore it for him. I priced out all the panels for it at Classic Industries and it wouldn't take much to repaint the entire truck. Yeah not too sure, as the truck is in Alberta Truck and here in Alberta we do not use salt don't know how the rust got that bad on the box sides. That's cool that you were able to keep one of your father's trucks and have your son assist in the rebuilding of it and getting the transmission all up and running again. It's always cool to be able to cherish those memories. And I know what you mean by the price of parts. The 58 Impala that I'm building and working on most of the parts for that are $500 a piece. So it's definitely stretching that project out for the long term.
Here in the states, a company out of Chattanooga, Tenn. called "Choo Choo Custums" modified lots of GM products from Chevy and GMC pickups and van. They did interiors with seats, CB Radios and pop-up Sunroofs. Exteriors were modified with special stripes and company "Call-outs" letting the world know who modified the vehicle.
Oh really that's awesome that's super cool to hear. I wasn't aware of anything like this until I came across this truck. It's really sweet to see things like this. Have the truck in the shop right now I've already gone and got some panels needed for it. Hopefully get a chance to do some sandblasting on it tomorrow or the following day and then get this thing stripped down and ready for paint
Thanks again for watching and leaving your comments it's greatly appreciated definitely cool to know that there was other custom shops that were doing this as well. Can't wait to have this truck put back into that original custom paint Style
What fun this video was. Loved that you filmed every step along the way, with detailed explanation of what you're doing to get this beauty running again. The owners face was priceless once it was running. lol Had an 81 Sierra 3/4 454 and hauled an old, heavy 12 1/2 ft truck camper on it. Flew down highway 2 (QE 11) effortlessly , not even feeling the camper on it. It was rusted on the rear sides too. I'm pretty sure they salted the roads back in the day.
It was definitely a fun project to get this truck up and running again. Oh exactly the owner was super happy to have the truck up and running again. Oh they must have thrown some saw down back in the day I've definitely come across a fair amount of the square bodies that have rusted box sides like that out here in Alberta. Hopefully getting the chance to repaint this one for the owner as well.
As long as it isnt a clutch fan just push down on the belt with one hand and turn fan with other. Unless it is seized up it will turn w/fan. Im tellin ya, d9nt waste yer time with the plugs, just start it. Those motors are bullet proof buddy
Perfect that's Good to know about the belts. I'll give that try for sure next time I'm working on a chevy Small block. My brother's 79 Silverado 10 we Redid he's been running that chevy Small block in that truck for the longest time.
Great find, what a classic, love the grill and square headlights and it has a 350 that's a bonus, you can't kill them. This engine sounds like it was cared for. As for the panels, yes go for it, but the frame looks kinda ripe in places, what a shame. Looking forward to seeing it again. Cheers
Yeah it's a pretty sweet pickup truck. I was actually just over there the other day getting a list together of all the parts we would need to get the vehicle repainted. Hope we got those on honour here right away so we can get this Chevy Scottsdale back on the road. I'm looking forward to giving it the retro custom paint job it originally had back when the original owner picked it up.
Yeah we have a Walmart out here but I'm up in Northern Alberta. So they also add on the US dollar to Canadian dollar conversion rate and it seems they also had extra money on everything for the travel to get up here too. Hhaha oil honestly should be like $20
Yeah that's battery gotta be probably from the mid 90s I'd be thinking. I'm actually heading over there sometime this week to get a parts list together all the panels that'll need so I could get that repainted for the owner. I Should check out the date on that battery just to see how old that thing was.
Yeah I have noticed that the adds and commercials on UA-cam have gotten crazy like how Adds and commercials used to be on TV programs. At least we can skip them on UA-cam after 5 seconds lol.
I was actually just over there this evening getting this truck loaded up on the trailer and brought it back to the shop. Going to be getting this truck stripped down welded up and painted and put back in the road. Definitely looking forward to it
Oh yeahh that fire right off without issues. Was just over there a few days ago going over what the truck needs for replacement panels /parts etc for paint. Things running great
Hey thanks yeah it's really sweet pickup truck. I was just at the owner's house yesterday we got it loaded up on the trailer and brought it over my shop. Getting it ready to be torn down and ready for paint.
Yeah it should definitely turn out pretty sweet. Already priced all the parts out at Classic Industries for the truck for new box sides doors and fenders it's under $2,500 from Classic Industries. Basically getting a brand new truck for that price. The original owner was thinking about having it painted back to the original 80s style custom paint job he had when he picked it up at the original dealership in Cold Lake.
That's definitely next step for me. I've lined up a few paint jobs, This 1980 chevy, a 58 Ford truck 1990s Ford dual crew cab and another one in the next few months Once I get done with those paint jobs. I'll have the extra Cash needed to put into my chevelle and get that rolling with the parts power train etc I've needed for it.
@markt9438 for sure no problem I try and respond to any comments that are left for me. If anyone takes time out to leave a comment I always try to reply I appreciate my videos being watched and comments being left in the comments section 👍🏻
Exactly I prefer my engines carbureted with a lot less computers tied into them haha. That 350 SBC is a solid running motor in this truck. I'm looking forward to picking it up in a few weeks and tearing it down and getting ready to be welded up and painted
Thats it bro, i cant take hearing 26 years one more time. And why wouldnt it run good? He said it ran great when he parked it so of course its gonna run! Ya cheated on this one
Thank you I greatly appreciate that. I currently have this truck in my shop right now I've got it stripped down getting ready to take the box off. And then start welding up all the patch panels I've picked up for it 👍🏻 I've already gone ahead and sandblasted the back half of the frame in box on the truck as well. Definitely looking forward to getting this painted for the owner in the original custom paint it had
Yeah I was just over there a few days a good talking with the owner getting a list together for all the replacement panels needed for the truck. Hopefully be bringing the Scottsdale over to my new shop a week or two and getting it ready to start the tear down for a new paint job. Going to paint it back to the orginal photos of the truck that were in the video. Definitely looking forward to it
Yeah this 1980 is a really sweet truck. I was just over there the other week getting a parts list together so I could repaint this truck and help the owner get it back on the road again
Thanks it was a great time being able to get this 1980 Scottsdale up and running for the owner it's really cool pickup truck. And it's also cool that it's still with the original owner that bought it off the showroom floor in 1980 that's awesome.
Thanks for subscribing welcome to the channel. I Meet up with the owner last week to get a full parts list together. Hopefully be getting this Scottsdale over to the new shop right away to tear it down and get it repainted and give it some new life.

It's a chevy small block bro, just throw some gas down it's throat and turn the key. It will fire right up for sure
Thanks for watching the videos and leaving your comments 👍🏻
So it just needed topped off and fresh fuel!! Awesome
Yeah those Chevy small block motors are solid motors. Also changed out the sprak plugs and wires on this. That's an old battery. Has the green eye for checking battery life, which really didn't work because it only showed one cell.

Sadly no, it did stay local when I finally had to sell it though. Dude was from Crane Lake I think…
Last we heard your next step on the chevelle was to sand blast it !!!? I like what you have done so blast away LOL
That's definitely next step for me.
