- Fans have near religious experience watching Dale Earnhardt Jr. win the Pepsi 400 after his father died earlier that year racing on the same track. It was the next race after the loss of his dad. The fireworks at the end of the show were exploded in the shape of a 3 to honor his father.
The 2001 Pepsi 400 was a NASCAR Winston Cup Series stock car race held on July 7, 2001, at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The race is the 17th of the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season. The race was the first at Daytona since the 2001 Daytona 500, in which Dale Earnhardt was killed on the final lap. Sterling Marlin of Chip Ganassi Racing won the pole position. Dale Earnhardt Jr. of Dale Earnhardt, Inc. won the race, while DEI teammate Michael Waltrip and Elliott Sadler finished second and third, respectively.
Can’t help but tear up upon hearing everyone go wild on the last turn knowing Jr. was winning.
There will never be a moment in nascar like this anymore. This was back when nascar was in it's prime.
Dale Sr was looking down from heaven that night saying "That's my son!"
That makes me cry bro that his the heartfull u ever said
On turn 4 he was probably like "kick their asses Jr!"
I've seen this comment on another video, but yeah. Drive your way to heaven, Dale. You've earned it.
@@TheREALMaxDanger It was likely my comment then, lol.
Wow. Really give you an idea of how loud the crowd was.
I get chills just listening to the crown it not like that anymore
Michael Waltrip is second, but it’s going to be Dale Earnhardt Jr! Using lessons learned from his father to go from 6th to first and score the victory in the Pepsi 400!
The words of NBC play by play announcer Allen Bestwick.
February 18, 2001 was the darkest day in NASCAR history. July 7, 2001 was the greatest day in NASCAR history
To be in that crowd must have been insane, I wish I was alive back then to experience it
23 years later, this is still one of the most emotional wins in NASCAR history. I was born in 2004, but this still tears me up.😢
This is the day Nascar and its fans healed ever so slightly. The world will forever miss Dale Earnhardt sr but that day eased a lot of hearts.
I got the chance to go to the October 2001 Talladega race. The crowd was roaring that day too man, what an experience!.
Dale was lookin down and was probably like, “my boy is kickin ass!”
I never thought I would see this on UA-cam. Awsome
Now that's a piece of racing History that will be a treasure that will never be forgotten
Meanwhile, in Heaven:
Dale Sr.: That's my boy!
Ralph Earnhardt: That's my Grandson!
I was there sitting in the Oldfield section just off of turn 4, first row. I had been watching Nascar since the mid 80's, but this was my first race. That was a great night! I no longer watch or support Nascar, but I love revisiting these old videos to remember how it was.
K sjw what else did you stop supporting
@@midnightdeluxegaming6582prob Jr's retirement
That race ranks top even above the Daytona 500 wins of both Jr and Dale Earnhardt 😳
I still get chills looking at this race even after 20 plus years too!!! ❤
Die hard Earnhardt fan of Dale and Jr and Earnhardt family too ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Damn that is really cool wow and he's been gone 20 years and I still remember it like it was yesterday forever 3 in our heart
Little did they know what would happen 2 months later
yeah, and who'd win a week after that tragic day

I’ll never forget watching this! It was more exciting & emotional than both his 500 victories combined!
proud to be an American playing in the background has to be the craziest part
My grandparents were at that race and they said when the race ended he remembered that there was a firework that had 3. Welp I showed him this vid and said that’s it
Me if I was in that crowd: R.I.P. EARS
Chills
Everybody on earth knew jr was gonna win that race lol. Weather he wanted to or not 💯
