Trev & Nath INDOORS at the OUTDOOR EXPO 23! Summit or Nothing

- This past Sunday, Nath and myself hit the road for a 6 hour round trip to visit Birmingham's NEC, home of the National Outdoor Expo. What wonders would we see? Would it whet our outdoors appetite? Find out here with this short video of our time there!
Vango F10 Hydrogen Air Tent - amzn.to/3Lyp6od
Completely agree with your summary, at the end of the day it's not about collecting loads of new kit, it's about using what kit you've got.
Like the occasional tent review etc, but it's more interesting watching you guys out there using it, and enjoying your time out there.
It encourages me to do the same 👍👍👍
That was a great chat about gear. Very refreshing to see an outdoorsy UA-cam channel saying "oh actually we're happy with what we've got already, and don't really want any new stuff".
Yea, I am at the point where I can't get too excited about new gear. I just want to get back out again! Soon I hope.
You guys had me at 'You could have the same experience at a really big GoOutdoors'... 😆
Always love watching your uploads. Good to see your partner back too - don’t tell the wife. Always a refreshing look at the hobby, with a stab of humour and often apologetic in your lack of acumen of the subject when actually, you are extremely knowledgable, entertaining and interesting. Nice one Trev (and Nate). I’ve learned so much over the years.
Thanks Andy - I guess we must learn by our mistakes lol. All the best to you! Cheers!
More.....More ........more..........more👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Brilliant boys. Lovely jubbly.
Always good to see the Summit Or Nothing OG's back again.
How did I miss this notification ....c'mon UA-cam, I'm so happy I can't contain myself😆👏👏👏👏👏♥️♥️
Trevor/Nathan,
I visited the Expo on Saturday and I was extremely disappointed. There was hardly anything of interest, apart from a pop up stool that is. I think it would have been the show to go to if you wanted a changing robe (changing robe retailers as far as the eye could see, they must have made up 50% of all the retailers!) 😁
I got my tickets for free, but I still had to pay parking. I think I was robbed!
I am much the same as you I am an avid lover of the outdoors, hiking, walking, camping, wild camping, kayaking, canoeing, MTB etc.. I was so looking forward to my visit to the show, everything all under one roof which I am interested in and also potential savings to be made on replacement gear. Not to too mention new equipment to investigate. I even held back on buying a new paddle for my canoe until going to this show, may be more choice and a little cheaper. The only thing I came back with was a £20 dog treat dispenser, I guess my Golden Retrieve is happy. Just need to buy it some treats now, one for next year!
I think the Expo is a replacement for the Outdoor Leisure Show from the past, I bet it was nearing 5 - 6 years (may be longer) ago when the Outdoor Leisure show stopped. I was expecting the Expo to be very much like the Outdoor Show, alas nothing like it. I think the Ordnance Survey were the main sponsor back then, but I was slightly confused at the Expo. OS were there, but there seemed to be sponsors who didn't even have displays. Why were all the big players?
The Outdoor Leisure Show took up three large sheds, the Expo was just in the one shed. I even spent time scatching my head thinking that I had missed a shed or two.... or three.
I can only think that the Expo was a trial for future shows and to gauage the attendence to see if its worth ramping the show up to what it use to be. I think they have missed an opertunity because think people will think twice next year. I know I will...
Regards
Dan
Trev and his pom poms. Scary thought.
Its going to look amazing seeing people sit in their tent with door open and pumping like hell 😂
I went on the Saturday. Shame to miss u 2. Nice to see u both back together on the channel 👍🏻
Nath is back, back again
Nath is back, tell a friend.
I love watching you 2 very much 🫶🏽lots of lough 🫶🏽💙🤭❤️👀🤣😂
Good to see the pair of you bantering again! If we're honest, trips to expos usually underwhelm once you get there.
faces when inside lol , cant wait for a long hike and camp vid with you both - Adam
"Gucci equipment." You hit the nail on the head.. Good to see you guys 👍
Great video. Saved me going at sometime in the future.
I'm so glad I didn't go to the Indoor Outdoor Expo now. I was bothered it would be bonk, and from your experience, it looks like it was. However.... you have just won the Internet with "Shartmoor" 😂😂😂😂
I think we should get #Shartmoor trending. 😅😅😅
Thank you. I literally spat out my food laughing with your looks of wonder at 1:20.
Great to see the shartmoor team back together again 😂
That vango tent would be overpriced at £200.
I'm with you on that stuff chaps. New gear is ace and fun, but it feels like it can easily replace the wonder and grit and type 2 fun that can be had in just getting out there. It was refreshing to hear the same from you two.
Good to see you two
Was really awesome seeing you guys at the outdoor expo. Sorry I was a bit flustered at the time. I was thinking exactly the same about the expo while I was there, but didn't want to put a downer on the day. We need an outdoor outdoor expo for sure!
Was nice to meet you too. It did make us laugh that you were so flustered, we are just a builder and a window fitter lol. Shame the show was so disappointing. Hope you didn't have to travel too far for it. Thanks for coming to say hi! All the best!
Yes lads back together ❤️ 👏😂
I imagine the muffin cost more than the socks! Nice vid fellas. 👍🏼
Great video. Very funny
Gud see that lads being lads, luvs ye keeping it well ladders
Everyone we follow made it seem like it was the best thing ever, glad to see that it wasn't perfect! Extendable chairs seems a little much for a camp
Get some camps done lads, like the Jack Dee factor on the show, Nathan always brings the reality to a situation.
Had free tickets for this but decided not to go when I saw the list of exhibitors. Trev & Nath out together again - excellent! Hope you can get out on Shartmoor together soon.
Yea, we probably wouldn't bother again. Was disappointed
Good to see the both of you side by side … enough indoors let’s see you out on the moors together
Just found your channel after looking for tarp camping videos, love the relaxed vibe of your videos. I won tickets to the expo but couldn't go in then end, looks like I didn't miss much 😅
Oh, awesome. Glad that you have found us. Hope you continue to enjoy all of the content available. Thanks for watching!
Yes boys, love to see you guys back! 👌
It’s nice to see the band back together 😊 I was at the Expo Saturday, it was ok. Lots of food and drink stalls!
Yea, too many brownies lol. Had a good laugh in the car though.
You 2 are great together hopefully see you next week when you’re out and about again I enjoy seeing your videos all the best john from Sheffield South Yorkshire England Great Britain
Good to see the boys back.. hopefully see you both out hiking / wild camping at some point!
Shartmoor! Stealing that !!
Speaking of Ghostbusters, that peri peri vendor reminds me of the museum guy from Ghostbusters 2 with the Vigor painting!
😆😆😂
It's a show for people that watch outdoors videos but rarely go outdoors... Or for UA-camrs more interested in making money and gathering free gear than enjoying the outdoors... Mentioning no names.... 😜
well who could that possibly be?? 🤣🤣🤣
@@waynus2021 let's just say, It ain't Trev or Nath or anyone from Summit or nothing..
It sounds like the consensus was politely given that the convention was quite lame (was full of Brummies after all). Bring back the funny bald guy camping again, you two make an entertaining pair. Enjoyed the video, thanks!
that vango looks like half a McDonalds sign! 🤣🤣 i suspect that in years to come Dartmoor campers might need to be a bit more stealthy (if you know what i mean) and that last thing i want is a bleddy gert orange hoop advertising my position
I think the loop you can see was just for the demo. The real loop hides inside the tent
@@SummitOrNothing 🤣🤣my bad!
Really appreciate your honest thoughts. All the other channels pretending it was something special, I went and it was awful. Nothing there that I was interested in seeing. I could have had a day out. I bought some socks too. And a hat..... And a collapsible chair! It will live in the boot.
Good to see you both out but indoors , honest review of what looks like a huge camping supermarket 🤣🤣 nice one guys 👏👏👏
I could see the disappointment on you faces guys but really ace to see you out and about together! 😝😝😝 ATVB Graham
Shame I missed you guys there. Should've come camping in the Peak District 😂
Great honest comments. A marketing tool no more no less. Like you I have the kit I need, can't justify major investments maybe a few trinkets or replacement items like socks but that's it. Need to use the kit I have more! Great Links tor over Easter beckons!! Mind the 💩 😂
Great to see the two of you out together again. Next time I hope its a hike /wild camp. It would be nice if Vango gave you a tent to review and use out and about.
Great to see you 2 back together again, I thought the exact same about the Expo. Not great it was okay if you wanted a dry robe . You are correct about just getting out it’s not really about having the best gear.
I cut a bit out of the video where I ranted about dry robes, a pet hate of mine. Wish I'd kept it in now
You are so right about these shows. Trying to sell us things we don't need or want. That Vango is ridicules. Makes the Hilleberg ANARIS value for money.
Guys it was a good honest review. I didn't go this year but hoping to attend next year. One of my reasons for going is to meet fellow campers.
I didn't know you were into spicy sausage 🤭🤣🤣
Atb Taff 🤠👊👊
Loved seeing you two boys together again. My favourite pair of plonkers 😉 you've got a great point about kit. So long as you've got what you need, the rest is about the experience. I love kit as much as the next man. I've gone crazy in the last 12 months, however, I'm done now and probably won't get much now until something breaks.
I'm headed to Okehampton a week Friday for a 3 nighter... haven't been since the army, can't wait to get back and have a mooch about!
Awesome Craig - hope that this shitty weather improves for you! I'm hoping to grab a day or two on the moor midweek next week... work permitting
@SummitOrNothing I'll take it as it comes, i need to put myself and my kit through the ringer anyhow mate. Can't wait. Its a long old distance from Essex though!
Yeah, spent an hour there and we walked round a few times. Nothing I wanted really and didn't bump into any of the social media outdoorsy people I follow. Came out having spent £10 on ice cream and £17 for parking.
Glad to see you've put the band back together!
Nice to see the lads doing some stuff together... like you said some good stuff but not at the price am interested in... PS all the way to Birmingham to buy a hat 😅
There were a couple of interesting tents at the Vango stand, the Nevis 200 caught my eye. I think they’ve replaced the banshee. It’s not on their site now either.
Ah! The end it an era! The Vango stall was the only one that really grabbed our attention.
Never been always fancied it every year, then I look at Google Maps and see 3 hours plus on the motorway and think - naw. It's funny seeing you walk around (twice) and buying next to nothing, which is exactly what I do when I am in Keswick, tons of outdoors shops and I am in most of them but just looking and come out with next to nothing each time. I think you have made me realise, unless it's at Newcastle next time (just up the road 20 minutes), I think I will be giving it a miss, cheers Alan
Yea, you didn't miss much, Alan. Was really disappointed.
Alpkit do an airbeam tent, called the Aeronaut, nowhere near as expensive (or as light) as the Hydrogen though!
I was going to ask did you buy something or nothing but then you said you wanted a hat and socks. Looking forward to seeing you both camping again.
great to see you both out again even if it wasnt a camp or hike, we were their on saturday and it was rammed, you couldnt move, it was abit too busy, ben fogle was ace
Good to see you guys out again. Hope you are both well. Is there any news on the canoe or the camper van?
The canoe is on going but presently on hold at the moment as nath is in between properties. He did mention the Camper is still underway at his dad's.
So hang on!
Vango have taken a Banshee and put a bike innertube in it and are charging £700. 🤣
Great video chaps.
Can't wait for SorN 23.
🤣🤣🤣 that's about right Doug!
It was a good social outing but that's about it. Met Ben Fogle who was lovely but some of the stands were pretty random...like Hello Fresh ...?
If I had known you two were going I’d have just gone to say hi.
Quick get the collapsible chair 😂This is a great video. It’s not about the gear once you have the basics, much prefer seeing videos of people stomping about the hills than reviewing their new tent that you never see them use that is out of reach budget wise for most people watching.
The dream team
Agreed...
Always have a giggle watching your videos. Nice to see you two together again.
Aww me and Mr Wild Astro were there on Saturday. The best thing I had from the show was the FATMAP App. Really good demo and a month free. Shame not many tents, apart from loads of tent boxes. Was looking forward to valley and Peak, but stall was tiny. Still better than last year though. Maybe it'll get better each year?
Yea, we thought the Sunday may be a bit quieter. Didn't really grab us though. Thought maybe we would come back with loads. Socks and a hat lol.
@Summit Or Nothing 😂😂
I went on the Saturday. Seemed alright if you wanted a home made flapjack, a brownie, or some overpriced gear. Was good to meet a few folk but otherwise shite 😆
I think the tagline for the Vango F10 Hydrogen Air is a tad misleading, it says "The world's lightest twin skin tent with AirBeam technology". That could be read as being the world's lightest twin skin tent, which it isn't - The Terra Nova Laser Pulse Ultra 1 has a packed weight of under 500g, and you don't even have to inflate the poles. The Nordisk Lofoten 1 ULW is a close second.
Maybe it is the world's lightest twin skin tent which uses Airbeam? ....but I could make my own tent from old curtains with poles made from laminated Greggs Sausage Rolls and I'm pretty sure it would be the world's lightest tent with that specific caveat.
Yea, I think that's what they mean, they had a poster for a lighter tent, so we made that assumption too
Glad it wasnt just me. It was a good walk around but not alot too it. Was out in an hour and half. Some good ideas but rather would have gone and done something else lol. Lots of business but not that much to buy! Glad it wasnt just me!
Who'd of thought...going for a walk outside is multi million business lol. I agree with you Trev and Nathan, a lot of stuff at these shows are just stuff you don't need and over priced.
We can go camping on Shartmoor🤣
good to see you both together again !!!!
Yes I only came back with a compact table, how many stands were selling those dry robes? 😂 I expected more brands and tents to be there but it was good to see some other outdoor stuff like the pack rafts, yurts and car roof tents. No real bargains to be had but that’s often the case with NEC stall costs.
I’m in the market for a new tent as I have the banshee 300 and wanted something lighter. Thought the new Vango could be a goer if it was under £200 😂
🤣🤣🤣 Yea, gotta break the bank with that one! Hope you sort something soon. Cheers for watching!
I was there on the Sunday and really enjoyed. Did you go to any of the talks? Some great ones, especially Muslim Hikers and the OS App people. But I did make a few impulse purchases - £12 fro three flapjacks for example. Bought my first Harvey Map. Oh, and some new ergonomic trekking poles.
I do love a Harveys map. No, we hovered at the side of a few talks but again, nothing grabbed us. Glad that you enjoyed it, though, Phil!
Good to see you gents out and indoors together.
I got a folding stool off Amazon that was pretty cheap and damn light. Not gonna lie, bloody game changer 😂 100% get you on the capitalism though! ✌️
I came over from Ireland for that expo. Was very disappointing. Was thinking it be a city of tents to choose from, but was crap. Good to meet you though.
Was nice to meet you too. Shame it wasn't quite what we expected, the way other tubers rave about it we thought it would be the event of the year. Shan't bother again
@@SummitOrNothing you should cook up some scones and sell them at £10 each, noting secret ingredients to keep you energetic for a day hiking. Look forward to more reviews, that vango for an arm and a leg perhaps! Best Regards from Ireland.
Nailed it lads....Nice to look at 700 quid tents but when the gas bill pops up I'll take my naturehike star river 2 and pay my bills 😂cheers lads
Great to see you both out again even if you was at indoor market 😄😄
cheers Steve!
If I would have seen Paul Messner there, I would have definitely told him to grow some thick skin and turn the comments back on
that Vango tent you was shaking looked like that film where the women blew up the rubber pilot in airplane comedy hahaa go back and shaking it again hahaahaaa £700, for a bloody tent some ppl are bonkers !!
good opinion on equipment, its not all about gadgets ...
Yea I went and was quite disappointed to be honest, nothing special. Enjoyed the northface outlet over the road more 😉
How is Nath's canoe coming along
Its on hold at present due to him moving to a more restricted location - but he's on th emove again soon so should start again - that being said, he's got quite far with it but i havent got around to editing the videos yet.
Bouze are 🎉 Back
Great to see an honest review of one of these events. Good to see Nath back on the channel. Hope his IBS gets sorted.
We went on the Sunday and was underwhelmed by the lack of hiking stands. Vodka, rum and brownie stands seemed to outnumber those who had any hiking relevance.
Yea, it was a long way to go for a bit of a dull selection. Well, we know for future.
@Summit Or Nothing we did Snowdon the day before, so wasn't so bad.
Great to see the two of you together again and to hear your honest review of the event! 😄 Hope you got to meet a few subscribers. All the best.
Yea we did meet some subs, was great to chat to them. Was disappointed otherwise
I also thought that not only were a lot of my fave brands missing from the show but the stands that were there had minimal for sale and the prices were high.
I think if you went for the talks you'd get more out of the show.
Yea we hovered by a few talks but didn't really get involved I guess.
@@SummitOrNothing they had some very interesting guest speakers there. We didn't pay much attention either tbh
@@tom7676 If I'm honest, I don't even watch the celeb guests when they're on TV. Rather nonplussed by them. Did pass Julia Bradbury with a team surrounding her powdering her face so she could have selfies.
Well I'm so glad I didn't go there again I didn't now it was on 😂😂 that tent didn't look that good especially £700 atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Saw you talking to messner on Sunday
You should have come and said hi!
@@SummitOrNothingI know mate you guys looked deep in conversation.
I agree. All this classy. Expensive gear is a lot of pompous twatt. Just gotta get put there hey.
Was disappointing. Think the people who enjoyed it seemed to just enjoy the social side. Hardly any camping or hiking stuff and stuff there was the high end expensive stuff. Maybe next year I'll check out the caravan and camping show!
Yea, wasn't a great deal. Disappointing really. Good crack on the road trip though.
First 🤘😎
Looks like a show hall full of bullshit for the arm chair adventurer who goes away once a year to a parkdean campsite but takes £2000 worth of gear. 😂
Sure there’s stuff to be had that’s worth having but as with the bike shows, I’ve found it’s all cheaper online. Good day out just to get out and see what’s about though and how daft people are who spend £680 on a vango tent when for 100g more they can have a tent for £120!!
Banged the nail on the head with the comment about the £130 stool. Rocks are free the grounds soft, just get your piece of mat out.
we`re all guilty of being suckered in though Smokin , i bought a Jetboil flash 2.0 for a gazillion quid and my left kidney , 9 times out of 10 i leave the bugger at home and just take a 30 quid spirit burner (like i did before!!)
@@waynus2021 l was gonna say. Vango banshee 200/300 trangia 25/27 reasonable sleeping mat and bag for the season your camping and you’re good to go.
Or £700 hilleberg tent, £200 air mat £500 sleeping bag and £200 jet boil. (Just to reheat you overpriced boil in the bag meal)
I didn't make it there ...a couple of mates did and said pretty much the same.
You didn't miss much Chris!
Hey guys, great to see you both on camera again!
Shart tor 🤣
