There are two kinds of artists in this world. The ones that become famous for no apparent logical reason most of which are then flipped over like a page in a boring book, and then you get artistic geniuses like Brand New whose musical legacy will get re-discovered again and again decades later by those with a raging war of morals on the inside. Finding even more questions to their questions. I have an autistic son and one should see the reaction my child has to some of their music, he just stands still and gets this stunned and relieved expression on his face that no therapist or treatment has ever done for him. It is truly a religious experience for him and it is perhaps one of the few moments where I can truly feel that we connect and for that alone they have my most loyal devotion and respect... God bless those boys and their families !

I am a Christian, and this song speaks to me, because even I am afraid of being rejected, of finding myself alone in the end. Even Christians sometimes have doubts. Doubts aren't wrong; its how you react to those doubts that determines everything.
Brand New has to be the most criminally underrated bands. The musicianship and lyrical content of their albums never cease to amaze me.
I wouldn't say underrated, most of their albums are critically acclaimed, and I wouldn't say unheard of either seeing as they're shows sell out in seconds, but I understand what you mean. They're the biggest band no one's ever heard of.
The only reason people dislike them (people like my sister) is because they had major beef with Taking Back Sunday for a while

I like the ending of this video. I think it is ironic how during the whole song the actor is talking to Jesus and how he does not believe he is good enough to reach heaven. In the end, he is the one who saves himself. He is the one flying circles around the church with his hand made wings. Powerful stuff.

My best friend introduced me to this band he was obsessed with them. This was his ringtone on his phone. He died in my arms 3 months ago from a heroin overdose 3 days before we were supposed to move out west. This song brings a tear to my eye every time I here it. Funny how since he past it always seems to come on the radio while im driving. I lost the only true friend I've ever had. He told me three days before he died that he wished he were dead he just gave up. Heroin addiction is hell.

I can relate to this song so much it's unbelievable, it literally describes depression and suicidal thoughts. i just lie down on the floor with this song on repeat and finally feel like someone understands, like I'm not alone, its unbelievably beautiful, it's funny how the simplest of tunes can make such an amazing effect

I am saddened that my son's school will not allow him to play this song on stage. Why not? It is powerful and moving. My 14 year old has been practicing on acoustic and sings it very well. Being told that he says Jesus Christ too many times in the wrong manner, tells me that they did not listen to the words. My son asked, "How would you address him if you were saying your last prayer to him?"

i've been spiritual most of my life, i've also been at stages in my life where i didn't believe in anyone or anything. All i know is that when i was going through my severe anxiety and depression and couldn't leave my house this song helped me get through it. And now im going through something that is easily the hardest thing i've been through, and this song still is here helping me... it doesn't matter your belief or background this song is anointed with healing...
I just desperately feel the need to forget this song and rediscover it over and over, somehow even if it means losing all of the thoughts I've collected through contemplating it. I don't know.

It's partly about his struggles with God, and his faith, which is something most Christians (and indeed non-Christians) have doubts about throughout their life. It's so powerful.

I know the feeling, I lost my dad to the same issue 6 years back and the family has never been the same since. A lot of us aren't religious. I ain't, but this song makes you wonder and wish they're alright afterwards. Again, sorry to hear. The best thing is to try and not to understand but realize you couldn't help because he felt like he'd made up his mind. It only gnaws on your mind forever, I have nights where it happens but they still love you even though they're gone.
This song has been very important to me this week. On Saturday night my friend overdosed on Paracetamol in an attempt to take his own life. In an facebook post just before the attempt he blamed his father for leaving him and the fact he felt abandoned by God. I always connected to this song for my regular, everyday teenage problems. But it wasn't until when I woke up on Sunday morning to see that post that this song really hit me. This is raw, honest and beautiful. Remember you are loved

My interpretation of the video is that the guy wants to get to heaven (having dreams and obviously wanting to fly), but his sins and burdens (all the objects piled on his back when he was walking and his feet turning to spiders) weighs him down and makes him believe he isn't good enough to reach it.

It is a Catholic school and they wouldn't allow it.
My son proudly backed out of the showcase, but he still played for the school band. He wouldn't allow them to stifle his choice in music. We proudly stood behind his decision. He fulfilled his responsibilities without compromising and being force to play a song on their preselected list.

We know that people need the Lord Jesus Christ and that's why we want Him to bless everyone of you. He has moved so much in our lives (my friend and I). If it offends/upsets you.. well.. that's not our intention but we'd be dishonoring God if were to silence ourselves every time someone ridiculed Christianity or was put off by The Truth.

I keep seeing all these comments about people who've listened to the song committing suicide. This song never made anyone commit suicide. The lyrics are just extremely relatable for people who feel lonely and depressed. When I first heard this song, I could've sworn that Jesse was inside my head and reading my thoughts. Apparently, a lot of people can relate to it. Nobody ever died because of this song. It's just a beautiful synopsis of the way that so many of us feel.
It's about the journey of never giving up on the dreams you had when you were a little kid. Even if the world says you can't. The roads traveled, the battles fought, the struggles encountered, the pain of the sacrifices made. It's about being lost, and doing what's necessary, regardless; to find yourself.

This album didn't really stick with me when I first listened to it, I ended up not touching it for about 8 months, but then gave it another shot. I cried when I heard this song. The whole theme arced over the entire album is exactly what the name says, fighting over what is right and wrong in both your physical life and spiritual one, one that as an open-minded Christian, I deal with heavily. Brand New perfectly captures the balance between doubt and faith that every Christian has to deal with.
