We just got back from Portofino Bay! It was a great trip, but the construction made it inconvenient to get around the resort. We went to the Villa pool and the Beach pool and weren't bothered by the construction at all. It was a great trip but I'll wait till the work is finished before I book there again. Thanks for all of your updates and congratulations to your daughter!
I am so happy that you had a great trip. I know that getting around the resort is a real pain. Once they are finished on the harbor side they will be moving around the back of the resort to finish on the pool sides. Hope to see you in the parks.
We are arriving on the 15th of June. Have a villa reserved.. how bad is the construction in the villa wing? I’m hoping to have a room facing the pool rather than the harbor so that the windows aren’t covered. Very nervous. It’s our first trip to universal. Your videos have been so helpful for visual updates.
As of last Sunday they had just gotten over to the Beach pool area. They had not started anything at the Villa Pool. I was told that they were only going to be working in one pool area at at time. The hardest thing about this renovation is the pure scope of it. They are putting in new windows and painting. I will be shooting another video tomorrow so stay tuned in.
I would love the view from the Villa wing looking at the Villa pool. That would put you close to the water taxi, beach pool, villa pool and the restaurants.
Thanks for these videos!! I’ve got a trip planned at the end of this month for a club room. I’m debating on whether or not to cancel because of the construction. Are club rooms typically the ones near the lounge? Trying to understand what the room experience is going to be like. Debating on canceling and doing Sapphire instead but these standard rooms are so much larger. It seems Sapphire has the smallest rooms out of all the resorts
I think you will enjoy the club level rooms. We have video of the club level rooms and the food. When we stayed club level we were in the center of the resort. The rooms still have plastic over them but I fully expect that to be down on those rooms in the next couple of weeks You do not get the express passes in the park at Sapphire falls. Sapphire falls does have two of our favorite restaurants in Strong Water Tavern and Amatista Cook house. We have a video of both of them. Three Pools at Portofino versus one at Sapphire. With the express passes you do not need to feel rushed to get to the parks and can enjoy your time at the parks and the resort. They both have water taxi and are about the same walking distance.
Just to add for anyone travelling soon and worried about the construction around the pools. The hotel contacted us about our reservation. Stated that construction will only be around 1 pool at a time. Finish around one and then start the other. The harbour area is due completion by end of July.
Thanks so much, I love this resort , sadly I didn’t know about the renovation and I book my vacations for June 18-25 of this year and I can’t do so much stairs 😢 I hope they can really help me with my suggestions on elevator so I can enjoy my vacation
They have elevators and walkways that you dont have to climb steps. I use a ECV and I got around just fine. It is a beautiful hotel, with just a little inconvenience with the construction. You will have a great time.
I hope by August more screens will be down! Love the Villa pool!
The Villa Pool is very relaxing. Usually not very crowded either. No one uses the Hillside pool at all. It is very small.

Where do you recommend staying to be near the water taxi but not the construction/still have a nice view? As in a certain wing etc
