Kelvin's great at getting fish if you're near water. No worries about food with him around!! Edit: There's a small bunker that has a 3d printer that you can use to print a canteen, arrows, and other things. The printer materials are limited, but there are refills in the room.
how to get kevin to fish when near ocean?
yeah i found that 3d printer like 2 hours into the game. luckily had like maxed out printed cartridges.
use it to make tech stuff to make tech armor.
that will straight up save your life.
you can find printer resin randomly around the maps ( mostly in plastic bins)
Cool feature. If u put sticks in the ground(have them in hand look at ground) then put an axe in hand and look at stick u can chop it and make a leaning spike barrier. If u line a bunch up it'll help with base defense.
This was something that I found really cool, in the trailers you could see the enemies jumping/climbing over the walls, if you spike walls or sticks then they presumably won’t be able to climb them
Something else: DEFINITELY look at the controls/keybinds. You will certainly find a lot of interesting features and interactions that aren’t at all explained in the game.
i dont know if anyone else knows this but i waited in the helicopter for a bit and when it crashed it ended up in the mountains instead if the ocean

If you crash a bit before you crash inside the forest itself , it really depends on how long you look at the screen.

the lighter comes in the emergency bag with the axe and gps, be sure to open that bag asap, 2 sticks make a fire, 2 sticks makes a spear, rope can be found at cannabal villeges like the old game, cloth seems to be very limited this time around.

Nice vid dude, quick question. I'm a few hours in and I set up a camp and built a huge defensive wall right at the location where you end your video. How do I go about making the wall so Kelvin can get in and out but cannibals can't? I've made a spikey wall all the way around, but there doesn't seem to be a way to connect upright and sideways struts, so there's always a tiny gap between my defensive wall and door, which Kelvin gets stuck trying to walk through instead of just using the door.

its nice having a helpful and not annoying character. it really is beneficial for the game directors to not have to record voicelines and just have everyone mute
Assign items to quick menu by just highlighting in the inventory screen and clicking the relevant number key 1 to 0.
When in normal play mode hit the number key and the item will be equipped. Click G to put away as normal.
Also another tip. Just ask kelvin to build a fire. You don’t need him to gather sticks so you can build a fire yourself. Hope this helps
it wont let me scroll up or down in the kelvin note book. i cant tell him anything other than follow. ive tried mouse wheel, arrow keys, WASD

It's pretty easy. Make a square with logs and if you have a log, go to your square and you will normally see 2 arrows and if you left click then you will cut the log in half and make a piece of your floor.
Here is an amazing tip if your in a sticky situation if you hold down I instead of pressing it you open your back pack and you easily get to your axe lighter rocks sticks etc
Hold down the Inventory button to quickly bring up your backpack and switch items without opening the whole menu, I haven't been able to bind weapons to certain number keys yet though, hopefully that's a thing of at least will be soon
Yarrow and Arrowleaf plants are edible and very sustaining, they raise both thirst and hunger and are pretty easy to find in the forest near this spawn point, hold the pick up button to eat directly, quick tap to pick up and hold for later
Stick and cloth torch offers better light
Reloading at the spawn point occasionally resets the cargo crates offering you more items like the plane from the first The Forest
I just came from a cave and built a shelter so I can sleep since it’s night time and the woman creature is near is that why I can’t sleep?
This game needs some stars, its soooooooooo fucking dark at night.

As in tell him to build shelters (free tarp) or finish building structures for you as you feed him resources… or get him to get you fish (for the dryer and yourself)
His interaction is contextual to what you’re near.
Is there a way to cycle through weapons instead of having to open your Inventory all the time?
Yep! Took me a minute for figure it out but what you wanna do is locate your backpack in the inventory and the back pack acts as a more immersive quick select and you can switch between 2 weapons. Your axe and any sticks should be on the side of the backpack but you can remove anything from the backpack and replace it with your items of choice. To access the quick bag you’ll press Q and on controller you hold down on the d-pad and you’ll be able to see those weapons and not have to panic and go into your inventory anymore and risk dying haha. I thought you had to boil water and build some kind of cooking station for raw meat. From what I remember that's what you had to do in the first game. Thanks for the video. An in game tutorial would have been nice.

I remember having to use turtle shell to collect rain waterto drink in the forest. It seems any fresh water in sons of forest is fine to drink

you can equip your gps with M and your lighter with, i think L. also you don't need to have your lighter equipped to build and light a fire.
I have a question, how does saving work in a multiplayer lobby with 1 friend?
host saves the world, everyone saves their inventory
So a tarp isn’t the only way to save. The bed can also be used to save along with the hunting shelter.
hold C on a placed structure and it will dismantle it, also you can eat raw meat it just is better to cook it but their is no negatives like other games

I miss read that, I don't think the difficulty matters it probably just randomly picks one
The difficulty does not, however there are 3 starting locations, the snow, the river, and the beach. Each had their own intro cutscene so I highly recommend watching them all!
Depends on how long u interact with the laptop at the beginning. If you interact with it right away, you'll land at the beach. If u wait a lil bit and interact with it, you'll land at the river and if you wait all the way till the end to interact with it, you land in the snowy mountains
@@dustae It doesnt matter if you interact with the computer. The crash locations are random.

Tips? These are just basic mechanics you learn when playing the first hour of the game. Tips you should've mentioned is things such as looking up keybinds to find interesting features and interactions that aren’t explained in the game, the bunker with the 3D printer, C to pick things up, holding I to open quickslot menu, using sticks for spikes to help with base defense etc.
game is pretty janky still, but definitely has a lot of improvements over first game!
Bonus Tip!
You Only Need One Stick To Lift One Corner Of The Tarp To Save.
If You Dont Want To Use Two Sticks Or Put In Time To Put Up The Second Stick. It’s Only A Temp Shelter Anyway👍🏽

great and all but how in the world can I put a gate into a defence wall?
YOu have to make a doorway with logs going side to side stacked ontop of each other, then make pillars from the sides to it. Sadly though them cannibals can just walk right through the door.
@@brandonrutledge5679 the guide says that there is a way to make a gate that only you can open but for some reason it doesn’t work

Kill their leader and decapitate some cannibals... This should do. And when winter kicks in you wont even see them since their leader is dead they're in complete chaos

does anyone know if you put 2 different sized logs vertically on top of each other, and put any sized log besides it vertically.. it’ll bug out and give you an extra log. repeat it then you get unli logs

How do you mark things on your map?
There’s another gps locator and you can attach it to a stick that you place in the ground and it’ll show up on the map, not sure if there’s another way yet.
Just tap M for the GPS

One strange change I've noticed is small birds are no longer a food source. You don't get any meat from them.

I was completely lost for the first hour trying to figure everything out. So, thanks for the vid bud. Have you played any multiplayer yet? Looking forward to checking it out once I get a couple friends who have the game, lol.
How could you possibly not know this 10 stupid basic things. The game literally walks you trough making the first items the second u grab stuff. Also, if u played w kelvin for a minute you learn all his interactions. This video was utterly useless.

@@alphaone321 no they aren't. Go and watch several people play the game for the first time and watch their confusion until they figure it out. I watched several people spend 10 minutes just trying to figure out how to break sticks. The game doesn't tell you to look down at the ground.

it seems pretty obvious that making a stick bed from your book will allow you to sleep, and in basically ALL survival open world games you save when you sleep, or save where you sleep. either way it seems rather obvious to me. either bed, hunting shack, or actual bed.
off spawn you can build one.

Seems to me, you never played any of the 1st game.
No matter what I crash on the mountain. I'm not sure what causes beach vs. mountain spawn.
You need to wait for the interaction. So i read that if u interact early u crash in forest if u wait u crash in mountain.
Crash sites are random. There is nothing you can do to choose the crash site. Dont know why people are saying things like interact with the computer.

First of all, it’s an early access game. Of course an ai system as advanced(I’ll get to why its so unique in a second) is going to have plenty of issues. For an early access game or even a newly released game this would be quite impressive.
Ok, so to start off the ai is incredibly well developed. The way the enemies work is way more intricate than the first game, or many games Ive seen. There are many tribes of the cannibals and they interact with each other, the mutants, environment, and you in different ways.
The way you act can completely shift the balance between them, you can literally start tribe wars. You can scare them, entice them, bait them, do whatever you want.
They’re genuinely smart. They will retreat if their leaders are killed, or if too many of them are severely injured. They will observe you and test you, then run away and come back with more, they will slowly get more of them and push you into areas with hidden enemies that will surround you, and only attack when they have an advantage or are forced to attack.
This system is incredibly detailed, naturally in early access it’s going to have its fair share of problems, but outright saying it’s copying and pasting the ai from the first game is a a massive insult to the devs that spend years making this game.
The ai in the first game was also great, but SOTF easily has some of the most advanced methodical planning from ai that I’ve ever seen in gaming.
On to kelvin, a bit more straightforward . If you order him to drop logs near your base then he will usually cut down trees to fall in that direction. That’s probably why hes doing that. Sometimes it’s just random or whatever angle he needs to finish the tree, but usually he cuts them towards wherever you told him to

@@larz2388 Actually, i just found out it has to be river water and find a canteen? Just like IRL , you can't drink from the ocean and that's where i spawned. Gotta go find a river. =(
