Great too see this. Back in the 60's I attended many races at Mosport. I don't remember who's car it was, waking around in the paddock and there was a silver 904. Not a big Porsche fan but this car was the exception for me - one of my all time favorites.
Having seen this at Cobble Beach Concourse, it’s even better to see the video and hear more of the back story. Spectacular addition, with an epic pedigree.
I'm not a Porsche fan but what a fantastic time capsule you've found guys... after 52 years of single ownership! It looks like a hybrid of Ferrari 512 BB, 250 LM and Ford GT40, I love design like this. It sounds... insane, sound on! And... what blows my mind this car raced a thousands miles of endurance competition but never been crashed, it's completely original fiberglass body and chassis. We want and need a cars like this, thanks guys!
I had the privilege to see one race at a legends meeting a few years back in Cape Town. An elderly British gentleman drove it and he didn't hold back either. When it came down the main straight of Killarney you had to cover your ears every time the Porsche passed. It felt like your ear drums were literally being pierced.
The history of this car is amazing! Imagine getting out of multiple races undamaged specially from the 60's, call me superstitious but this is a lucky car.
Great timing! I just bought a Hot Wheel of the Porsche 904; I didn't know this car existed. To have Legendary Motorcar tell of the history of the car, and show it being driven was great! Looking forward to the next car you highlight.
Stunning - ist been one of my favourite cars ever since (and this is nearly 7 decades now) and I do do appreciate your smile actually driving this vehicle!
Greetings from Colorado! You guys have become Must C TV for me. Up there with Jay Leno and Harry Metcalfe. You've evolved so...nicely from your Dad's revolutionary TV shows to today. Thank you...
Nice video. Great opening segment with Peter. Well researched and informative and interesting. Legendary has built a tremendous reputation over the past 20. Bravo!
In Microsoft's Forza Motorsport 7 this car is an extra-expense purchase . It is absolutely the most nimble , fun car to drive out of hundreds . It kicks butt , leaving the rest in the dust . Thank you for all the information previously unknown , like the fiberglass body bonded to the frame .
In the late 1960’s my folks lived on the top of Palos Verdes Peninsula. The coast highway goes around the peninsula at beach level several hundred feet below. There was some guy with a 904 who would hit that beach road late on a Friday or Saturday night. The sound was unbelievable.
You can see the Cayman design heritage in this, just like you can see the original 1960s 911 in the modern version. Not a direct descendant, but definitely a distant relative. Very cool.
Sounds great for a four banger. The classic look is ageless for the 60s race car. Amazing how Porsche designed and build the engine for such reliability for racing. 82 hours at the "Ring!. Amazing stuff.
Did you see how big yhat Ferrari 250 LM was next to the little 904? But what a treat grunt from the 2.0 l. motor. But wait! A Porsche with the key to the RIGHT of the steering wheel?!
Great video, you can see how little the steering wheel moves to drive this car. The most it ever turns is approxamently 3/4 of a turn, never gets near lock to lock and there is no power steering and the driver lightly holds the wheel. A real drivers car!!
I think it's so great and so crazy we can get cars like the 250 testarossa, 904/906 or risk's, Gt40's, tipo 61's etc... road registered. It's a very very beautiful thing to be able to drive these on public roads with minimal adjustments. I can watch 50's-70's sports racers/prototypes all day long.❤❤❤
This is fantastic. The 904 has been one of my dream cars since I built a model of it as a teen. What I don't get is why the driver would spend seven full minutes behind the wheel giving us more history, when he has said how much he was looking forward to driving it. He should be talking about the ride, if anything. And letting us listen to it! But anyway - thanks!!
I likely built the same model kit as a teen . . . to get "a ride along" in one of my all-time favorite dream cars is a virtual dream come true. Exceptional video!!
Surprised to hear that you didn’t know to much about this model. These cars are super rare , super exclusive and very reliable. Not cheap for sure but going up in value over the next years. The next owner hopefully drives it from time to time. 😊😊😊
I have had a small metal model of this car on my desk for maybe 25 years. My dream car. I have owned 3 Porsches: 1964 356C Cabriolet, 2000 Carrera, 2004 Carrera 4S. Once saw a 904 up close at Gary Emory's shop in Oregon - owned by a Seattle tech gazillionaire who had pranged it at LeMans. Oh, how I would like to take one of those for a spin before my time runs out!!
Garry I think you should find out if they are still holding that really long race and see if you can enter this car in as a racer . Just a suggestion from an admirer of all yee do in the industry
You cant fake that smile. A cool story and a very cool car.I know that you raced Canadian Nascar but would you consider GT racing? Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Nice car I had a1976 911 targa and 1993 968 so fun to drive i used to dich work and go to the mountains in San Diego if you saw a green flash it probably was me lol.
Im really proud that a fellow Canuk has a worldwide rep for being one of the top 3 shops in the world for quality . . started in a small garage and now second to none . . you and your guys are awesome . . You must hire n train some eventualy some of the best people in the world at what u do . . your knowledge and your workers are the secret . . thank you for what you do . . poor guy here says Nice Cars ! ! lol . . BTY . . that start in a small garage thing makes me happy and proud . . your success feels like ours . . your kid is OK too . . good job dad . . LOL
ya wow! Beautiful. The only thing I can think of that is as beautiful as this is the Dino GT and Muira SV. I’ll take all please lol! Thank you very much. Love your channel.
One day in 1965 I saw a Porsche 904 GTS parked on the main street of La Jolla, So-Cali. I don't think that could happen today! If you want one today, bring north of $2 million!
Always loved these. I need a Beck 904. Btw, you showed a picture of Ferry not Ferdinand. Also pretty sure the new prototype regs were intended to make the cars more like GT cars (the class was called GT prototype - they were prototypes for road cars rather than pure sports racers).
Values are all over the map on these, with most fetching somewhere over a million. 1.2, 1.3, 1.6, 1.85 USD, Euros, Yen.... It doesn't seem to matter which currency. As the lads have pointed out, this is a car you either have to have or you don't. Somebody recently bought a 64 for six hundred and change. I imagine that was a fluke. Others have gone for 2.2, 2.3 mill? I'm guessing you bought it for at least half that. Still a tidy profit to be made. I have one question? Is there a difference between the 64 904 and the GTS model or is that just a moniker? I thought you guys would have added in the GTS if that was the original name? Michael from your home town, Milton Ontario. Not to be confused with that nasty storm that almost blew the roof off of my parents condo in Tampa Bay. Cheers. PS, to quote Ferris Bueller "If you have the means, I highly suggest you pick one up!".
Great video, but I have to correct something they said about it: I do need it! One thousand four hundred pounds!!! You can count on one hand how many cars today that weigh less than double that!
Mattel brought me here. They released a Hot Wheels version of this for 2024, and I had never heard of this model. Also, it doesn't look like a Porsche.
Few noticed that the pedals are hinged off the floor like early Porsches and VW’s. The 2.0 liter version of the Furmann Quad cam boxer 4 was nearing the end of racing development for this engine series. The next engine generation would add 2 more cylinders, with even more to come. The 904 was historically significant as the progenitor of a very long and successful line of racing automobiles. Key design criteria included low mass, low center of gravity, and powerplants emphasizing durability and longevity. In essence the Porsche plan of World dominance was refined with this series of giant killers.
I believe you could pick one of these up when new for around $7400 even in the mid to late 70's I saw the odd one in back of race car magazines or Road & Track for a pretty reasonable price. Hard to believe these can fetch over $4 million now but you can always dream what could have been if you had the funds and had forseen what these would have been worth in the distant future.
Ill be long gone before prices of vintage cars drops big time, its coming. 7400 was a chunk of change in 1974 but still affordable for a guy that was doing ok.
Robert Redford owned one for years. And are definitely unicorns. Terrific video. Incredible prototypes.
He's owned two.
I look forward to your weekly shows. Miss the TV show, but this is better.
Better? Not sure, but really enjoyable.
amazing all those races - zero damage....That's a very special car.
Great too see this. Back in the 60's I attended many races at Mosport. I don't remember who's car it was, waking around in the paddock and there was a silver 904. Not a big Porsche fan but this car was the exception for me - one of my all time favorites.
You can still get these in exact kit form, no not with a VW engine but a proper flat 6 Porsche engine. After watching this, I want one!
prefer the 4 cam to the b6 despite bad reliabilty and extreme high price of the 4 cam.
My favorite car of all-time. Breathtaking. Saved this video and thank you for highlighting it!
Having seen this at Cobble Beach Concourse, it’s even better to see the video and hear more of the back story. Spectacular addition, with an epic pedigree.
Aesthetics at it's finest..!! I was lucky to have seen it on the Nürburgring many times.
I'm not a Porsche fan but what a fantastic time capsule you've found guys... after 52 years of single ownership! What it looks like is the Dino Ferrari. Beautiful.

Still looking for one of the hot wheel 904 GTS. Very cool that they made this vintage race car!
Probably my favorite Porsche
That look and sound!!

My kid brother introduced me to the 904 early on. We have loved their looks ever since.
Wow. Looks incredible

I remember seeing at least 1 at the Santa Barbara Road Races in the late 60s!
Sounds great for a four banger. The classic look is ageless for the 60s race car. Amazing how Porsche designed and build the engine for such reliability for racing. 82 hours at the "Ring!. Amazing stuff.

Yes! I noticed that too!
Great story! That 2.0 sounds amazing! Does anyone recreate the 2.0? The 550 is my favorite early Porsche. The 904 is a close second!
Nice car, nice review, but no engine bay shot? 😢
Great video, you can see how little the steering wheel moves to drive this car. The most it ever turns is approxamently 3/4 of a turn, never gets near lock to lock and there is no power steering and the driver lightly holds the wheel. A real drivers car!!
That rear 3/4 view is awesome
Nice exhibition. Lovely car, lovely history.

What a beautiful car! Thanks for the video! 🙂
The first time that I heard of 904, what a stunning vintage Porsche, keep it as original as that’s where the beauty lies.
Just a Legend. What a find.
Wow, sweet video, great camera and edit work. Built the Monogram model back in 1965. I can still smell the glue...
Great video of a great piece of art
Beautiful and brilliantly designed.
To me it looks like Ferrari took this design for the Dino and BB384/BB512 series. Beautiful Porsche, I want it.
Revell had a 1:25 scale kit of this in thf 90's. Glorious kit really. It required a bit of fitment. But darn good
So so....... SPECIAL *. glorious sports car*
Beautiful car! Sounds fantastic!
❤ Une des plus belle Porsche ❤ jamais construite ❤Magnifique Merci beaucoup ❤
Not a word about or image of the engine! Does that car no longer have the Furmann four cam?
Twin plug six
That is an exotic body style for 2024. Unimaginably cool in 1964 !
I just got the Hotwheels of this car. Beautiful little car.
Very cool, neat historic and very significant car !
I'm not an early Porsche fan either, but that is beautiful.

Incredible find! One thing I always appreciate about your vids is current market value. Where does this one fall?
That driver "outed" himself with his Canadian accent. 😉 As one myself, I totally approve. You have a great channel.
Beauty, 'eh!
For those who have been watching Peter for decades, if you didn't know Gary is Peter's son, you would know Gary is Peter's son.
And, the kid is a legitimate race car pilot
Does he have genuine affection for the 904 or is he just pushing dad's inventory that finances his racing.
@@rickden8362 Legitimate question. I'd bet he appreciates the 904. He's a racer after all.
@@rickden8362 I wonder how this business is financed. Is it cash or leveraged?

Horse hair seats, sounds about right considering the origins of Stuttgart...
Beautiful 🔥🔥🔥
The 904 and 906 are the coolest Porsches ever (although the Speedster and 917 are great).

This is a kick ass machine!

This was their first. Also first mid-engine which I'm surprised they didn't mention.
Jerry Seinfeld, “hold my coffee!” ☕️ …SOLD! 😂
"he Buys this car"
Perhaps, he bought this car ?
Great car with too much Cool and Super usage !
Amazing!
I want to see this car and the Dino 206 make some "keep up if you can" chase laps at somewhere tight and twisty!
Great video, but I have to correct something they said about it: I do need it!
One thousand four hundred pounds!!! You can count on one hand how many cars today that weigh less than double that!
It looks like Speed Racer's Mach 5.
Bonded with epoxy. The GRP body was bonded/glued with epoxy resin.
I had acquaintance of mine back in early seventies that owned one of these. He lived in Atlanta.
Can Lummox has that? I wish more cars were made like that. It's all you really need.
Awesome!!! 👍😊👊💥
Classically gorgeous car stilll
I was hoping to see the Carrera engine. Nice vid.
Couldn't help notice the ignition/key were on the right side of the dash. Most Porsches had that set up on the left.
Killer, beautiful without a doubt.
Mattel brought me here. They released a Hot Wheels version of this for 2024, and I had never heard of this model. Also, it doesn't look like a Porsche.

nice shot of the engine bay🙄
Reminds me of a Lola 🇬🇧
😍😍😍😍😍 Gorgeous
And it’s air cooled,,, that what makes it cool!
These were in Coupes Des Alpes also I think
A few flat eight engined versions were made too.
When you say "found" that normally implies that something was lost.
Which this wasn't.
Walter Rohrl said that he wanted to drive a 904 or 906 in a classic race, something mechanical that you really have to drive.
Granted, an interesting video however, I feel it’s unworthy of monetization
