Sukuna uses dismantle on everything, regardless of cursed energy, cuz thats his default attack.. that rule u saw was only applicable to his domain. Cleave is specialized so he doesnt rlly use it often. In this fight he only used it during the domain.
40:10 my take is that somehow water got into mahoragas lungs and he then adapted to that, which allowed him to do the shit he did later in the swimming pool which is why that scene was shown to then setup that scene later
This video leaves a bitter sweet feeling. While watching the episode I gave up completely trying to follow the action and just enjoyed the ride. Episode 16 is like a completed big beautiful house, while episode 17 is a castle but incomplete with broken walls. (Sorry for this wierd comparison, only this came to my mind when I thought about these episodes)
It's so insane that episode 16 is being referred to as a house lol. It's still a top 5 best animated episode I've seen in TV anime. But compared to 17 it really is a house.
The "brokeness" of this episode was actually a strength, it felt surreal and omnipotent, as if thrown around by 2 godly beings such as sukuna and mahoraga. It was an amazingly directed episode in the end tbh.

When the world needed the most, Manko returned. Great analysis as always. I completely agree that it JJK season 2 episode 17 basically amounts to random well animated clips stuffed into an episode. Not only does the episode fail to follow the manga as the Jogo vs Sukuna fight did, it doesn't even hit its basic elements (Sukuna's intellect, the importance and function of the wheel, the Shrine revealed to be a physical shrine manifested into reality by Sukuna, etc). Things that are actually very important to the narrative! It is particularly strange coming off the Jogo fight where they hit ALL the elements of the manga. Most of this was likely do to over ambition and not completing signature scenes over random snippets of added content...which points to a problem in the allocation of resources. Sukuna's Shrine needed to get finished. The explanation of the wheel and its importance needed to be emphasized, and Sukuna's meticulous nature needed to be front and center. Instead we get random snippets of dialogue from Sukuna that are placed in random moments of the fight because the scenes where that dialogue belongs are completely missing in the final product. We get ANOTHER chaotic battle that doesn't reveal anything about Sukuna that the Jogo fight didn't already accomplish. There were also many stylistic choices like the song playing over Yuji's suffering that I simply did not agree with and actually weakened a later moment where Yuji recalls the massacre. There is a lot wrong with JJK season 2 episode 17.
If you wanted to know they had to fix it Crunchyroll made a mistake and messed up the translations for sukuna's techniques it's malevolent shrine, cleave, and dismantle. They even messed up maohraga's name and called it makora
looking back at this video, hearing you say that they probably wont finish those fade to black segments, i am soo glad that they did, weiling madafikng goat zhang

I think you're confusing some things. Anime industry as a whole is over production. Every anime needs hundreds of people. Almost every studio is doing more than they can even if they don't have The Resources. For Multiple reasons
This was such an entertaining watch!!! I’m SO SICK of uneducated morons calling this episode “bad animation” and you’ve made it clear HOW AMAZING the final product was despite the awful schedule :) I was also wondering where you get all of your information about the staff who worked on the episode, and the work schedule? I would love to do some research for myself on the production of JJK :)
Hey mankoman I'd love to see a video about an anime movie called jin-roh: the wolf brigade. To me the animation is absolutely crazy and almost seems to be all rotoscope
1:13:30 as a manga reader believe me that was perfect choice for anime watchers it makes complete sense to not like it saying gege wouldnt offscreen inumaki made me laugh way too hard than it should
If u want to know more about maho's broken technique and how was he able to defeat a limitless and six eyes user read this Mahoraga's technique is to adapt to anything and everything that means if he gets hit by a certain attack he will not only adapt to that attack he will also adapt to all of the similar technique (within a certain time limit as we see in sukuna vs maho) as we seen in case of sukuna mahoraga gets hit by dismantle but not only mahoraga adapt to dismantle but also adapted to sukuna's cleave that's why sukuna needed to use his fire arrow which is entirely different from those slicing techniques. That means if mahoraga gets hit by one of gojo's technique and survives he will adapt to all of his technique like blue, red, purple and his Domain as all of his techniques are by product of infinity unlike sukuna who has entirely two different types of technique one slicing and second fire 🔥.If sukuna didn't had any other technique other than slicing technique ,mahoraga would have survived. And mahoraga's healing and durability is no joke either also everything is still not revealed about maho so just wait and Just so u know Mahoraga is top of the food chain.
I'm couldn't be more excited for episode 17 blu ray. I'm really hoping they are given plenty of time to fix most of the problems with it and add a lot of cuts.
Im so glad that you not only break down the animations but also the editing/directing. Because I really thought I was the only one that was very confused with the flow of the action scenes this season. Beautiful animation but all the sequences together as a whole gave me the same feeling of confusion like those action sequences in manga. (where you kinda think you know whats going on?) Also, I felt like we truly didnt have enough time to get to know the main trio cast so the emotional moments didnt hit me as hard as they intended unfortunately - i feel like i know more about gojo, todo, mechamaru than yuji - feels like we barely even saw him in the show... Hopefully someone else also understands... 😅 Overall though, still insane production with iconic moments given how difficult it was for all the staff. 👍🏻 Excellent video as always Manko! It would be nice if you explained some terms you normally introduce briefly in your future videos about "melting" "schools" for newbies to sakuga like me lol.
When I said "school", I was literally just talking about the school building drawn by Vincent in that cut lol. As for melting, it's a bit more complex. When you make your fan animations, you of course have to make every single drawing yourself. In the anime industry however, animators make Key frames that define the important poses and movement that the in-between animators use as reference to complete the scene by adding more frames of animation. But when the schedule breaks to this level, the in-between frames either simply don't exist, or are largely inconsistent, resulting in the scene "melting". Usually seen in slow motion scenes because they require a large number of frames and the changes that occur between two drawings are very small.
it ruined the incredible VA acting tho the song is fine and fits later shots, but the beginning should've been instrumental. also japanese viewers' reception isn't superior to overseas, it's subjective and many overseas viewers like it. don't generalize
Thanks for making this video, while the episode was certainly the most ambitious as you pointed out, watching it felt messy throughout the whole episode, I definitely preferred other episodes over this episode because a lot of the animation in this one just didn't make sense. Granted Mahoraga is an important character in the manga that's currently way ahead of the anime, at the end of the day he's just a shikigami, not a real person, and IMO his importance to the story does not equate to the massive amount of effort and ambition that was pegged for this episode, as a manga reader, would've preferred if they were less ambitious on this episode and just tried to make a good episode that fit the story, looking back on the series, there's going to be this one outlier of an episode that sticks out like a sore thumb, but not necessarily for good reasons.
Unless the person knows RCT, an user of limitless and six eyes, though still being incredibly strong; will not be able to use red, or hollow purple. (Probably won't have a domain either. Almost all sorcerors with complete domain expansions have RCT. There might be a few exceptions I am forgetting). So it is possible for that user to lose to Mahoraga. I am beyond certain than teenager Gojo, the one that lost to Toji, would have lost to Mahoraga. So yes, maybe that is the reason why the Edo period clan leader lost to Mahoraga. Because current Gojo most definitely wouldn't (to Mahoraga alone).
Vincent’s style in that airplane cut was so similar to Weilin Zang’s that I mistook the cut for weilin zang until I watched this video. It looks exactly like some of weilin’s cuts in OP 1071 and in the Heavenly Delusions op
Thank you, finally. All of my friends thought I was crazy when I said this episode seemed so inconsistent and hard to follow. They just said it was a me problem. I really really wanted to love this episode, and yes, it looks beautiful in a lot of areas but it is just a shit show.
not really a shit show, most of the animation is actually really good. The problem is that a lot of scenes were not finished so they had to use weird transisions
The sukuna running on air part isn’t a mistake actually, sukuna can jump on air but it wasn’t really blatantly shown till later but you could see it earlier in the series
This episode felt very weird to me despite all the cuts of crazy animation (I mean Chansard and Zhang alone is wild let alone everyone else). Like you said there’s some shots that just have no continuity and it’s just a shame this couldn’t be delayed to get closer to the intended vision. The Itadori breakdown sequence with all the backgrounds showing while the OP plays just felt really odd as well in a not good way to me. Like you said I think if the OP didn’t just abruptly start with “YOU ARE MY SPECIAL” the song could’ve felt much more natural but I guess at the very least it spawned one of my favorite JJK memes

I think you're confusing some things. Anime industry as a whole is over production. Every anime needs hundreds of people. Almost every studio is doing more than they can even if they don't have The Resources. For Multiple reasons
@@A1000-b9s And how long you think this will last until the talent dies out.
@@catlike9444till a lot of studios go bankrupt
This was such an entertaining watch!!! I’m SO SICK of uneducated morons calling this episode “bad animation” and you’ve made it clear HOW AMAZING the final product was despite the awful schedule :) I was also wondering where you get all of your information about the staff who worked on the episode, and the work schedule? I would love to do some research for myself on the production of JJK :)
First! MANKOGOAT is back!
I've been waiting for this!!!
I have no experience with animation, but this video was amazing
Thank you for making this
U back❤❤❤
Hey mankoman I'd love to see a video about an anime movie called jin-roh: the wolf brigade. To me the animation is absolutely crazy and almost seems to be all rotoscope
1:13:49
“Help” nice.
Basically what I gathered from the episode is that it is both be BEST and WORST episode of jjk
1:13:30 as a manga reader believe me that was perfect choice
for anime watchers it makes complete sense to not like it
saying gege wouldnt offscreen inumaki made me laugh way too hard than it should
i also liked the way they used the song
Ok so I wasn’t tripping when I found these fights hard to follow 😆
55:30 Jesus Christ!!!!
If u want to know more about maho's broken technique and how was he able to defeat a limitless and six eyes user read this
Mahoraga's technique is to adapt to anything and everything that means if he gets hit by a certain attack he will not only adapt to that attack he will also adapt to all of the similar technique (within a certain time limit as we see in sukuna vs maho) as we seen in case of sukuna mahoraga gets hit by dismantle but not only mahoraga adapt to dismantle but also adapted to sukuna's cleave that's why sukuna needed to use his fire arrow which is entirely different from those slicing techniques.
Blu-rays usually won't change Something. Only polish it
Im so glad that you not only break down the animations but also the editing/directing. Because I really thought I was the only one that was very confused with the flow of the action scenes this season. Beautiful animation but all the sequences together as a whole gave me the same feeling of confusion like those action sequences in manga. (where you kinda think you know whats going on?)
Also, I felt like we truly didnt have enough time to get to know the main trio cast so the emotional moments didnt hit me as hard as they intended unfortunately - i feel like i know more about gojo, todo, mechamaru than yuji - feels like we barely even saw him in the show... Hopefully someone else also understands... 😅
Overall though, still insane production with iconic moments given how difficult it was for all the staff. 👍🏻
Excellent video as always Manko!
Miso choose the specials
"Everybody likes it"
I haven't seen a single Japanese who joked about this
Just overseas problem
What is the specials you are referring to?
it ruined the incredible VA acting tho
the song is fine and fits later shots, but the beginning should've been instrumental.
also japanese viewers' reception isn't superior to overseas, it's subjective and many overseas viewers like it. don't generalize
Let's goooo we got a new mankoman video.
Great analysis as always. Real shame about the schedule fucking up art.
1:07:36 great little detail there, I didn't notice it
Thanks for making this video, while the episode was certainly the most ambitious as you pointed out, watching it felt messy throughout the whole episode, I definitely preferred other episodes over this episode because a lot of the animation in this one just didn't make sense.
Do you think that the 17th episode will ever get redone or just finished to the point where it should have been? I feel as if we were robbed in a way.
Finally.
Thoughts on the Kung Fu Panda trailer?
Do it a second time now
Let's goo
the perfect counter....
Keep cooking brother!!!1
The Mappa staff genuinely make me sick
Vincent’s style in that airplane cut was so similar to Weilin Zang’s that I mistook the cut for weilin zang until I watched this video. It looks exactly like some of weilin’s cuts in OP 1071 and in the Heavenly Delusions op
The effects animation is an easy give away that it's by Vincent, but the smears are very similar to Weilin's.
@@-MankoMan bruh I couldn’t even see the effects with all the dimming and ghosting😭
The problem is that a lot of scenes were not finished so they had to use weird transisions
legend issss baaaaackkk!!!
21:09 aayein!!!!!?
Baingan!!!!!🤣
Chibi slander!? turn that up
I will never ever forgive mappa
