I didn't even think about the chainsaw rotation being hard to animate but you're absolutely right, if the character is still you only need to make 2-3 drawings and then do a loop but if he's moving you would need a new drawing for every single frame. This is one of the reasons I love watching your videos, you point out something obvious and I go Oh, yeah ... right, of course. Hahahaha. Keep up the good work looking forward to your thoughts on Mob Pcycho later this season.
The upcoming Mob Psycho s3 ep 8 (I believe this is the rumored 20k+ frames of animation episode) is foaming at the mouth to take the crown of best animated episode of the year; will just have to wait and see if it can actually do it. As good as my eyes with distinguishing animation, even I got fooled initially by the original chainsaw man pv being a CG head composite. It wasn't until I looked back at it about two weeks ago that I started to doubt it due noticing a smidge of linework appear on the head during the final zoom in. While the doubts were in the back of my head, I was still in the camp that it was a CG composite, but thanks to your vid, that doubt is gone. At this point, I've got the whole noticing 2d to 3d transitions down to a science (mostly). Tanaka is the fucking man, his adherence to anatomical detail and accentuating depths and grooves in facial expressions is fucking insane; and to have it be so consistent almost the entire episode no less; Tanaka delivered, and then some. Keep working hard Manko; your earnest dedication to this channel despite having to balance a job is an inspiration for me to nail that down for my UA-cam content going forward
So glad to hear you’re not just enjoying the animation, but the writing, humor and characters as well! The show only gets funnier and better from here so look forward to that. Excellent breakdown of a freaking beautiful episode
Another amazing video! All of your content is so addicting, the fact you're even finding time to deliver while having priorities irl is very impressive. I don't mind when they come but I am looking forward to the breakdowns of future CSM episodes alongside any other video ideas you have in mind.
If I had a nickel for everytime MankoMan said, "They didn't need to do that," I'd have a few, which isn't a lot, but it's amazing that it happened more than once.
Great analysis as usual, really helping me to see finer details and appreciate this adaptation even more. Expecting a 2-hour long analysis of episode 4 considering the amount of animation there.
Another question, do you think compositing is more important than animation? Because Good compositing and mediocre animation usually looks better than mediocre compositing and good animation???
yeah mediocre or bad compositing can break a scene, an example would be any fight in a forest in jjk season 1 since the cgi compositing is fucking awful.
I might just be dumb, but I still don’t really get why they couldn’t put 3d animated chains on the 2d saws, body and head. Surely there should be a way of doing it?
It's nearly impossible to put 3d chains on 2d saws. It's possible to have 3d elements with 2d bodies only when there's a specific and obvious attaching point. For eg., Dabi's Obi in demon slayer, which btw, we almost never get to see from the back because they'll have to show _HOW_ it is attached which will surely make it look janky. Denji's chains are running _along_ the saws. They can't just keep showing a side view of it, they'll have to use complex perspective shots too like shirtless Denji's entrance in this episode. They'll have to change the perspectives of the 3D saws frame-by-frame accordingly to how his arms and head are moving. At that point you've reached a level of difficulty that you might as well do the whole thing by hand.
29:34 what does “yutapon style” animation mean? I couldn’t find anything except for yutapon cubes 53:46 and then “yutapon timing”? Anyone care to elaborate i would appreciate
Literal definition of inke haath mai sone ka katora bhi dedo toh bhi bheek maangenge. You can't satisfy the fandom enough. People will find any and everything to hate or complain on
@@pcvl9637 I think so too. Weakest maybe for lacking the adrenaline but the animation is still as impressive to me. A lot of great character acting/animation.
Shaved MankoMan is possibly the most cursed thing I've ever seen...
With his channel name it doubles down on that aspect
I've never clicked on a UA-cam notification faster
36:00 A cool thing in this cut is that the background building also was bg 2d animated
Yo I missed it. Looks so fluid!

This video deserves more views, actually all your videos do. Love your content and hope you're doing well.
33:35 this is just crazy lmao
Bruh I didn't even remember I ever said this.

Episode 3 is such a great episode but man, the later episodes just takes that greatness to a higher level..
If I had a nickel for everytime MankoMan said, "They didn't need to do that," I'd have a few, which isn't a lot, but it's amazing that it happened more than once.
It's funny that you mentioned Tanaka being everywhere because I saw that he was the episode director for episode 8 of Magical Destroyers 😂
Hironori Tanaka is the true kid named finger
46:57 deji's broken figure.
My God, an hour-long analysis! It's midnight where I live, so I'll be watching that first thing in the morning lol.
In 56:16 you can see the bat devil blood flowing out and pooling on the ground then the bat devil slams on that blood causing it to rain blood
been waiting for your fire review....but ep 4 was crazyyyy

1:30 we all know you got the best smears ManKoMan
Let's goo I've been waiting for your video since the episode dropped last week
The legend is kon back! HELL YEAH!
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for.
Finally, I was waiting for so long.. thank you
My head hurts with how much effort they put into this episode
also 16:54 it's a tram lol
Incredible video, as always
I was waiting for this
when will heavens feel video be talked about

Yeah, I would much rather look at a still frame of Alicization than any episode of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer lmao
Damn my boy looking fresh
Imagine if AoT part 3 had a fraction of this quality. I'd die happy
YO MANKO UPLOADED
I know your ass from twitter 😭
new set lookin nice. and the one piece episodes that i think are the best of the year are 1015, 1017, 1033, if you ever wanna check them out.
42:00 (personal timestamp can ignore)
10:40 killed me 💀💀
I don't know why i saw Something like that coming 😂💀
Should've kept that moustache atleast 🗿
You were looking great in beard and moustache 🗿👽
Finally 😭😭
I might just be dumb, but I still don’t really get why they couldn’t put 3d animated chains on the 2d saws, body and head. Surely there should be a way of doing it?
I would personally prefer if they put a 2d shirt on the shirtless model (if possible). Btw, the ed got 2d rotating moving chainsaw
The 2.5d layering you were talking about in the beginning is called Parallax (I think).
I really appreciate your content. People as knowledgable about the animation industry as you are very rare.

That is fair enough. Thanks for clarifying 👍
Letss gooooo

He's referring to Yutaka Nakamura as Yutapon
You got the title wrong brother
Thanks for letting me know!
Episode 4 is better imo
Imo its also way better
Also ep 5 is really looks nice
Undeniable, but I guess he recorded the video before watching it

hello
Best OP choice would have been SiM's Devil in your heart. The chaotic nature of the song was made to be chainsaw man's OP.
Episode 5 was the weakest one by comparison - even though it still had plenty of great moments- , but Shuu Hiromatsu killed it with the ED
I think ep 5 slightly better than 2, but still saying its the worse for me its atleast a 9/10
