Wow, that's a really early Passat, and a saloon as well. There weren't many of them sold in the UK as Volkswagen had a bit of an image problem in the early/mid '70s. The fact that they weren't desirable on the second-hand market and therefore were cheap, combined with a propensity to rot like a lot of German cars from the early '70s mean very few lasted to 20 years old, so this one is a real rarity and a real survivor as it certainly looks very original. If it's been restored then whoever did it did a fantastic job...
To see one of these now would be more of a head-turner than a Beetle of the same vintage I reckon. The 'Moss Security' badges are very nostalgic too :)
Had a '79 B1 as my first car. It was a and served me well for a number of years until eventually the rust claimed it. Rarely see them now. Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful find, i remember these Passats were very popular cars during the early eighties with good build quality and reliability, so nice to see a surviving early Passat. At that price it won't hang around.
That is gorgeous... back in '79 at my first job in Camden, London - one of the bosses had a yellow one and occasionally ran errands in it, even in London traffic a real treat. I had an R16 at the time which I loved, but the Passat seemed so modern by comparison and I lived the short-throw gearbox. (Mrs Eunice Swift sounds like Jane Austen character...!)
I work for Bristol Street Motors, and it's really cool to see a car we sold over 40 years ago still in such great condition with the original dealer sticker.
Watching this as I'm hankering after its predecessor, the K70 - the very 1st water cooled VW. I wonder if the same engineers worked on the Passat? Or were the former NSU design engineers overlooked?
Bristol Street Motors Nottingham Volkswagen? I wonder if that's one of the two current Vertu Volkswagen branches in Nottingham, which are part of the same group as Bristol Street?
KGF, how do you bear parting with all these beautiful cars you manage to source? Business aside, I suspect you must be car enthusiasts, or else you would not be selling the wonderful types of cars that you do.
Nostalgia 😭
My Dad's first car, was really cool to have this back in the days
Indeed!
Thanks for all the positive comments on our lovely Passat!

Much better car than the shoddy rubbish British Leyland were producing at the time.
Yes a better built car than its competitors!
