The most incredible Rover 213 SD3 with only 5,724 miles and show awards.
EQUIPMENT
Body colour grille/bumpers/door handles, homofocal headlamps, twin door mirrors, flush wheel covers, rake adjustable steering wheel, illuminated switches heater controls and glovebox, coin tray, 4-speed heater fan, heated rear window, twin-tone horn, water temperature gauge, digital clock, swivelling sunvisors with drivers docket pocket and passenger mirror, rear seatbelts, remote boot release, stereo radio/cassette with six-speaker music system. Dealer Accessories; Rover rubber floor mats, security window etching, Rover ice scraper, lambswool seat covers, Panama hats.
EXTERIOR
This truly unique Rover 213 is finished in delightfully period Sandalwood, (Code SMC), and oozes warm charm in a condition worthy of the accolades achieved on the show circuit. Having covered a remarkably miniscule 5,724 miles from new the condition throughout is splendid. Wheel arch apertures and the underside are beautifully clean and structural integrity is assured thanks to careful indoor storage. A tiny mark on the drivers rear door and slight ageing to the Rover bonnet badge are barely worth mentioning. All supplying dealer branding is still attached including front and rear number plates, rear window sticker and tax disc holder! The homofocal headlamps are crystal clear and all rubbers, glass and trim is perfect. A regular member of the Top 10 best-selling cars in the home market this now virtually extinct Rover is truly nostalgic.
INTERIOR
Matching Sonor Marle cloth seat facings finished in Beige, (Code ANJ), are pristine with the fronts protected by period lambswool covers. Comfortable reclining front seats with a rake adjustable steering wheel allow the driver to find the perfect driving position in civilised levels of luxury appointment. The wraparound centre console, colour-keyed seatbelts, carpets, padded facia, door trim and soft feel 3-spoke steering wheel are finished in immaculate Chocolate Brown. The often troublesome headlining is fully intact and all carpeting is protected by genuine Rover rubber floor mats. The Rover rubber tray insert is present and beer towels are neatly folded in the glove box ready to place on top of the dash on warm sunny show days! The boot area is immaculate and all functions and controls operate perfectly including the stereo cassette.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Tokyo-developed all alloy crossflow 12-valve power is one of the jewels in the Austin Rover/BL/BMC car range and the specifications of the 1342cc power unit fitted in this Rover 213 are desirable. A whisper quiet 70bhp with excellent fuel economy and reliability is a joy. The engine bay is immaculate and displays factory stickers, labels and bulkhead VIN stamp. Gear changes via the 5-speed manual box are light and precise, affirming once more the cars ultra-low mileage credentials and pampered existence.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory 13in steel wheels wear the original and correct full width wheel trims which remain as new with no damage. There is plenty of tread remaining on the period Dunlop 155S SR13 steel belted radial tyres but renewal prior to regular use would be a wise precaution simply due to age. The jack and wheel brace remain in the polystyrene holder. Diagonally split and dual-circuit servo assisted brakes offer assured straight-line stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on the 1st June 1988 to Miss Hester Estella, a retired headmistress who taught at schools in the West Midlands and Wolverhampton. The history file contains an article from the Mail Online who report she unfortunely died at 90 after burglars trick their way into her home in 2012. According to Bridgnorth-based Perry & Phillips, a firm of auctioneers who sold the car as part of the deceased owners estate, it was serviced and MOT’d every year with the annual mileage nothing more than one return trip to the main dealer! Since this point, the car has been enthusiast owned attending numerous shows and winning awards such as the Best Rover 200/400 at the British Leyland Autumn Rally and Best Modern Rover. Handbooks, owners manuals, previous registration documents, spare keys and even Trilby Panama hats for show days are included! One for the Rover collector and avid enthusiast to preserve and treasure.
MOT April 2024, HPI Clear.
It's the hats on the rear parcel shelf for me that sell it! Loving the Hearing aid biege too
Hats are included a no extra charge. We will also not include the hats at no extra charge if you prefer....
From the furry seat covers to the parcel shelf straw hats it's clear that this car was owned by a true gentleman who valued and appreciated it. Great find. 👌
Thank you!
Perfect for the Festival of the Unexceptional .
In with a chance we reckon!
I just picked up a 93’ rover 216 with 56k on the clock. I never expected to be interested in rovers but now I own one they are special!
The R8 Rover's are superb cars!
“Richard! Turn round, dear!”
Mind the cyclist Richard. Richard; Minding the cyclist dear.
Incredible condition! I had no idea that they were available in such a low spec, not even a rev counter on this example! It's a shame these didn't sell better on the continent, the car certainly had deserved it.
Hyacinth would deem it uncouth to know what ones engine is revving at.....
@@KGFClassicCars LOL😆
Remarkably well preserved but who'd want one of those?
I think virtually everyone does, surely?
Wow this is rare. I used to sell these new. Going by the colour - Rattan beige - this car must be a phase 1 from approx 84 - 86. The later Sandalwood beige was, to my eyes, much nicer. Originally it would have been sold with no wheel trims and the seat fabric was the same as that in the base Metro, Maestro and Montego. The stereo was originally a push button radio. Incidentally, the front seats are identical to those in the face-lifted Metro from iirc the 86 model year. This is a gem for someone.
In the description it says it's Sandalwood and was registered in June 1988 so must be an "E" plate car. The earlier cars didn't have the reverse lights either IIRC; this is nice though!
You have a great memory!
@@turquoisecat761 the lighting threw me it seems. Actually i think the centre console might be a post 85 addition. Either way its a proper time warp piece and very rare.
In South Africa, they were sold as a Honda Balade, the main difference being the front end. Interior, engine, and the rest look the same . Undercover Japanese Rover. One English car that will probably never leak oil.
Correct!
Looks like a 1986 Honda Civic Sedan from the outside. I remember the time when my dad drives this car growing up in Canada.
Yes in Europe the Honda and the rover were practically the same car
Based on the Honda Ballade
Amazing find! I don’t know why a love seeing cars like this more than much more exotic or expensive makes!
Just needs Richard and Hyacinth Bucket go for a drive!!
"It's pronounced Bouquet"
Hyacinth will thank you for the correction
Damn! I didn't know I wanted a Rover SD3 until now. But now I desperately want one!
Its available Richard!
Beautiful. But so forgotten! I can remember these and the 216 variant. However, they are not that memorable, despite the bootlid spoiler.
Thank you
The first time Rover and incredible have been used 8n the same sentence. True.
Well we are trailblazers
Its the bucket mobile....did I spell bucket wrong? 😁
Richard!!! Lol.
Transportation for a candlelit supper. 🤣
Spelt correct, it's the pronunciation you need to work on dear!
Could just imagine if Keeping Up Appearances was still on, Hyacinth would be getting Richards' cheque book out, claiming the modern replacement car isn't of the same class or sophistication 😂
Thank you for sharing!
Is that Richard’s hat on the back shelf?
It was, and it could now be yours!
That car is lovely especially in oatmeal cream
Lovely!
Best car I ever had.
Great cars!
So much of an era! In the days of straight edges!
Pass me the ruler!
Fantastic
Thank you
very nice Ronda
I see what you did there, or Hover?
I had 2 213S (D & E reg) in a row, around the late 90’s, good cars with Honda engines.
Very true!
What an awesome car!
I wish they made cars like this nowadays instead of iPads on wheels.
Indeed!
And the Bouquet's even threw in their hats on the back window..
Richard!!!!
Very nice and left field. A driving school local to me used two of these in circa 1986. The view count for this video will exceed most of the videos from the last few months in no time! A girlfriend had a white one around 1995, it was a higher spec with wood and leather, prob a VP!
Thank you very much!
My cousin's grandad had the pre facelift 213 and loved the Honda engine it had because it never went wrong. They have a strange exhaust system as it has 2 backboxes but one tailpipe.
Yes the exhaust system is quite unusual!
Wonderful….. so you should remove the front seat covers …..let’s see its original splendour!
Here you go Mike, plenty of photos here including the seats www.flickr.com/photos/kgfclassiccars/albums/72177720307307838

Only a small glimpse underneath the covers!
On my wish list 😍😎😍
Really. Maybe have a little more ambition?
A 216 you mean?
Wishes can come true!
I had a 1986 213S
Despite the Honda engine it was a truly dreadful car.
Oh that's just mean
@@KGFClassicCars Sorry 😳
OMG it’s beige as well. 🤣
Inside and out!
The story about the original owner is extremely sad 😣
Indeed it is, very sad.
Its even in original old man hearing device color
Indeed!
"Homofocal Headlamps"... ... ... Oh, Suit You Sir.
Suit you!!!
I had the vitesse version, absolute rustbucket
Makes this one even more incredible, no rust whatsoever!
Rebatch version of Honda Ballade.
All the better for it too!
Has their ever been a more beige car?
I have just checked and indeed there has not.
Time warp lol. Fleecy seat covers. Still a poxy rover though although rare as hell now
Honda engineered with a Honda engine and widely regarded as superior to a lot of the mainstream competition at the time. Or a poxy Rover as you say.
@@KGFClassicCars oh dear think I hit a nerve there didn't I. Sorry not that much of a nerd to know about the engine. Still over priced. I've seen some excellent cars at auctions for the same price. You have some good rare cars but they are overpriced in my opinion
@@bbargain7547 Not at all, we enjoy all comments positive or negative.
old mans car ? with seat covers
Well observed
no rev counter :(
Hyacinth would deem it uncouth to know what ones engine is revving at.....
Did a truck load come in.
No, just this one
Nice I love the colour….make a nice hot rod 😂 only joking …lovely car👍
A different hot-rod I guess!
Well if I wanted to sit on something I wouldn't do it on this. Someone else already did it.
Ok
From an foreigner point of view, I see nothing but Honda lines
It’s a Honda ballade with a gen 3 civic engine
@@GadgetMart and more upmarket interior and better suspension
@@starfox_wr-45e93 softer suspension.
It was a poor car, my previous car was a triumph acclaim essentially the sane formula but 100% better
@@GadgetMart I read honda used the rover suspension going forward on the ballade, so there's that. Plus all the road reviews of the time were in rovers favour..
So you owned the triumph and the SD3?
Essentially they were both designed by the same people and built by the same people. I'd love to know what made one "100% better"?
I have only experience of the SD3
@@starfox_wr-45e93 i owned a triumph acclaim HL 1335cc twin carb
Tiny interior but nice drive
Then the 1986 213s 1342cc 12v
Interior quality was way above Ford at the time. Much later I owned an Orion and there was utterly no competition.
The rover was dreadful to drive despite the lusty (but small) engine.
After that I bought a gen 2 prelude. That was magnificent
