Maybe the explosive penetration isn't as much as expected because of the inverse square law and the distance of the tnt from the target due to the size of the shell? It could also be due to shell wall thickness, and the fact the fuze is at the front as opposed to being a base fuze projectile. Even though it is not besh, it should act somewhat like it. 1:23 "Sturmmörser" is a realistic contraction of the official designation "Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38 cm RW 61". "Sturmtiger" is a name likely created by soldiers.
The SC250 bomb has a "radius of the destruction of armored vehicles" of 7 meters. Logically, if this shell (which has similar amounts of explosive) hits within 7 meters of a target, it should grant "hull break". I think that perhaps War Thunder's current usage of HE doesn't work that way though, so they had better make some adjustments so the vehicle is a bit more usable due to splash damage, not just to light vehicles. We already have the Brummbar/sturmpanzer to do that job.
hullbreak is gone, its overpressure now. Even bombs seem a bit wonky recently though, i've landed 1000kg bombs next to the tracks of tanks and only detracked them. I've also been bombed with the bomb landing right next to me and yellowing my tracks. So maybe explosions are just a bit fucky at the moment.
@@CrazyDutchguys Hull break occasionally still appears. It occurs when the vehicle's structure is destroyed, usually on light vehicles including torpedo boats and milk trucks, but when the crew was somehow unharmed. It's rare, but sometimes still happens. Also, yes, the 1000kg bomb hitting a tank and not destroying it happens with heavier tanks quite often. However, War Thunder only is counting this shell doing damage if it directly hits the tank, not if it lands in the vicinity like it should.
Fun fact, the Sturmtiger needed to stop and open up the back hatch and use the loading crane in order to load the entire thing. The dev blog picture show cased it using it, heheh.
Didn't it also take like 7 minutes to reload in real life? 😅 52 seconds is definitely an acceptable break from reality to get this Mother of all Derps in the game. 🤣

1:43 "what can they not ad?" The Karl Gerät Mortar would probably be it. The several minute long reload and the animation fror the crew, crane, shell, shell carrage and more it would be an increadible amount of work but it would be hilarious to only fire like 3 2000kg shels in a match
Knowing gajin, it would be 50 sec reload with an aced crew. And people would complain about the blast radius and penetration after it gets the magic reload.
Stood beside the actual Tank in the German Tank Museum in Munster, Germany. It's absolutely mind blowing. The proportions of this thing. Not to mention the size of the rocket they have on display infront of it.
*The 38 cm HE rocket should penetrate 640 mm of steel* I did the math with my Dad, we determined based off of values already existing in war thunder what the explosive power of the HE shell should be. Here’s how we determined it. Roughly, 20 kg of Amatol is equivalent to 30 kg of TNT in explosive power. 8.6 Kg of Amatol (15 cm Sturmpanzer) Penetrates 61mm of Steel In-game There is 135 kg of TNT in the 38 cm rocket (8.6)(3/2)TNT = Penetrates 61 mm 12.9 kg TNT Penetrates 61 mm (135)(61)=(12.9)(x) 8235/12.9 = X X = 638.372093 There are many factors that aren’t taken into account in this equation, however applying existing values from in-game using the sturmpanzer II, we can get a somewhat accurate value for what the real damage for the 38 cm rocket should be.
Oh, damn, this could even easily kill modern MBTs if managing to land a direct or close enough hit, which is expected if we look at that caliber, shit in the end only a crater and some scrap metal is what would remain of the poor sod

Ground RB will be chaos with teams full of this in 2 days
Dream tank come true WHAT A LEGEND
8:53 its like the old call of duty day where you would cross map noob tube right at the start XD
geez look how far that test t34 turret went
"They can add incendiary bombs"
Gaijin watching :
"Oh yeah that sounds like a good idea"
‘Let’s make them do nothing for a few months first though, just to try it out’
Fun fact, the Sturmtiger needed to stop and open up the back hatch and use the loading crane in order to load the entire thing. The dev blog picture show cased it using it, heheh.
Apparently the loading crane was just to load the tank with more ammo
Didn't it also take like 7 minutes to reload in real life? 😅
52 seconds is definitely an acceptable break from reality to get this Mother of all Derps in the game. 🤣
@@jmarttal and it's thankfully premium which means you can actually earn in it and have fun.
@@jmarttal another video I watched claimed the rate of fire was 4 shots an hour 😬.
8:58 dude that shot was pure 👌
I’m pretty sure there’s no way I can acquire this thing unless it goes up as a premium tank. Which is a real shame because it’s like my favorite tank. Good music choice on the intro. It’s very Sturm Tiger 👍
you can actually buy all the stages you missed. You only need 6 out of 7 decals so its 6x999 GE which is 5994 GE for this vehicle. I managed to get 3 done by playing since I was sick and didn't had to work. Will buy the remaining 3 decals.
Worth the money for such an Iconic vehicle imo
this is definitely something that you could just sit behind cover and indirect fire on your enemies
Hey Phly! Since you made the awesome Sturmtiger video, could you also maybe do one on the event for it? The "Imminent Breakthrough"?
This on discord with a friend that has a drone in 9.0 is going to be clubbing BMP:s… finally
Love the content Phly, keep it up!
Combo time, non premium P61 black widow and m4a2.
Attempt 91
1:43 "what can they not ad?"
The Karl Gerät Mortar would probably be it.
The several minute long reload and the animation fror the crew, crane, shell, shell carrage and more it would be an increadible amount of work but it would be hilarious to only fire like 3 2000kg shels in a match
What caliber is the Karl again I forgot
Knowing gajin, it would be 50 sec reload with an aced crew. And people would complain about the blast radius and penetration after it gets the magic reload.
Stood beside the actual Tank in the German Tank Museum in Munster, Germany. It's absolutely mind blowing. The proportions of this thing. Not to mention the size of the rocket they have on display infront of it.
Like wow at 9:05 I was impressed seeing you do a spawn kill that’s like 1 in a 1000
2:02 a little MWII upload as well, Phly?
The other Sturmtiger at 8:53 is MikeGoesBoom
You can see his name and Phly's in the replay
Most wholesome Woo I've ever heard. So glad your back Phly, we missed you!
Range with binoculars then you don't have to worry about depression
20:07 "That's definitely one-seven-" *smashes desk*
*The 38 cm HE rocket should penetrate 640 mm of steel*
I did the math with my Dad, we determined based off of values already existing in war thunder what the explosive power of the HE shell should be.
Here’s how we determined it.
Roughly, 20 kg of Amatol is equivalent to 30 kg of TNT in explosive power.
8.6 Kg of Amatol (15 cm Sturmpanzer) Penetrates 61mm of Steel In-game
There is 135 kg of TNT in the 38 cm rocket
(8.6)(3/2)TNT = Penetrates 61 mm
12.9 kg TNT Penetrates 61 mm
(135)(61)=(12.9)(x)
8235/12.9 = X
X = 638.372093
There are many factors that aren’t taken into account in this equation, however applying existing values from in-game using the sturmpanzer II, we can get a somewhat accurate value for what the real damage for the 38 cm rocket should be.
Oh, damn, this could even easily kill modern MBTs if managing to land a direct or close enough hit, which is expected if we look at that caliber, shit in the end only a crater and some scrap metal is what would remain of the poor sod
@@K_Balu You’re basically firing a bomb. To get an idea of the damage this thing should do, look for PhlyDaily’s video on the community workshop mission for the sturmtiger. It overpressures a chieftain after it landed 30 yards away.
23:56 it’s funny how both the friendly and the enemy were using you as cover when you were alive
So funny seeing this tank played right (or rather wrong.) I've seen so many other people trying to precision aim, finding a good camping spot, or refusing to take long distance shots and then complaining its a terrible tank. Forget aiming, this is a meme tank, you NEED to take meme shots
Same people crying that the AVRE is bad while i'm over here sending a Maus to the shadow realm from 1200m in one hit
I love that I was literally thinking "it'd be funny af if you shot a rocket and it hit a tank on the other side of the map." 1 second later "OOOOOHHHHH IVE NEVER DONE THAT!!!! WOW!!!"
bro making history with that highlight 8:53
Enemy team: "he's hacking" :))
This intro music gives me Krieg Marching vibes
I think one of the funniest Skyrim transitions I've ever seen is the one where you were dogfighting someone whose leaking oil eventually covered your entire screen.
Oh, and speaking of memes. Holy sh*t! What, a, shot!
I would be mad asf, and laphing my butt oph if I were the m41a1😂😂😂
8:58
9:09 nice shot phly, god damn...
The videos! Content is at its peak! Welcome back Steve!
that was the greatest shot of all time
Holy shit the cross the map tomahawk everyone wished for but no one expected
So glad to have you back Phly! That cross map deletion of the Walker Bulldog was absolutely incredible!
