Despite the poor quality of the video at first, this was a moving performance by Neil Diamond. I have commented in a previous post about this World Tour by Neil. I am disappointed by the lack of response to these emotional contributions by Neil. 'Be' and 'Lonely Looking Sky' are two of my favourite songs. They encapsulate the inner sense which moves us towards a spiritual search in our lives. Thank you, Lesley.
It's nice to find recent footage of Diamond performing the JLS songs, which he has rarely performed -- most likely because of the legal issues involved. When the movie was released in 1973, Diamond made an agreement with director Hall Bartlett that the first million dollars grossed by the soundtrack would be Diamond's money to keep, but any profits generated afterwards would have to be split by Diamond and Bartlett 50/50. After Bartlett died in 1993, his estate took over the music rights, and they have held a tight grip on them ever since. So whenever Diamond makes money off the JLS music, a big chunk of that money goes to Paramount, who in turn has to pay Richard Bach's ex-wife Leslie Parrish (who inherited those rights during her divorce from Richard), and Parrish in turn has to then pay Hall Bartlett's estate. The whole thing has been a copyright nightmare for 50 years.
