    Another Great video Clay, I have never used a Matco ratchet (I've never even been on a Matco Truck before) but something that you didn't mention ( something I have discovered) is that size matters between brands. I like my Snap-On best in 3/8, but I like my Mac best in 1/4 (but maybe that's just my experience and how I use them) . .. . . and as an electrician I don't use much 1/2 stuff (since I rarely use 1/2, so really can't comment on 1/2)

I own the same matco as you in the green and a stubby in the non-locking as my dealer was out of the locking in the stubby when I needed to replace the one I lost. Both of these do a great job for me. I also have a Snap On non flex in 18 for those situations that I need the leverage, it has a small head like the matco's. There are new gearwrench 90 tooth locking flex head ratchets coming out. They look eerily similar to the matco ones.

      That’s the only ratchet I don’t own I think. I have a bunch of Carlyle tools just not their ratchets. Our store doesn’t have many to choose from, no locking flex heads at all and i don’t remember even seeing a flex head there ?

    • @bobbygarrett9588
      @bobbygarrett9588 4 роки тому +2

      Koon Trucking They make both, non locking and locking flex head. The locking versions I own are similar to the MAC, no true flex ability. I ordered the majority of my Carlyle ratchets off of Napa Prolink, and had most of them delivered to my shop the same day. Thanks Again Clay.

      Bobby Garrett I’ve become a fan of Carlyle tools as well. One of their ratchets I have is the bent-handle, non-locking, flex-head. Unfortunately, I have had the ratchet head move when I attempted to exert some pressure on it. That makes me want the locking flex-head now. The ratchet mechanism is smooth and the comfort grip handle feels good. The ratchet mechanism may be considered “old-fashion” because it’s a 72-tooth design, but it doesn’t bother me and I never gave it any thought when I use it. Maybe Carlyle will offer a locking flex-head in their new 90-tooth design ratchets. The profile of the ratchet head on the Carlyle flex-head ratchets appears smaller. I can’t find the measurements to substantiate it. So, if any of y’all have found them let me know.

    I tighten down the hex head bolt on most of all mine. And there super tight. So now I have a stronger and basically a locking head. I prefer the flex heads way more. Just not a locking fan. Snap on I have a channel lock torx screwdriver I put a stubby wrench in the handle and I've tightened it up on both so well it's super nice. Also I can say from Snap on it was more floppy then Mac. I love all my Mac axis 90tooth. Have a bunch.

    One nice thing about the non-locking Mac is it really holds its position well. It has the outer ears of the flex joint on the head and that seems to help. But after trying out that locking feature, I was surprised how much I liked it.

      I tighten mine down super tight so its,basically a locking with all the motion a flex head gives. I like the reg flex heads as there stronger and the connection ears on each side of the flex head on my favorite #Mac are fatter then those on the locking one..

    The only higher end ratchets I own are Gearwrench. To me they are on the higher end but probably not the tool truck guys. I own all 3 flex head 120xp's ratchets and I own all 3 of the 84 tooth locking flex head ratchets. So far they have treated me good. Even though the 120xp flex head ratchet is not a true locking ratchet, they still have a pretty strong detente flex head. It does take a little bit of force to move the head. I still love the true locking flex head ratchets.

    I love the feel of the Mac ratchet but I did have issues with almost all of mine where the face plate bolts that hold the internals in would shear off after about a year of use requiring a head replacement. I hope that Mac makes a full comeback with better stocked trucks and I will be sold on them for the foreseeable future as far as serviceability and replacement goes!

    • @KoonTrucking

    I have snap-on and matco, I prefer my snap on, I’m a small man working in a diesel shop, so I completely trust my 1/2” flex head snappy with a 4 foot pipe on it. Removing head bolts, I’ve never had the ratchet pawls slip even with a pipe on the end of her. I love the matco as well for its slim design, it’s a little lighter than my snap on, and no questions asked warranty.
