      Hello, I have been doing research and information on begginer violin's. Mendini, cecilio, center DC strad. I have found for my experience and wanting to learn the violin on my own. The Mendini MV 300 sounds like a great starter for the price, and sound and pitch. Not scratchy and pretty smooth.
      Please let me know if your honest opinion and also direction to take on learning.
      Thank you for your time and videos.

      It is not junk, but the 400 and 500 comparison done in another video had fewer issues. My assumption is this was borrowed from a local shop to demo and the setup is right nd checked.

    I actually just bought one of these, it came in the mail about two days ago and I was quite uneasy about the price, I was reading that most 300$ violins where crap, and this was only 60$ I was quite impressed at the sound, this is my first violin though, so I guess I don't have much room to know how well it sounds, but it made me feel allot better about my choice after watching this, a professional as yourself, saying that it is a GOOD violin. Thanks for making the review :)

    Thanks for having the courage to say that a cheap violin can be okay for a beginner on a budget. It seems a lot of other string players are convinced that not only will a cheap fiddle not be suitable for a beginner but will actually cause their fingers to rot and their breath to stink ;) I certainly get that a better axe will cost mo' money and one will want to trade up in time , but I, for example, live in Podunk Buttcrust and there is not a luthier or instrument rental outfit nearer than a 2-hour drive and I do not have $500-$1k to plunk down. I'm looking to get started on viola, and I'm relying on the generosity of my dad for a low-price one for Christmas. But I'd rather start somewhere than not start at all. I just need a fiddle that will not scream like am angry cat or fall apart at a glance. Anyways, thanks for your informative review and for giving us po' folks permission to play with big toys :)

      Is it not sad that there are those who would look down their noses at people trying to bring a little bit of the rich world to themselves. I purchased the MV300 and it is a wonderful instrument. Wonderful for someone who is desperate to start with the understanding that to start out crappy is better than to never start at all. Go you!!

    For many years I wanted to play Violin but wasn't sure if I would like it. After watching this video I decided to purchase this Violin. I have had it for about 3 weeks now and it has been perfect for me! Thank you so much for giving a spot on review of the Violin. Additionally I have been watching her "How to Learn the Violin" tutorials and am up to Lesson 6 and they are absolutely wonderful. I am learning faster then I thought I could.

      +Edward Sevret i have an full wood, rosewood violin with beautiful flame, that i found used, hand built from 1984 for $50. there are options. i doubt this violin she has is hide glue constructed, and that's a must for violins. also, i bought an 85$ chinese bow. it is easier to play with than the 750$ bows they had. never be fooled by price.

    First, Allison, I thank you for your guide. I recently bought the Mendini MV300 for $54 US, and for someone who has never touched a violin EVER, I found it easy to tune, and play. I was expecting to hear more "cat-scratchy" sounds, but the ease of handling the violin, and bow only gave me confidence. The contact between the bow and violin was not abrasive at all; it shockingly made smooth sounds for me. I'm really really shocked; and motivated at the same time; as a LEFT HANDED PERSON, I can play my RIGHT HANDED VIOLIN with confidence. Thanks for all your instructions, thus far.

    Just got my MV300. Really really good! Thanks for recommending them! We have 4 beginner bows in the house, and the one I got with it is the best of them all. Only weighs 59.5 grams holy cow and plays and sounds the best, way less bouncy at the frog end; also it's straight-grained and has no grain run-out in the wood. Visually it's not so hot of course, but I can see keeping the stick for a long time. Structurally the violin is awesome, doesn't look so great as the finish isn't high end (to be expected), if you nit-pick you can see faults from rushing at the factory you wouldn't see in a luthier-built fiddle, all in the "so what?" category though and nothing that affects the sound or playability, like for instance the scroll didn't get careful detail during the build, and there's a sag or drip or two in the finish. Sound-wise, it's 100% better than the first no-name violin we bought off ebay, and the set-up is spot on. Thanks again for your review. Like you said, for the money it will really impress you. I can't thank you enough Alison you are the best! What a machine holy cow. I even like the case, it's just molded styrofoam covered with nylon fabric, but it's all you need, light and easy to carry and cheaply made, though it doesn't look it. It's all you need. Actually I think every family should have at least one of these in the house as someone will eventually play it.

    I had one of these violins a few years ago, and my violin teacher who was a principal violinist at the Akron Symphony Orchestra looked at it and said it was a very good violin and would take me pretty far. He was right. I switched to a more professional violin a few months ago. I ended up giving the old one to my niece and her teacher approves of it as well.

    I set mine up properly, polished it to make it look better, replaced the junk tailpiece, put D'Addario Pro Arte strings on it, and put a Tonerite on it set on medium to open it up. After the Tonerite treatment, no lie, it gives my expensive violins a run for their money. Keep in mind, her violin is "out of the box" and hasn't opened up. It's a fraction of its potential.

    I have this same violin since almost five years ago and one of the things that i most like about it obviously more than the sound it would be the fact that it isn’t varnished cuz i like it that way and i like the fact that it is not shiny... so yeah I think that part depends of the things that the ppl likes but i think that this is a pretty good violin and it worth every single dollar even after 5 years of playing as an student and after some falls it is still with a very good quality and that’s what matter, also that it has had a great projection of the sound since day one so... I Love my Violin

      The Online Piano and Violin Tutor My violin is a new German violin from Karl Höfner, built 2015, but it is a fine copy of a Guarneri del Gesu 1741. I payed 3500 Euro. I tried a couple of different strings, but the Obligo seems to be best for my violin, especially on the D and G. They settle pretty well in 2 days when I change. I’m 70 years old and I have only played 3 years. I love to play and practice 2 - 3 hours every day.

Read the dates on when it should arrive the earlier it arrives the better it is. Read reviews and take advice. Always, do these steps online shopping and you will be all set. I am planning on buying my first violin as well and can't wait! Tell me how it goes.

    Hello. It would be very helpful if you can reply but my sister got me this violin for Christmas mainly because I really want to play the violin and I really wanted to learn. I opened it on Christmas and my cousins (they are both younger than me 11 and 13 but both had been playing for 4 years) were here and I asked if they can play a song for me. My aunt (their mom) took a look at my violin and said that the case and shoulder rest were great but if you show this to a music teacher, they would most likely tell you to buy a new one. When my cousin played it, my aunt ask if the violin was tuned and he said no so he tuned it for me. After tuning as much as he could, he said that it wasn't right and the strings kept "slipping". I told my aunt that I was a cheaper violin and that I was only a beginner. She told me that if I get so used to out of tuned sounds produced by the violin, I will think that the tuned sounds were wrong (as in it doesn't sound right). What should I do?

      I know it's a two year old comment, but I can give some advice on changing the shine on the violin....I work as a collision repair tech, and have been in the industry for 17 years now....you can actually change the shine of satin clear by just hand polishing. Using polishing compound and a microfiber towel, try it first on the back or sides, and just rub the Polish into the clear coat...I work will eventually shine up....

    I don't get what people mean when they say a note is flat. Can someone tell me?

    • @TheOnlineViolinTutor
      @TheOnlineViolinTutor  9 років тому +3

      +Joumana Rashad A note that is 'flat' as been moved from its positino down a half tone. Example, if the note of A has been flattened, it will have gone to Ab.
      Of course to confuse you even further (sorry) a flattened note doesnt have to refer to just 'b' notes, but any notess that has been taken down a half tone. So C# flattened will be C natural nd say F# flattened will be F naturat etc etc.

    • @FfejTball
      @FfejTball 8 років тому +7

      +Joumana Rashad Think of it like Goldilocks: If the porridge is too cold (the note is too low), it's flat. If it's too hot (the note is too high), it's sharp. If it's just right, it's on-key or in-tune.

    They are great violins for the beginners. My kids started on 1/8, and now they are on ¼ and ½. There is no need for better strings until student actually starts to produce nice sound. Until then there is no deference in scratchy sound that they produce - it’ll sound horrible on either type of strings. On Amazon I was able to select finish that I liked. I personally was winning state competitions on this type of violins back in the 70-80s. Yes, my cheap violins were fitted by a luthier, but since I was performing professionally, it was expected. My first expensive violin was ¾.

    I have Glarry GV101 which has same satin finish and also sounds great. I suspect that it maybe made in same Chinese factory as MV300. And that satin finish is part of the reason why violin sounds good. Poor quality thick varnish will probably hinder the sound quality rather than help it, and thin satin finish is probably superior in that respect.

    Just got this violin in the mail today and WOW was I ever impressed. I'm a serious viola player who wants to learn how to play violin as a fun challenge (hence I didn't want to spend a lot of money). The pegs on this violin turned and stayed easily. The fine tuners are a pain to turn though. The bow is quite suckie and I ended up just using the bow from my nice viola from DZ Strad (I'm very upset that the US deals no longer ship to Canada... because I got a crazy good deal).
