@@philjm3103 I still tell people about Slade at Reading. Stood in for the recently formed “Blizzard of Oz” (that’s how it was billed) if memory serves me correctly. Slade upstaged everyone else that weekend. Most memorable was the finale with the roadies throwing bog roll over the stacks as makeshift “confetti”. Saw them 4 times in all I think. Best live band I’d ever seen, until very recently.

It's a shame that most Americans only knew of Slade from the "Run, Run Away" video on MTV. I'm an American and that's when I heard them first. Then people started realizing Quiet Riot did a couple of their songs and they got some notoriety. Then I started looking more into them and was blown away how awesome they were. And the newer generations have no idea! Hell, I'm 51 and most people in my generation are not familiar with them. Thanks for this video, Ox! @@ThePloppy Very true. It's only in recent times that many Americans realised we've been on the planet for more than a few thousand years!!!
Slade actually toured the USA in 1976, but it wasn't a great success, plus they got very homesick. Sweet also toured the USA around that time. As a Queen fan, I was shocked to learn how many Americans (black and white) hadn't heard of them until that awful movie came out 5 years ago. Americans have probably uploaded more Queen at Live Aid "first-time reaction" videos than anything else. If not for Queen, I would have been a Slade fan. They wrote their own songs, like all the best bands, and Noddy's voice was unique. How Does It Feel? and Everyday were two of the best songs in the 1970s. Btw, the hat Noddy put mirrors on... he bought it from Queen's Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor at their stall in Kensington Market, London. I think it's the same hat Taylor is pictured wearing on the back of Queen's first album.

I think AC/DC was born when Angus Young watched this band when he was a young boy.

And also the Sex Pistols, each one individually, in front of their respective family TV sets. They were 16 years old.

The only reason these were not acdc or led zeppelin is not because of the tunes or the players, it's because they always kept that pub rock feel to every gig, if they would have had a mystical vibe about them, they would have been talked about in more favourable terms, they were a great band, but they were not cool looking or mysterious at all, what you saw was what you got, great band though

I have no idea. But apparently people managed to drive in platforms, which is just scary - especially in 1970's cars - who remembers the Morris Marina? Don was not as flash as some, but it was perfect for the band and those songs, which should be the definition of a great drummer.

As an old friend, now long dead, described Slade, "A bunch of Brum plumbers, discovering their bisexuality!"
    Miss you my man!
