Reign is one of those shows where the history major in me screams but also where the sappy TV show enjoyer side of me relishes.

Honestly wish they had just made it fantasy fully and just said they were inspired by Mary Queen on Scots

I really wish they had just made this historical fiction and ran with that. Torrance Coombs leaving killed me and left a void in the show. In the final season, I kept thinking this would never happen to marry with Bash around. Since this is pretty much a harlequin romance, I would’ve love for them to get a HEA ❤

This should have just been an alternate fantasy universe. Just change the names of the characters and the countries, and no one would even make the Mary Queen of Scots connection. Or they'd think it was a loose retelling, like how GoT is a loose retelling of The Wars of the Roses but with magic. It would be seen as clever if it went that direction, instead of incredibly inaccurate. People would praise it instead of trash it.

I fell in love with Adelaide Kane as an actor when I first watched this show. I know the history and the fashion was kinda thrown out the window when they made this, but I can't help but love it anyway and Addy too. Addy herself has said in a video on her channel I think, that if she was ever to do anything historical again, she would love it if she could play Anne Boleyn, and I think she would be good in that role, I just hope to God that the show/movie is competently made.

It's also interesting that Alan Van Sprang and Jonathan Rhys Meyers both played the same character, the main antagonist, Valentine Morgenstern, in the Shadowhunter universe. Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the movie version, Alan Van Sprang in the TV version.

The scenes when Catherine gets Henri out of the dead duchess, rolling the pastry situation is golden. How she weaves it all together with the priest, and the digs at Henri's virility with him being forced into agreeing was acted beautifully. M Follows performance is consistent through the seasons, with that wonderful mix of humour and her plotting. Great video, there is a lot of CW meh in Reign, but I'm pleased you identified the positives.

I'm so glad you appreciate Megan Follows' performance as much as I do. Her portrayal of Catherine was the very definition of a scenery-chewing villain, and I loved it! Everyone else was so serious, while she got to have fun.

“Found” your channel by accident - I LOVE IT! I love all things Tudor. I confess I haven’t watched Reign as I thought by the clips I had seen, it had nothing to do with any genuine history. I set my timer to watch Becoming Elizabeth and the Serpent Queen as I believed there was some factual basis within them. You’ve done the groundwork for me so my next 24hr watch fest will defo be Reign. Thank you!!

I enjoyed The Tudors, so when Reign came out, I was eager to see how it turned out. However, after the (I don't remember if it was episode 6 or 7) I couldn't take it anymore. Not only was it FRUSTRATINGLY more inaccurate than The Tudors (which did get the heart of the story right), but it was so soap operatic and overly complicated that I couldn't tell what was going on anymore.
Btw, that fan theory of Susan dimension jumping was a lot more intriguing than the Reign series! Why can't we have a show centered on her losing her siblings and whether or not she believes in Narnia again?

You calling Greer Germaine throughout the whole thing only for a Jemaine Clement cameo as Tamatoa was a shock to the system and now I'm just picturing Jemaine Clement as one of the Mary's.

Well, I called her Germaine because there's an author called Germaine Greer, but now you mention it, which Mary is the most shiny?

It you’re interested, there are a few books written in the Reign universe (for lack of a better term), written by Lily Blake. If I remember them correctly there’s quite a bit of Bash and Kenna in them but you might want to watch the first few episodes of Series 2 first if you want to try reading them.

I don't care, all I wanted was to see Megan Follows and in later seasons they gave me my Megan. I was happy and would've have watched her ridiculousness forever. I just refused to connect my history brain. It's primarily the executives, because millions of us Americans love the range of accents we hear.

It’s not your history that Reign is fucking with, is it?
Did they even know what country Mary, Queen of Scots is from? I know the clue is in the name, but literally there are no Scottish people in the cast. Even people like James Stuart and Bothwell are played by Englishmen (something I think would have both men turning in their graves).
Just once I’d like to see a decent movie or TV show about Scottish history, Braveheart, Reign, Mary Queen of Scots, even MacBeth. The way Hollywood uses Scotland, it’s like they’ve forgotten it’s actually a real place.
I’d even settle for people getting the Scottish bits right in a show or documentary about English history. The amount of documentaries about Katherine of Aragon I nope out of because the historian will give this ridiculous line about James IV attacking in 1514 because Henry VIII was away and left Katherine in charge. Nothing to do with the treaty we’d had with France for a couple of hundred years at that point, and Henry VIII had pretty much torn up the treaty of perpetual peace.
Even we’ll-respected English historians are dreadful with this stuff, I saw an English historian say the costume in Braveheart were historically accurate, there several hundred years away from accuracy in both directions. I DNF’d Tracy Borman’s book because in the audiobook she can’t even pronounce Scone properly.
Sorry for the rant but the way Scottish history is portrayed pisses me off.

🦄🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿You forgot Outlander 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🦄 but at least it moved to America. I have not watched it or Reign, I was warned by my sister that Reign would send me through the roof. I read my history, thank you Antonia Fraser and Alison Weir.

Funny story, i started watching the Tudors for the first time pretty much right along with watching reign lol, and somehow...completely missed that Culpepper and Bash is the same person lol. In fact, think it was after my second watch of the Tudors, and third with Reign when it finally clicked 😂😂😂

I think i did notice Henry was also in the Tudors during the second watch, but it really isnt as obvious as with Bash to me.

I can’t find anyone born in Scotland with the names Kenner, Greer, Lola or Aylee, searching records from 1553 to 1855.
The only one I can make any sense of is Aylee, because I think it’s supposed to be Eilidh, and the ignorant people that made this show probably though Gaelic names would confuse people. If English football fans can cope with the presenter Eilidh Barbour, then I’m sure Reign viewers would’ve managed with Eilidh rather than Eilidh.
