I think you'd really sink your teeth into Margaret Beaufort. She was an unbelievable survivor, served as a guide and counselor to her son, and lived alongside Woodville as formerly rival dowager queens.

I always saw Edward and Elizabeth Woodville's marriage as the healthy version of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn

True. Henry had probably heard about his maternal grandparents marriage and viewed his marriage to Anne as such.

I wonder if Elizabeth`s origins on her mother`s side who was a member of the Luxembourg dynasty could`ve been seen as a sign of a more noble status that`s closer to royalty

That line from shadow of the tower: 'crowns are dear in England, but heads are cheap' is a banger of a line.
Rebecca Ferguson's performance in the White queen is the reason I was so excited that she was cast as Jessica in Dune.

While I respect Phillipa Gregory's charitable endeavours, I really don't appreciate how her historical fictions have moulded a lot of people's perspective on history (especially with how badly adaptations of her work have treated Margaret Beaufort).

She claims to have a history degree yet in "The White Queen" she has Edward and Elizabeth in a Palace that their Grandson was yet to build. The trick to good H.F. is to stick as close as possible to places and dates

I have to credit Gregory with sparking so many people's interest in the tudors though (mine included). Haven't re-read it in 20 years, but I remember the narration in "The Other Boleyn Girl" being so evocative that it spurred me to look up how much of the book was real.

I have a hunch that Elizabeth Woodville's son Richard actually escaped. I think either the guards let him sneak out of the tower, or it wasn't actually him that they captured, but an imposter.

Honestly, I think that she retired to the nunnery just so that she can fat away from all of the scheming and BS at court. I think that she just wanted to live in peace. And I think that her simple funeral could be used as evidence for her wanting to live the rest of her life in peace.

I don't know. I gave birth to 7 kids and still wore a size 6 (until I quit smoking almost 10 years ago at age 36 and got up to a size 10), so it is possible to be thin with lots of kids. A reality show star has 14 kids and she's no bigger than a size 8. As for Edward IV's and George Duke of Clarence's appearances, they probably inherited their Mom's looks and as she was a granddaughter of John of Gaunt (who was allegedly tall), Edward possibly inherited the tall genes from him and also Richard Duke of York had a very tall ancestor in Lionel of Clarence- the brother of John of Gaunt- who was rumored to be over 7 feet tall. Thus Edward and George could easily have been the biological children of Richard Duke of York even though they were tall.

The White Queen, The White Princess and The Spanish Princess (season 2) are my biggest guilty pleasures/comfort shows lol
I hated season 1 of Spanish Princess but season 2 gave me such a sympathy for Catherine of Aragorn and I’m usually so used to to Anne Boleyn taking the spotlight and Aragorn being cast aside

    • @eamonndeane587
      @eamonndeane587 3 місяці тому +2

Sorry but exaggerating Catherine Of Aragon into some warrior queen that rode into Battle while pregnant and in Armor is absolutely ridiculous and the show expects us to take that seriously.
I also hate The Spanish Princess' handling of Catherine's relationship with her daughter, with her being uncharacteristically aloof towards Mary.
Anne Boleyn also willingly being Henry VIII's mistress in the show is also an absolute insult to her as well

When it comes to Shakespeare I talk about how it's written and/or adapted as opposed to really focusing on the performance unless it has a particularly unique element. Typically, I just go for the BBC Television Shakespeare.

What is forgotten about Elizabeth is that she always underspent her yearly allowance for her household expenses, for 19 years her accounts were under-budget. Margaret Beaufort considered herself an expert on household management and childbirth but could've learned a thing or two from Elizabeth. This may be one of the reasons why Elizabeth was retired to Bermondsey Abbey, Margaret wanted domestic and familial power in her son's court

The white princess series does stride from the book, as does the series about Catherine of Aragon. I'd say the books are perfectly fine, if you understand that they are history mixed with fiction. Hoods for example, are a thing. But I guess the series just wanted to put in something for the dads and the girlbosses.

How many Hampshires are there in England? is North Hampshires one word or two? It says one in the closed captioned, which is why I asked. She had 12 children? 7 surviving kids is so many for that time. you should narrate books, your voice is beautiful. I think you can learn a lot about the time they died. In the late 1800s in my county if a family dies in the same year, it was most likely typhoid.

There's Hampshire in the south where the city of Southampton is situated.
And then there's the county of Northamptonshire, with the city of Northampton inside it.
