- Gulab Singh joined the Lahore Darbar after the Sikh conquest of Jammu in 1808-09. He along with his father Kishore Singh played an important role in the expansion of Sikh Empire in hilly regions.
He phenomenal rise witnessed in Sikh Empire......in the conquest of Ladkah, Skardu and Baltistan areas.
He was made Raja in 1822 and after the defeat of Sikhs in 1st Anglo-Sikh , He became the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir on 16th March ,1846 by the treaty of Amritsar.

@@historyfox4973 yes, britishers forced him to not to support then but he was busy in kashmir and was developinh j&k and with gen zorawar singh ji, so how could he go to two places at the same time even he cinrquered so much area becaz he was loyal to maharaja ranjit singhji
