      Sienna sales are limited only by the number they build. People buy the Odyessy, Pacifica and Carnival because they don’t want to wait 2 years or pay too much.
      What they left out of this update is the latest safety gear which is inexcusable on a family hauler.

      I really don’t understand why these car channels hate on vans so much. I guess because they get to drive so much cool stuff ask the time. But every regular car guy I know loves vans because of how practical they are, but no matter how much I try, I can’t get my wife to even consider driving one. It’s women who drive the family hauler markets and most women have decided that vans are uncool and would rather have a suv/cuv that holds less, is harder to get in/out of, and gets way worse mpg.

    I had a Toyota Previa and could climb to the back between the front seats. I'd rather be able to do that than have that big console between the seats. It takes away from the utility a van offers and makes the front seem disconnected from the back.

      Couldn't agree more. If you need to stop and get back to the kids. No sense of getting out if you can just get in between the seat. The center consoles are terrible for a minivan function. I grew up with a 80s toyota cargo van that my dad put seats in. Driver was over the front axle and you accessed the engine by lifting the front seats. We sat on the hump between the driver and passenger seats all the time. That van was awesome to grow up with.

    I had the first year, 2021 got an XLE FWD for $38k and change out the door. Covid hit and crazy prices happened. Carvana offered me, $49k for it. I thought it was a scam and saw they were selling used ones for $53K. I sold it and haven't been able to get another one since for a reasonable price. Fit and finish was outstanding for a 1st year model and yes it got 35 mpg in hot humid Florida for such a large vehicle. I can see why they sell out now a days. It even came with the spare tire. I didn't know that was big deal. LOL.

      Spare tire is an option. Our family just purchased a 2024 Sienna Limited AWD, and it was optioned with a spare tire. The previous generation Sienna with AWD could not option a spare tire (accessed on the passenger side, under the second row area of the undercarriage), because the driveshaft for the AWD took up the space for the spare tire. This 2022 and newer Sienna design uses electric motors at the rear end to create AWD, instead of a physical driveshaft. I agree about the folding flat or removable second row. Also, who buys a minivan to only get 2 chairs in the second row, instead of a 3 person bench? Seriously! Also agree on having a smaller wheel and more rubber on the tire sidewall for a more comfortable ride. Do the engineers and designers even drive these vehicles on our United States roads? Potholes, expansion joints, railroad tracks, etc. all beat the living daylight out of oversize wheel packages. This is our family’s 4th Toyota Sienna since 2013.

    • @analogmatrix1442

    I like mini vans, one of my previous vehicles was an old Ford Freestar, it was closest thing I had to a car. To bad they didn't up the power just abit. And no I don't expect Race car performance from a van. But if memory serves it has less power than all the other vans. I do like that their is an AWD option. Get AWD with decent tires and it should be decent if bad weather hits. I also wish the second row would fold flat in case somebody wanted to make a camper van out of it. But still,a van is mostly a people hauler. Take the family with alot of luggage on vacation vehicle. But for me I think I'd still prefer a crossover or SUV. But then again Its been quite awhile since I've had little ones in the house.

      Be careful with that 1.6 T gasoline engine in the Kia Hybrid. Not sure if they did any improvements to that design. My wife had that 1.6 T in her 2017 Tucson. We bought it new and it was fine until about 80,000 miles when it starting burning an insane amount of oil. Save all your oil and maintenance receipts or they won’t honor the warranty. After multiple consumption tests we were able to get a new engine in it. I think Kia should have put the newer hybrid engine they have in the Sorento. In my opinion, that 1.6 T is too small for the Carnival even with the battery assist. Good luck.

    He’s wrong about the vacuum location. Also the fridge is a real fridge and has the ability to freeze ice cream in the freeze setting. Also it’s rated at 35 mpg not 45. Lots of errors in this review.

    A PHEV of the Sienna would probably put the price tag north of $65k which is not recoverable as an EV. Unfortunately the cost difference would likely never be recovered and at 40ish mpg already the gains won't matter much. I love Ohio, $100 premium each year for hybrid, $200 premium each year for PHEV or EV on registration. If the Odyssey jumped to a good PHEV that would be worthwhile since it doesn't really have a hybrid option.

    Great review of this GUTLESS people mover! Toyota builds the best(quality/appearance-wise) minivan, with the WORST(performance-wise) powertrain. Not a single reviewer has had the courage to road-test the Sienna laden with adult passengers. Want to do a review of minivans, based on the reality of their intended use? Test them all with 4 adults, in the first two rows. And, 3 kids(or adults!) in the 3rd row! As I get ready to replace my 2014 Sienna(w/200,000 trouble-free miles), 2020 may be the newest model year I can obtain(with the V6).

    • @jondrew55

      Agree to the extent that fully loaded this thing probably is a dog. But if that's the intended use case, then get something else. 2 adults and 2 or 3 kids will luggage will be fine. And the gas milage is a huge factor.

    • @tggfinancial
      @tggfinancial 3 місяці тому

      @@jondrew55 I have had experience(several hundred miles) with this powertrain, loaded with only two adults, on the mountainous Interstate roads, where the speed limit is 75MPH. This engine moans and groans like a lazy teenager, not wanting to do their chores! And, during that period, it only returned 28MPG. Until Toyota is willing to address this, they will remain #3 in the minivan market.

    • @jondrew55
      @jondrew55 3 місяці тому

      @@tggfinancial Just to be clear, you have experience in a late model hybrid, correct? Maybe in your case this isn't the car for you. "Several hundred miles" would indicate you borrowed or rented the vehicle. Living in Florida, I never deal with mountainous interstates at 75. And assuming you had this thing "floored" for that driving experience, 28 is pretty decent. Sounds like it's just not the car for you. And again, people are waiting months if not a year to get their hands on these vans, so we really don't have any ideal why it's #3 based strictly on sales. BTW, I have no dog in this fight. I have a Durango R/T with a Hemi and a RAM 2500 Cummins.

    I absolutely must be able to move the driver side middle seat out. Necessary for loading a wheelchair. If I can get an older Sienna, I will. But Toyota won't get my money aslo g as I can't load the wheelchair. I'm wary of the AWD Pacifica, but it is the ONLY van that works for me.

    Spending $20,000 on a tote bag is the obvious choice, rather than spending $200 on a kislux bag and investing the remaining $19,800 since a $20,000 bag is unlikely to increase in value.

    To drive 150000 miles
    Sienna needs 4166 gallons
    Odyssey need 6818 gallons
    saves 2652 gallons
    That's about 8000.00 dollars in 150000 miles
    not bad.

    I don't find this minivan to be cross competitive in the 3 row SUV/crossover market, at least for me. No way I'm spending 50k+ on an "awd" hybrid minivan when I can get a comparably equipped 3 row crossover with a more robust AWD/4wd setup in the low to mid 40s.

    • @kjay5056
      @kjay5056 3 місяці тому

      Try loading up the inside the same way as any 3 row crossover. Most people say they never would get a minivan until they started to use it to carry things. My wife was converted. Oh, I don't know what 3 row crossover with AWD trimmed out comparably that you are getting in the low to mid 40"s. Just saying.

    • @vogz10
      @vogz10 2 місяці тому

      Here's the thing. 3 row SUVs with the exception of massive ones like the Suburban/Yukon XL are all deficient in space/utility compared with minivans. Sliding doors, low load floor in the back and a much more roomy first second and third row are gamechangers for road trips, carpools, etc. I say this as a "never minivan guy" for a long time. We struggled through car seats and strollers with our kids in a 2008 Acura RDX and then a 2019 Mazda CX-9. After renting a Sienna on a trip, I was a convert. Getting back in the CX-9 at the airport on the way home it felt so tiny inside. We are taking delivery of a 2025 Sienna next week.
