    Isn't it amazing how, once the roof goes on and the space is enclosed, the size and scale of what you guys have built becomes so clear? It's looking fantastic already and it will only get progressively better and better as you move onto those finishing touches. And then we can look forward to watching you working on the interior!
    You should be justly proud of what you've achieved here and I understand when you look at the cabin and wonder "did we do that" and have to kinda pinch yourselves. But yes, you did it!
    Can't wait for the next installment!

    You two make quite a team! Years from now long after it's finished you will still look at that log cabin and think " did we really build that " . I still do and that sense of pride and accomplishment seems to last forever. Also it's interesting that a friend and I bought a woodlands HM122 saw mill just like yours. Isn't it a great tool! There's something about wood!

    Now would ya look at that..oh man what a classical looking cabin. Beautiful it is indeed yall🤙
    Question I have is..instead of cutting off the little extra purlins and ridge beam log at back of cabin why not just add few more tongue and groove and leave the nice extra rear overhang?
    Thank you both very much again for the upload🙂🙂

    • @natureartgirl

      Yes, definitely could do that. But one of them was shorter, so we were trying to make them match. A long overhang is definitely an advantage. 😊👍

    You two are tough as nails! I built my log home when i was in my 30's. Did it on week ends and after work. We moved into it after the roof and windows were in. It took another 15 years to finish. We did it all without any loans. It took a long time but was worth it to stay debt free. My hat is off to the both of you for taking on this build in your mature years. It looks great and i wish you a safe completion to your build. Looking forward to following this build to the end!

    I like to use Emseal precompressed log tape under the T&G on top of the ouside wall log, and a little piece between each board right above the strip ontop of the top log. Otherwise the T&G will shrink and leave a gap that may be a little hard to caulk later. Absolute, great job guys !

    • @natureartgirl
      @natureartgirl  2 роки тому

      Right! We used it between each log, but completely forgot to use it between the top log and the tongue and groove. We are going to have to use a line of expanding foam on the inside and cover with a piece of trim. Oops!!😬😁

    Well, an incredible amount of progress on the video guys. The roof is an incredibly critical part of the structure and your approach and attention to detail will make sure it lasts as long as possible. The T&G, tar paper, trusses, facia and trim for the soffits look superb - and especially the ever-practical hand of Cinda the wood-miller. You make a wonderful team and it's lovely that you just work together so hard and the tempers don't rise as the sun does in the sky. It's hardly any wonder you can hardly believe that this home has been created by the hard work of your hands and the clarity of your vision and planning. Creation took a lot of wisdom, design brilliance and complete attention to detail. And homes don't make themselves either. Thank you for sharing this lovely adventure in co-creation. Love it - and God bless you again.

    The native American Indians called cicadas the lobster of the land. We gathered about a hundred last year. The best way to dispatch is to freeze them. Some eat them whole. We removed the tails a sauteed them in garlic and butter...... delicious

    Wow that is a beautiful cabin.I love watching how it all goes together and learning what each board is for. Cinda you have really gotten stronger during the build. I could never move those logs like you do in the mill. I am getting excited seeing it all come together but sad to see it end too ! Lance you really have a talent for wood working and it is looking really good. See ya'll in the next video. This heat can leave any time cause it's hot here in Houston,Tx .I am ready for cooler weather and will not complain if it gets too cold either.🥵🥶

      Hi Debbie😊 Yes, I have gotten stronger, but the logs have also gotten lighter as they dry. They were incredibly heavy when we first cut them. They are not so bad now😁Sorry it is hot there! I know in the city it can be even worse, we at least have shade for a good part of the day. Take care and thanks for watching!😊💕

    l been observing that almost all the cabins built in Canada and in the US do not pur stones and cement under the cabin's floor perimeter to keep critters out from building their nests under the cabins, while in Europe, most cabins like the one you're building have stones and cement/lime underneath as part of the foundation.

      Hi. We would have liked to do that too. We are on a pretty tight budget right now so we are planning on using metal around the bottom for now. We may eventually rock in the bottom. Our house we live in now is rocked in around the bottom and we love it. 😊

    Looking great with the ceiling tongue and groove. You’ll feel happier once the metal roof is on for weather proofing, and to be out of the heat, and you can comfortably work on the inside at your own pace. I know it comes down to cost, and I guess during winter , you’ll want the cabin to be snug, but it’s a shame not to have windows at both ends for extra light, and to be able to see the trees outside. I’m picking your winters are pretty severe, so to have less areas for warmth to escape is paramount.

    • @natureartgirl
      @natureartgirl  2 роки тому

      Yes, the gable end would be pretty with windows. But we are putting in a bathroom back there and the wall would go through the middle of one. It’s just a small cabin. We don’t get real cold here normally, so that’s not really a problem. I think we will still get a lot of light from the windows and sliding glass door, but you can’t have too many windows 🤣😁🤣👍

      Good question! They are under the soffit. We had not cut them in this video yet. They will be in the next one. Then we have ordered vented closures for the top of the metal roof. And have little round finishing trim caps for the vent holes so bugs can’t get in. Although we are going to wait to put them on till we finish staining. 😊👍

    STep ladders of any height are so wobbly in side load I have often wondered why they don't make an add on small brace that a guy could clamp on both sides and a clip in flat plate at the top that would slide into place to stiffen them up. A twelve footer is a spooky thing even with a plank on it. Roof looks very nice. If warping and checking from sunlight is a real concern it wouldn't take long to coat the exterior with urethane varnish as you finish installation or better still put your roof membrane down right away. It would be a shame to see that expensive wood messed up with sun drying it too rapidly. In my opinion you can't have too long of an overhang. If it is long in the back I would leave it that way. Log structures really benefit from all the weather protection you can give them. Overhangs go a long way toward keeping them dry and the finish long lived. Enjoy the project.

    • @natureartgirl
      @natureartgirl  2 роки тому

      Thanks Douglas! Yes, a longer overhang in the back would be a good idea, but only two of the support logs were longer so we had to trim them to match the shorter one. Those were the longest mostly straight logs that we had. We did put roofing felt down right away to protect the tongue and groove which turned out to be a good thing since we had two brief but intense thunderstorms 😬😊

      Hi! I don’t know of any log cabins for sale around here. Not too many people build them anymore. But if you do find one for sale, you do have to pay property taxes each year.
