I've got a TYT dmr myself and this radio looks very similar but, this radio seems to have so much more. Some great functionality now available in these new radios coming out, with dual band and both digital and analogue facilities. Many thanks for the video. 73
Thanks again Lewis! Ordered an RT3S using the link below the video. Decided to get one since it can use the MD-380 accessories. Another one for the collection courtesy of RM video reviews! Good job!
I know there are two firmware versions available for this radio. One is the default that gives 8 hours of recording and the other allows for 120,000 DMR contacts but no record. I think it would be great is we could have a firmware that compromises and allows for example 15 minutes of recording which would still allow for 116,250 digital contacts.
Thanks, great content as always! I think this is the same radio as the TYT MD-UV380. I've got a MD-UV390 (same as the 380, but with a supposedly waterproof, chunkier shell). I would have bought from Retevis, though, if I knew about the RT3S at the time. They seem to be more user friendly than TYT. The record function is very interesting. It records analog as well, which is a plus over some DMR radios. I don't see a delete option when looking at the recordings, but I might not be looking in the right place.
I have an RT3S that our customer bought some time ago that communicates with a Motorola EVX-S24 that the customer already owned. The customer recently purchased four new RT3S. I read their existing RT3S and programmed the four new ones from the old one. The four new RT3S communicate with each other but not with their older radios. Do you know what would be causing this issue? Thank you for your assistance. Keith
I wanna add different sections like marine, lifeguard, mountain rescue, pmr ect, is there an easy way to just import what i want on to it without having to manually enter each one ?
Hi Lewis Really great review of this radio and it's good to see that not a lot of money can buy something very good! I've just ordered one of these radios for work use as digital seems to be a good way forward. I however don't have any experience with DMR. I have a business light license so do I need a DMR ID to use handsets purely on simplex on the business and DMR 446 frequencies?
Nice video! Do you know how to unlock the GPS feature. I've just got one, installed the most recent firmware etc, but the icon keeps with that red symbol under the globe icon... Thanks!
Great video👍 Im looking for a dmr radio for a team of First Responsers... It must have: Super clear audio. ip67 waterresist. lone worker. enqryption. High quality on handmic and earphone.. Is there a Radio you could recomend.?
If it's for professional use, I would recommend Motorola. But Motorola radios are pretty expensive and you can't program them from the radio, only with the expensive Motorola software.
I like the look of this one. Gary from Martin Lynch recommends this one over all of the others. How many channels per zone are u aloud and how many per scan list?
Hi Lewis! How would you compare it to the Anytone D868/878? I would like to buy a spare DMR radio and I just can't decide which one. It has to be APRS/DPRS compatible and to be VHF and UHF. 73 de E73HAK
Quick question-I noticed in the channel edit page when you select analogue or digital ,does the menu lock out channel bandwidth in digital mode? so can I have in digital mode 25khz bandwidth? not the normal fixed 12.5Khz bandwidth forced one in DMR mode? If it can do wide digital bandwidth thats def a plus! Normally its fixed and cannot be changed, wonder if can verify ? Ill assume analogue will do 25K,20K,12.5K bandwidths fine. 73 Rob
I have this radio and the volume on its lowest setting is too loud at night. It seems to be limited and settings below 1 are muted. Does anyone else have this problem?
When are these fantastic, well made, feature laden Chinese radios going to incorporate a moving map into their GPS feature. So far we have been saddled with the Garmin Rino's which are incredibly expensive to the tune of $650.00 each. The radio section of the 5 watt Garmin Rino is poor compared to the Chinese and Japanese market. The Garmin Rino's only operate on the UHF GMRS frequencies. As a hunter, hiker, or camper these radios can be invaluable when using the GPS map. I hope this message gets through to the Chinese radio manufacturers. I have seen the $ 59.00 Xiaomi UHF 2 watt radio interface through Bluetooth and your cellphone. This radio sends the GPS coordinates to your phones google map, but who wants to use two devices for the same purpose.
This is not a radio that a hiker, a camper or a hunter should use IF he's not a Ham also why a Ham should talk about hunting or camping on ham bands ? There are the dedicated PRM / LPD for that stuff.
@@adrianoragazzo1321 I thought that once I’m a licensed ham I could talk about any legal subject in any legal channel. They don’t necessarily need to put this feature on this radio, they could put it on one of their GMRS radios. Garmin’s Rino does it for $650.00, way too much.
Useful video. I am thinking of getting in to DMR with this radio and I’m in London. Do I need a hotspot? And how do I find out which talk groups are on my local repeater? Thanks a lot!

The difference between rt3s to rt3 is only the gps function that’s correct ? Another thing not especific to this radio but I’m not sure about dmr can someone without amateur radio licence uses this dmr radio only to monitoring or just listening? I mean dmr amateur radio repeaters this kind of thing, or you need to have the license to acess this repeaters. Thank you very much for the attention! Cheers
Hey Andre no I covered the differences in the video, this one records audio, is dual band, has GPS. You can use it to monitor without a license. Cheers!
I make no secret about the fact that I do not like SMA-M antennas. I have ONE radio with a male antenna, the GD-77. I have at least a dozen aftermarket female antennas, because every other radio I own is female. So I have to go out and specifically BUY an antenna to replace the stock junk. I know, it's minor... Just really bugs me. The antenna, battery and charger base are very similar/identical to the GD-77. (The battery is different, wouldn't be interchangeable, but not terribly far off). Thanks for the vid!
I`m new in radios and don´t know too much i´m trying to listen to the local taxis but although i can see who is transmiting car/radio number i can´t hear anything just a very dim radio hiss i have the frecuency time slot and color code but there ´s still something missing type G comes up and tx contact 5 on all transmitions but no options to in menu to set this please can you help? i have the rt3s and they have motorolas

MD-380 then... Where would you recommend me to pick it up from in the UK obv =) Thanks!

Does this radio has VFO mode and how does it work
It is stated, both on the official website also theyr blog that is HAS the VFO but i can't find anything about it i'm sorry :(
Press and hold RED/Back button about 2 sec. will switch to VFO and reverse to exit
That doesn't work on mine, does it have to enabled in the codeplug ?
