Thanks so much for this. We have been visiting Sanibel since our kids were teens. They're 48 and 50 now! It was both nostalgic and sad to see what happened. We look forward to visiting again soon.
Brilliant tour - thank you. We are heading to Sanibel mid - April so hoping things have taken shape since this video. Always stayed at Seaside Inn (sooooo sad ...) and Waterside (also wiped off the map..) so this time will be different. Hope to see an update tour soon!
Thank you for the update of the island... have been going there since mid 60's.... everything I remember from my life growing up is no longer there... the Colony is there but we stayed in the cottages that don't exist anymore... So this has been kinda sad for me to see but I know it will come back better than ever... I love the Island Cow.... thanks for the video....
Thank you for the detailed video, my family has been visiting Sanibel for the past 30yrs. It has a special place in our hearts. We cut our stay short a day before Ian hit although very reluctant, it was obviously the right decision. We watched in horror the devastation that took place from our home in Wisconsin. Glad to see things are coming back. I know there are many important projects that need to be done, but is there any talk of when the fishing pier might reopen?
Wow so lucky that you made the decision to leave! To be honest we have not heard any talk about the fishing pier. I think there are so many government entities involved once you are dealing with the ocean that there is a lot of red tape to get through. We heard Fort myers Beach pier won’t be finished until 2027.
Thanks so much for your video and information! We are returning for our weekly, annual trip in November, with our friends. We're also meeting another couple there. We're all very excited to return! 😊
July 3,2023- I was just researching the island and I asked some questions like are there any alligators in Sanibel Bay and they said yes then I asked if any alligators ever wander into some of the beautiful neighborhoods there and they also said yes is that why everybody has their pool screen in, it’s such a beautiful place and I was checking the prices of houses for 2024 but they are the same as here in California and in California at least we don’t have so far any devastating hurricanes plus I could not live where sharks and alligators are so prevalent since I love the oceanwith all the flooding off Fort Myers I can imagine what people pay for flood insurance if they can get it because here in California with earthquakes that are prevalent nobody can get earthquake insurance. Tour you gave her was really nice.
Awesome job! Great to see the progress! If you get time to answer questions...Cips Place is not reopening? Also, any idea when the shops will begin reopening in Periwinkle Place? Thank you!
You skipped over Periwinkle Cottages and Tradewinds on Jamaica Dr. (SanCap Rd before Bowman’s Beach) I was wondering if they got totally destroyed and if/when they will reopen??? Thank you so much for these videos! They are very helpful & informative. It is so comforting to see so much of it coming back so quickly!!
Thanks for update , casa ey bel , where we have a timeshare is due to reopen the timeshare buildings early 2024.👏👏👏 Restaurant and rest of the facility’s , pool, bar etc will be much later. Do you know about the living history museum on Dunlop rd ? And also wildlife explorer that we used a lot there when we visit. Cheers Warren
Thanks for the Casa Ybel update! The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village is still closed unfortunately. Follow their Facebook page, they put updates.
The end that was demolishing you said they’re gonna put something else there, did the people have insurance like flood insurance or hurricane insurance or is it just a great loss?
Yes we were sad too! It was in a bad state. That part of the island took a bad hit. Loved to go to the pool bar. I’m sure the new resort will be amazing!
What about Gulf Breeze Cottages on Shell Basket Ln? Family owned, sweet little colorful Cottages. Is there any news about a possible rebuild? We drove over Wednesday and Gramma Dot's which was supposed to reopen Oct 1st according to their website, has a sign moving reopening mid to later October. Lighthouse Beach still beautiful. Praying for everyone there.
So hurricane can demolish properties in spot just like a tornado is that correct? Where is I was thinking a hurricane if it came towards you, everyone around you would be in danger too.
All the bike paths are open. You can park at any of the public parking spots. You can also park at Bailey’s Homestead for free and bike from there. Check out thesancapguide.com for current info about the islands.
Hello, nice information couple, we went to F Myers months ago and it was very sad, the Ian damage is huge. People are resilient and strong there, praying for people's recovery soon 🙏
Loss of life is terrible no matter how it happens, but I just don't feel sorry for people that lose homes, etc. in places like this. WHAT do you think is going to happen if not today, then tomorrow where hurricanes hit. The cost to rebuild, only for the very next year it could happen again.. The reason the rest of us are paying higher homeowners and insurance companies are leaving left and right. You chose to build in these places, you should pay all costs. No insurance.. Build at your own risk. .
Thanks so much for this. We have been visiting Sanibel since our kids were teens. They're 48 and 50 now! It was both nostalgic and sad to see what happened. We look forward to visiting again soon.
Yes Sanibel is such a special place for so many. Glad you have many happy memories from your vacations and we hope you get to visit again soon!
Thanks, also, for leaving the camera running at the end. That was a great ride across the causeway!
So glad to hear you two are getting the office open again
Thank you!

Is the Beachview Cottages being rebuilt?
Hi, great video! We were planning to visit in July, any updates as to how the place is at the moment? January 28th - 2024 - tks!
Yes! Our latest video we filmed the first of January. Check it out!
Awesome job! Great to see the progress! If you get time to answer questions...Cips Place is not reopening? Also, any idea when the shops will begin reopening in Periwinkle Place? Thank you!
We will try to find out 😀
@@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide Appreciate that! Be well!

Hi, yes we did we were running out of time unfortunately. I am not sure how they faired but we will look into it.
We had a flamingo spotted here in Dayton Ohio after that last storm. I hope it finds its way back home before it gets cold here.
Yes they need to hurry back home. 😀

Thanks for the update. I was sad to see the West Wind Island Resort is gone. Was there anything left of the property after Ian came through?
Yes we were sad too! It was in a bad state. That part of the island took a bad hit. Loved to go to the pool bar. I’m sure the new resort will be amazing!

Yes loved Gulf Breeze Cottages. They were so sweet. Have not heard about plans. Website just says closed indefinitely. 😢

have you seen the Sanibel Inn yet or heard any news about it? I haven't been there since 2000 and would love to go back
Yes one of our favorite spots! There are workers at the property everyday so they are working hard to come back!
@@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide whew... oh I am so glad to hear that!!
I wonder about She Sells Seashells if their gone as well as Dairy Queen
Looks like the price of paradise is hell.
Laurie, great story about your aunt and uncle and childhood from Ohio. Sanibel? Grandchildren? Sanibel? Grandchildren? Tough decision!
Yes in the end the grandchildren won out but they had 40 wonderful years on Sanibel ❤️
40 years, Laurie, that's great. We've been vacationing there that long, @@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide, and looking forward to 40 more!
I’m traveling to Naples soon, are there any bike trails open on Sanibel? If so, where can I park? Not sure if maybe the storms ruined the trails.
All the bike paths are open. You can park at any of the public parking spots. You can also park at Bailey’s Homestead for free and bike from there. Check out thesancapguide.com for current info about the islands.

Any word if tropical winds is going to rebuild
Hey Sue, we have not heard anything. We will try and find out.
Pinocchio’s ice cream did not reopen?
Not yet, they have a location off island near the Health Park Hospital.
Key phrase “ off island.” Once you cross the causeway, you don’t ever want to cross it again! Even as good as Pinocchio‘s ice cream is.
I want to know what’s going on today October
What specifically did you want to know,
Is Bailey's open?
No unfortunately Bailey’s is totally gone but they have plans to rebuild!
😕
