  • Report on the reuniting of surviving Lynyrd Skynyrd members as the Rossington Collins Band and performing at the Fox Theatre. Footage of a Rossington Collins Band live concert; a homemade banner reading “In Memory of Ronnie Van Zant”; fans screaming while the band performs the song “Prime Time”. Interview with founders Allen Collins and Gary Rossington. Natural sound and VoiceOver.
Lynyrd Skynyrd (/ˌlɛnərd ˈskɪnərd/ LEN-ərd SKIN-ərd)[2] is an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida. The group originally formed as My Backyard in 1964 and comprised Ronnie Van Zant (lead vocalist), Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass guitar) and Bob Burns (drums). The band spent five years touring small venues under various names and with several lineup changes before deciding on "Lynyrd Skynyrd" in 1969. The band released its first album in 1973, having settled on a lineup that included bassist Leon Wilkeson, keyboardist Billy Powell and guitarist Ed King. Burns left and was replaced by Artimus Pyle in 1974. King left in 1975 and was replaced by Steve Gaines in 1976. At the height of their fame in the 1970s, the band popularized the Southern rock genre with songs such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird". After releasing five studio albums and one live album, the band's career was abruptly halted on October 20, 1977, when their chartered airplane crashed, killing Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines, and seriously injuring the rest of the band.
Lynyrd Skynyrd reformed in 1987 for a reunion tour with Ronnie's brother Johnny Van Zant as lead vocalist. They continue to tour and record with co-founder Rossington (the band's sole continuous member), Johnny Van Zant, and Rickey Medlocke, who first wrote and recorded with the band from 1971 to 1972 before his return in 1996. In January 2018, Lynyrd Skynyrd announced its farewell tour,[3] and continues touring as of October 2019. Members are also working on their fifteenth album.[4]
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Lynyrd Skynyrd No. 95 on their list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".[5][6] Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006.[7] To date, the band has sold more than 28 million records in the United States.

I was on a road trip, passing through Atlanta then, and I attended this show. I was up in the balcony. An amazing performance by the RCB. This band unfortunately had a short life, due to infighting and the death of Allen's wife in '81 while the band was on tour. But they did record two great albums. In more recent years, Skynyrd would add Don't Misunderstand Me to their set with Dale stepping up front and center to sing the lead. Thanks for posting this. It brings back a great memory.

I live in Orange park and decided to go to Riverside Memorial Park and got to see the Skynard Boys. God the place is amazing. If you ever get the chance, Ronnie is next to the fountain pond and Allen is in the smaller cemetery across the street next to a big white angel and oak tree with a bench "Collins-Johns" is on the bench. Billy and Leon are at the front at the eternal fountain and Gary will be there as well
God bless this amazing band, been to a lot of spots skynard walked on including Hell shack and plummer Grant road off of old st.augustine road where Allen crashed his car. Its amazing this band has never faded and I don't think they ever will

They were good. That Dale Krantz lead vocal woman messed that band up bad, or they let her mess them up. Krantz was in a sexual relationship with Rossington and Collins. That is a recipe for disaster, and it destroyed them. Krantz chose Rossington. Collins left and did one album as the Allen Collins Band. Rossington did a thing with Krantz called the Rossington Band.
