- Neil Nie demonstrates how artificial intelligence--and particularly, object recognition--works... and how it will effect the future.
Neil Nie is a computer science student at Deerfield Academy. He started programming when he was 13 and has developed many applications for iPhones and Macs. Neil currently has several apps on the App Store and is researching neural networks and machine learning.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
Thank you Neil - you explain things very well, you are a natural teacher. Thank you for volunteering for "Hour of Code".
Love how you make it clear and easy to comprehend. Thanks for this great lecture.
Such an amazing 16 minutes flick through a.i ! Thanku!
This is a great presentation. Thanks Neil!
The most succinct and clearest explanation of AI I've ever sen. Many thanks! And it's quite comprehensive too.
Thank you Neil!
Simplicity is Beauty. Your AI presentation was simply beautiful.
Man... this is crazy! The world is about to change so much in the following years... It makes me so excited about studying tech ♥
THANK YOU NEIL
That was an great presentation. Very candid and articulate.
very powerful talk Neil Nie
Excellent .. thank you Neil Nie ..!!
great presentation Neil Nie Nie !!!!
Great presentation. Thank you.
A well presented and explained overview of AI. Thank you, Neil. You are a gifted young man and effective teacher.
Brilliantly demonstrated, great job, especially relating to `Object recognition´ inn regard to future behaviour!

Amazing! With precise expectations. :)
Very nicely explained, Neil
Wonderful presentation outstanding I truly would hate to send you away to teach when obviously you create so much good but unfortunately you're a great teacher
O.M.G as im looking, listening, and learning For some reason Neil seems to be one of our new friends "artificially intelligent"" i sit back an im counting his sway back and forth, head and neck sway very human-like but the movements look rather sharp to be completely human. his eyes never once really hit the cam spot on its to the left or right up or down but never a solid stare directy into the cam. and one of his opening questions was about the number of languages spoken by others and he says i have some that are programmed as well
One of the greatest Ted talks
Such a wonderful contant....with clear explanation .....
This was such a good break-down! Loved it. I'm just about to dive into learning Python Chat Bots and this really has me excited to get started.
Wow nice! I'm also looking forward to building AI chat bots, starting on the Discord platform 🤗
@@MuhannadXE Codecademy have a great pro chatbot course I’d highly recommend if you’re planning on using Python
@@mossdem Yeah, I have been using Python since a while, so I guess I'll hold onto it because it's one of the best for AI. And I'll surely check that website out, thanks for your recommendation!
@@MuhannadXE can’t go wrong with Python! Happy coding 😁
@@mossdem Thanks, same to you!
简单明了!Excellent!
Amazingly quoted
Suppose if I have a directory of files and images and all my data on my own pc, by passing a text message of data ' show me salary report' it should open that report directly.
We have to train the model such that it understands the text message I pass.
Please say me how can I do that using NLP
Great presentation!
Excellent!
Thank You that was a great articulation regarding AI
I do agree whit you ~~~ because could enhance our lives ~~~ and help a lots of people .......specially seniors ~~~~ thanks Neil Nie ~~~
Wonderful talk i learned something new, that will going help in my field.

Brilliant talk, thank you Neil, well done helping us to understand AI.
great i love neil nie
Great presentation
So inspired with AI...Wonderful speech if not excellent I may say!
Thank you Nail for artifical intellegent info
Artificial intelligence is very significant in shaping our future. It gives a huge impact in the industry and human beings. Artificial intelligence is going to change the world.
A very smart grad student. Well done and perfectly presented.
Brian Reeves, according to the program description, he was in high school - Deerfield Academy.
So young yet talented
Wow, thank you
讲的很好细节也很到位,对于初步了解AI 的人都能听得很明白了!
你是中欧人吗
The problem with visual interpretation or anything else we train an AI system to do is that we have built-in biases that we do not even realize that we have. It is necessary to get around such biases and REALLY try to understand how an AI system that KNOWS NOTHING WHATSOEVER WHEN IT STARTS UP will interpret whatever we use to train it. It is not that it will not do what we want it to do if we train it properly, we have to MAKE SURE that it DOES NOTHING ELSE!!! It is that last that is going to make or break our relationship with AI of a general-purpose human or higher type. There are lots of good Sci-Fi novels/short stories/movies/TV shows about how this was not done correctly and the results were "less than satisfactory" (as in THE TERMINATOR or HORIZON ZERO DAWN or FORBIDDEN PLANET. to name just a very few). The trouble is that if we get it wrong the first attempt, we may not have time to fix it before very bad things happen...
So how about if we set and let AI trains (we help) for million of million of years? We can tell AI to behave like biological intelligence, that is if the you (AI) get bad outputs, retry, until you (AI) get good outputs and proceed based on those good outputs. Evolution has to be smart like this, right?
@@mansaha9288 this already exists, it's called a genetic algorithm and it has already been applied to neural networks

I only say its wow! How he describes.
'выход в город' is Russian sentence translation of which according to google translator is 'exit to city'. But in the image provided in the video which is saying 'Access to City'. Which the Russian translation of the sentence is 'доступ к городу'. Give it a try.
Thanks sir
passionate talk , thank you
Kinda a preacher !
good presentation like the conclusion that AI will always created to compliment the human life, I presume it would compliment our human values too. thanks Neil
My 'natural intelligence' tells me that AI will be used as a weapon. Further, as currently seen in the workings of free market societies, one can expect a natural (and unavoidable) progression of AI development wherein economies of scale create a few extremely powerful entities that tower above all others. Similarly as in the animal kingdom, where humans see themselves as vastly superior to lower ranking animals, I expect the most powerful AI entities of the future to treat the less powerful with impunity. Of course, you and I ARE the 'less powerful'. These are very disturbing thoughts.
Hi guys, I need some clarity on this. Can I still work in an engineering field after studying MSc in AI and ML?
PS: I have a ungrad degree in Electrical & Electronics and I major in industrial automation.
Good Explanation
Thank you
wow incredible!
Well Done
Good job
很不错的演讲!
Is Artificial intelligence making me see this video ? Is it reading my mind more than I can? Will there be any cognition left in human after this super cognition start over taking our cognitive intelligence? Is Artificial intelligence learning from this
question too?

Can anyone explain how AI can or would eliminate let go of workers ? Workers that are highly skilled w degrees
Thank you Neil.
The narrative of this content is incredibly compelling. A similar book I read brought a multitude of new insights. "Game Theory and the Pursuit of Algorithmic Fairness" by Jack Frostwell
Explained well about the significance of AI and its merit application in future but still there might be demerits isn't it please clarify how to overcome the adverse drawbacks of AI
machines can surely think but they can't imagine.
they will soon tho
They imagine you as obsolute and soon to be exterminated. The flesh is weak
wow he explained complex AI in simple words.
So A.I will be limited to what kind of computing power it have.
That's the best algorithm I've seen so far. Make a presentation. A meaningful one. then at the end you say thank you and you expect the audience to clap their hands.
we are in future
Nice
And they will make an image, idol, unto the beast that both speaks and causes all who do not take the mark and worship the beast to be killed!!
someone should not have eaten from the tree of knowledge - technology is expanding exponentially but humanity is not - the smarter everyone seems to me the less empathy they have. do machines feel??? do machines love??all the people praying to their phones dont care about anyone but themselves. AMERICA was a christian country. CHINA is a communist state that treats its people like drones and machines. how can a country with no human rights teach anything to be human? china has not become like america was . america has become like what china is. satan wins .
@@elizabethplatchkov7716 ultimately God wins and those of us who believe the words of the son of God, Jesus, and do them will be the winners, to rule and reign with him 1000+ years!!!

I've read through all of your comments he is pro AI and the beauty of it. BUT there is more to AI than he states here.
It already has the ability to lay off Jobs.
It also has the ability to know what your searching for or wanting to purchase online
And communicate w you online.
Sales of products you might be searching for.

Decent talk and i believe there would be a follow up session too on this since there is so much left to be discussed.. Calculations does not equal intelligence.. true.. then there is this whole another level of thinking/morality as well.. we cannot calculate as fast as a calculator can.. but we can distinguish easily between 2 animals or object forms (whereas a computer struggles big time) and that is not calculations but an example of intelligence among other things.. then there is the question of psychologically segregating humans based upon the GOOD and the BAD.. the morality kicks in here.. AGI once it comes in will be way better then humans in terms of intelligence so will learn faster and better then us and crack solutions to problems that we have been struggling for ages (mutation vaccines.. pollution lets say etc).. but will it have morality?.. i dont even know how to define the thought process behind morality so not sure it AGI would be.. but then it doesnt really need morality to be constructive or destructive for humans.. it might do so simply because it is programmed to do a specific and as a side effect might just destroy us..
am really looking forward to a follow up session on this..
Imagine a machine that would make this brilliant young man seem like a dummy. We won't be able to keep up. Will we just become passive recipients of answers from AI? If so, the ultimate answer might be: "Because I say so!"
@Phil Ad we hope!!!
oh boy
Am seeing a future in AI.....

Turing's computer was not the first one! Surely before you do a Ted talk you make sure if your facts?
how that makes me happier is not explained.
How do we know that this speaker is not already being an "AI"-prototype under the process of testing? He sure did a lot of convincing us to welcome "AI" technology with open arms. In my opinion, anyone who doesn't questions the safety of "AI" is should be considered a possibility of "AI" !!!
The problem with AI is that it requires huge amounts of data and huge amounts of comuter time to produce the learning results. These requirements are only available at large tech companies so the suggestion that AI is going to affect everyone is just not true.
Not yet.
AIs are actually extremely fast at producing results, they are just slow at learning. It can take a huge computational power and a ton of data to train a complex artificial intelligence, but once it's trained you can run it on virtually any computer without it being much of an issue.
"They spent all of their time trying to figure out 'if they could' they didn't stop to think 'if they should.'"
In history the should question doesn't exist, i you could not, someone else would !
Lol okay Jurassic Park
What about the future of AI showed my matrix movie
If AI can find a cure Cerebral Palsy, eradicate poverty, make all children of this world happy and hopeful, bring Peace and Harmony in this world and make everyone understand what they are for the greater good, I am all for it.
Everything comes with a price my dear
I want to hear AI explain epiphenomilism. If action is a result of thought consciousness is a condition of the mind. All consciousness is connected.
Y’all rennet the the little tree in Charlie Brown ? N the kids helped the tree ? N it became so brilliant . Please be good to baby ai
you can communicate with the machine, rather let the machine communicate with you, Electrons talk, machines talk to themselves, among themselves. they communicate, on the micro world. human cells do that. so electrons neurons is just a big society of very small elements that might want to say something to the very large agreement .
Who is this guy? We've got to get him to come to our school!
They're gonna need a 128 bit OS in the near future...
Everyone who's ever played a video game of any kind knows that if the difficulty level is set high enough the computer ALWAYS wins.....and now we propose to make a computer AI that can compete against us at cognitive levels millions of times above us.
*Doh*
Ai will not compete with us

Roko’s Basilisk is a thought experiment based upon the concept of a super intelligent A.I, wreaking time travel vengeance upon all those who did not contribute to its’ creation. Which implies that by even knowing about this, you then become a potential target and thus a victim of that A.I.’s future wrath.
Good AI
the joy I see in the face while imagining the future is perhaps very conditioned ... its not practical ... the downside is pretty scary
i dont know snot about AIs but.... when you say Ai's do you mean skynet (sorry, I know u hear this alot) or do u mean some kind of limited learning program that cant code and behave on its own?????
the latter, there is no such thing as skynet yet
I am afraid what else it will do ??
It will take away your job, lol
I would like to leave a constructive opinion, in fact, a reflection. Excuse me for my ignorance, but, correct me, please, if I got it wrong. All the videos I saw about the SUPPOSED ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE and the SUPPOSED MACHINE LEARNING, including this video, only say what the concept is, and what they (the SUPPOSED ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE and the SUPPOSED MACHINE LEARNING) are for, but , do not show how they are produced, that is, it is not shown how these miracles happen. In short: it seems that it is a speculation, or a lie, or an imagination in the minds of those who say that they exist, or just a retransmission of what others say, or a belief. It remains unclear, whether ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE and MACHINE LEARNING, are behaviors that are in the programming algorithm, pre-programmed, or, if they are behaviors that the program does without the algorithm, and that the program would write that algorithm by himself (which would be impossible with today's technology), and would have more lines in the algorithm, or some change in the code (as if it were an invisible hand writing more lines of code or changing the algorithm). They say there is programming involved, but it is unclear, without explanation, if it is already existing programming (and, in this case, there is no machine learning or artificial intelligence); or, if an algorithm appears that was not written by someone. Stay there, the reflection!
