  • One of the big complaints about the NBA is that stars only flock to big cities to play with each other. Colin Cowherd proposes a way to fix that - and Kristine Leahy gives her take on it.

    This is why I can't stand the NBA fan base Apparently Tony Parker is better than Allen Iverson cause he has titles. No logic

      Listen to DeRozan and Lowry declarations. They both knows Toronto doesn't give a shit about Raptors until playoffs. Hockey is the number 1 sport in Canada, not basketball.
      I would still put them on the list but this is not a shame either.

    Just another video where Colin essentially mocks middle America. He loves to make fun of, "small town football guy" and "hillbilly college fan."
    In Colin's world only big cities and elitists should be able to enjoy live sports, the rest of the country can watch, "their local high school team," because they don't have a Fortune 500 company near by. Ridiculous.
    I agree the sports market is over saturated, however, Colin's prescription for that is ridiculous. A 14 team league would get old fast.

      @Bob Brock Hasn't been a problem for the Blue Jays or the Raptors. Toronto is on par with Chicago and Boston for size. If you're the kind of person who likes big cities, it'll more than fit the bill. And being in Toronto will feel very much the same as any American city of similar size.

    Making the league smaller doesn't help parity. Back when the NBA was 8 teams the Celtics still had most of the good players and won the title every year.

      No, because if today there were 14 teams and the big money contracts, the shitty players would never get a chance today.
      In the NBA today, there are a lot of shit players that PLAY and EARN a lot of money, but suck and as a result, the better players are getting away from them and those franchises.

    I agree. Think 20 teams should be sufficient for the NBA. Hate to see stars stranded on these teams that you just know can't compete for playoff spots. Utah management keeps the Jazz competitive, the location keeps Superstars away. I do feel the NCAA should go away from zone style defenses..doesnt really prepare them for the NBA to me.

      @panamcail 7 років тому

      Jovin it's their life. It's a long season and they know they'll make the playoffs. We've entered the grind of the season where games are all about staying healthy. Instead of dwelling on the fact that players are doing what they can to stay healthy, why not watch some of the talent that doesn't get talked about. Some players will barely be able to walk when they're 60 because of their knees, they can take a few days off.

      Altairograph they need rest. They all have the same workout schedule, they workout as a team, so they get tired, as a team. Sure they're younger, but they'll still get gassed during the season. Be upset all you want that grown men decided that they wanted a day off, and I'm pretty sure they've earned it.

    San Antonio, Cleveland, Orlando, Oklahoma City, Detroit, New Jersey, Indiana, and Utah have all played in NBA Finals in the past 20 years. According to Colin's NBA, none of those teams would be in the NBA. Maybe there are too many teams in the league, but 14? That's way too low. Plenty of room in the NBA for mid-market teams. Will they ever win as consistently as the Lakers? Probably not, but look how much that title meant to Cleveland this year or how much making the finals meant to Orlando. Those seasons also make sports great.

    • @searching4pawgs495
      @searching4pawgs495 7 років тому +1

      If you limit the NBA too the major cities, the average level of talent goes way up, and teams are a lot better on average. More people in larger markets, and when teams are good, fans support more. You'd more than make up for the loss revenue from small markets being cut out.

    First things first, Orlando has had 4 franchise players NOT 2.
    1. Shaq
    2.Penny Hardaway
    3. Tracey McGrady
    4. Dwight Howard
    Second thing, 1,000 people move to Florida a day since 2005
    The Orange County "Orlando Area" has grown from 801,000 in 1996 to 1,146,000 in 2016. Throw in Disney/Universal Studios to make us the #1family destination, top 3 in tourist via North America & 2nd in Conventions behind Las Vegas.

      Colton Park
      Philly
      Orlando
      Brooklyn
      Milwaukee (Giannis is good but no star)
      Lakers
      Denver
      Atlanta (Paul and Dwight are good but not stars)
      Charlotte
      Utah
      Boston (Thomas is good but no star)
      Miami (Whiteside is their best player, not a star)
      Detroit
      Phoenix
      That's 13 and there's a bunch of teams with young good players that aren't superstars either that I didn't mention.
      Realistically only
      Golden State
      Cleveland
      Houston
      OKC
      Clippers
      T-Wolves
      Pelicans
      Blazers (depending on how you feel about Lillard)
      Sacramento
      Indiana
      New York
      Have superstars
      Teams like Chicago and Toronto
      Have some very very good players like Butler, Lowry and Derozan but they aren't really superstars and probably won't make it there.

      Less teams,less games,less resting,less complaining you say
      I say less players, even with less teams they still played 82 games back in the 70s so same amount of resting,
      and the biggest factor
      LESS MONEY.

    • @harrygarris6921
      @harrygarris6921 7 років тому

      A lot of times when players rest its because they're sore/hurt like Lebron with his tweaked back or Kyrie with his sore ankle. They could still play through it but their teams gonna make the playoffs anyway so they don't have to. I don't think less games would help because these guys play basketball every day anyway so they're still going to get these minor injuries.

      Yes. If resting is going to be a theme then the prices for all games should be the same. Why should a fan have to pay 2x the price when they face the cavs when all the stars could rest its as good as taking a gamble.
      With less teams a large section of society will never ever get to see games.

  • @JBBGeek
    @JBBGeek 7 років тому +1

    The problem here is that a lot of good players lose their jobs if you reduce it to 14. A lot of good role players would have to find jobs elsewhere. I like the current NBA- everyone has a chance to win. There are plenty of times that people have succeeded in small markets and brought those teams success. At this point, the NBA would destroy its reputation if it cut just over half of the league. Every team has a rich history. Every team has a story. Every team has had a chance to win. Now, some places don't know HOW to win, but if you deflate the league, it's less fun. Here's what you do, Mr. Cowherd: take the 16 best teams and do the playoff bracket that way. Don't destroy the conferences, but take the 16 best teams and make the playoffs happen from that. And...also make the All-Star Game mean something. Have home-court advantage be decided at the All-Star Game like the MLB used to do. Then, it's more competitive. I, for one, like the new CBA. That means that there's less of a chance of stars going to bigger cities and forming superteams and making the league less competitive. What's the Finals matchup going to be? Probably Cleveland VS. Golden State, unless San Antonio makes a meaningful playoff run like in 2014. Either way, those are all superteams, with San Antonio being less talked about than the other two. Just make the league spread farther, and make it more competitive. Make the draft mean something. In some cases, great players leave after 5 or so years and wind up on contenders because their team didn't want to commit. In the 1950s and '60s, contenders were built on the draft, and big trades were a rarity. Now, big trades are a dime a dozen, and the draft doesn't mean diddly-squat.

    I agree and disagree - 14 is too few teams, but there needs to be a cap on the numbers of teams in any league which means more dilluted play and terrible teams for mediocre franchises. That's what some of the leagues are trying do. Put NFL/NBA/MLB to places where players do not want to play or places where the citizens are not asking for a team. I never understood moving a team to place with non-supportive fan-base. With the same team being able to keep its superstars and key players with low attendance.

If you saw bball in the 80s, 90s, early 2000s you can damn near punch a guy and u keep on playing..a guy could throw u to the ground and you just get up and shoot your free throws yet I looked at Jordan during 6 title runs miss a total of 4 games!!!
