My first experience in nascar went like this. How can you watch a bunch of guys going around in a circle? Friend replied “you have to pick someone and watch them”. Me “they all look the same except the rainbow car”. Friend “ that guy is a rookie”. Me “well if he is a rookie and I’m new to the sport I’ll root for him”. Man did I pick the right guy!!!
The first race I went to was the inaugural brickyard. I watched Jeff win and have been a fan ever since. Just loved the entire team and DuPont put the rainbow warrior on the top.
Yes a huge savage, it's the little guys who can pack a powerful punch. I remember seeing an interview with Gordon in the late 90s he said Dale Sr taught me to stand up for myself and let people know your someone that won't tolerate being stepped on

Nascar is something that reminds me of my grandpa we always watched races together and he took me to races. he was a Dale sr fan and I was a Jeff gordon fan but we loved it. my first race was Bristol night race Tony Stewart won and we were both pissed.

The FANS made it a rivalry. Dale raced Jeff the same way he raced Mark. CLEAN because that's how they raced him but make no mistake, Dale was OLD SCHOOL SATURDAY NIGHT when NASCAR was trying really hard to get away from it. Which is exactly what made them popular to begin with. There is not really another type of Racing that you can bump and rub each other.
Him and Earnhardt in their prime was something we will never see again from any 2 drivers. It was funny how many Earnhardt fans hated Gordon, not realizing they were so close off the track, even owning an apparel company together at one point (Chase Authentics).
My childhood idol right there. Got to see him win his last race at Martinsville when it was turning dark because of all the cautions. His last win was the only win I'd ever gotten to see from the stands. Wouldn't have missed that one for the world . Hell of a class act, salute !
And just as great a person as he was a great driver, Gonna be awesowe when Rick Hendrick appoints JG to be OVER THE ENTIRE RICK HENDRICK MOTOR SPORTS NASCAR TEAM!!! IT WILL HAPPEN JUST YA WAIT.. I know he was a great person for I had the pleasure of meeting him Jeff Gordon Arca Driver,.. Half way through dinner, Jeff says I am going to race nascer.. I'm thinking to myself yea... Good luck on the buddy,.. AND WAS NO LUCK this guy had the DETURMINATION like I have never seen,.. Meeting Jeff and to see and hear someone say they are going to do somthing, Well there are the the wanna be, and then there is the I'm going to be no matter what! People think winning 3 races in a season is "Dominating" - Jeff won 13 races in one season, and when he didnt win, it was usually a top 5, including 4 wins in a row. THAT is Domination, folks!

I've actually gotten back into nascar because of Ross Chastain. I was a huge Gordon fan for years, Chastain reminds me of Gordon! Nascar needs to fix the schedule though, no Brickyard 400? Dirt on Bristol? No 4th of July Daytona? All star race at Charlotte? Nascar has ruined the sport but I will always watch good drivers and Chastain has "it" in my opinion!

But the Brickyard was removed because nobody liked it, the road course is actually much better. The dirt could be good if they did it right without windshields and other problems. I forget why they changed the summer Daytona date and the all star race should go to some short track like North Wilkesboro in the future or maybe Darlington. But I don’t think Texas is the answer. The Colosseum sucked, don’t get me started on the playoffs F1 proved last year that you don’t need to create fake drama every year to have a good championship battle, the stages are obsolete because the cars are better this year and keep up with each other for longer. Nascar needs to fix a lot of stuff that the fans have been asking for a long time and they might be able to save their train wreck of a sport

I've heard many fans say they don't like Poconos as well, I'm a huge fan of Poconos and wish they would go back to 2 races there. I understand changes and I'm not against changing the schedule but they have gone way to far in my opinion. I guess we will find out what nascar comes up with next😬 haha

I might be a little biased about Pocono because it’s 30 minutes from me but I wish they would put a road course or a roval at Pocono(there already is kinda but its not wide enough for real racing its just where campers drive through I’m pretty sure and for time trials). Road courses are coming to Nascar weather people like them or not and I would rather them be at existing Nascar tracks and give that track another date than to add another track to the schedule. And tbh the road courses are pretty fun to watch. But while we’re on the subject of Pocono they should really bring back the 3/4 mile that the modifieds ran on. Sorry I went off on a tangent haha but i totally agree with you
There’s a distinct difference between moving someone for the win like Jeff did or not giving anyone any room like Dale did and flat out wrecking 2 cars for a win.
I was a hardcore Earnhardt fan, but as time went on even though I never rooted for him I came to appreciate and respect Jeff for what he was in the sport.
They were friends.. Jeff and dale were way closer than you think.. The rivalry was to sell merch and boy did they... When dale died. Jeff came clean and told the world how much he owed dale..
Jeff Gordon was a consistent person, If he wanted to win a race, he would win the race, if he wanted to wreck someone, he would wreck the person he wants to wreck, and if he is going to fight someone that wrecked him along pit road, he would do it.
Man I miss watching all these guys, Gordon, Kenseth, Stewart, Rusty and all the rest. I still like watching nascar, but this time period was some awesome racing.

I picked Gordon as my favorite because he lived 20 miles away from me and I saw him racing those 800 h.p. engine Sprint Cars on Thursday Night Thunder, was only 16 yrs old, and winning!! When he got to Nascar it was only a year after I moved to SW Virginia and as the race fan that I am I went to Martinsville, Charlotte and Bristol and religiously and I saw him win a lot of races.
Man I was a Sr and Jr fan back in the day and kind of hated Jeff when he was young, but god damn do I miss his talent and fire now. Didn’t appreciate how great he was enough in his prime.
My driver from the beginning and then on to Larson after Jeff retired. So happy Kyle got away from CGR and on to Hendrick. Best thing to happen to him and awesome to see Jeff helping run Hendrick now.
Auto racing and fighting are the only 2 sports I really like so it's a real treat when I see them combined but agreed, every time I see someone get physical with their helmet on it feels cheap, but he obviously wasn't afraid to tussle with the lid off as seen in this video.
Racing isn’t really a sport, it’s an event. No real physical activity. Then again what do I know? I’m not a race car driver so I can’t speak with any authority.
As much as I can say I wasn't a Gordon fan I have to admit he was one of the last generations of the true Earnhardt. I loved junior. But when it comes to a guy being a badass to make a win. It was Gordon, Earnhardt senior, and maybe a small hand full of others are the ones I will always remember.
The difference between "hold me back" and being held back, is hes got 10 ppl pulling him off and hes still got a hold on his shirt trying to pull him in😂
outside of a great driver and one of the goats of the sport. super nice guy as well. one of my moms friends husband was a high up for one of his sponsors and he got me into one of those pre race lunch ins the drivers do when i was a kid. talked to him afterwards super nice he lit had a bunch of those 1/8th sized model race cars at his event sighned a few for me , and then a week later i get a huge package in the mail. open the package and he sent one of his race used helmets, a few pictures, and a set of racing gloves. on top of that he knew i was a bobby labonte fan at the time and got me some stuff signed from him as well
Jeff Gordon was not soft, he was good but not a punk that is for sure, and a phenomenal racer/driver on top of all of that. Much respect. 💯💯💯 So glad he is heading Hendricks Motorsports, it just fits.🙌

My grandmother worked for Hendrick and met him several times, he was nice to her and that made a fan.

Auto racing and fighting are the only 2 sports I really like so it's a real treat when I see them combined but agreed, every time I see someone get physical with their helmet on it feels cheap, but he obviously wasn't afraid to tussle with the lid off as seen in this video.

Racing isn’t really a sport, it’s an event. No real physical activity. Then again what do I know? I’m not a race car driver so I can’t speak with any authority.

Gordon was the real deal for sure. He’s tough, and had that fire.
As much as I can say I wasn't a Gordon fan I have to admit he was one of the last generations of the true Earnhardt. I loved junior. But when it comes to a guy being a badass to make a win. It was Gordon, Earnhardt senior, and maybe a small hand full of others are the ones I will always remember.

outside of a great driver and one of the goats of the sport. super nice guy as well. one of my moms friends husband was a high up for one of his sponsors and he got me into one of those pre race lunch ins the drivers do when i was a kid. talked to him afterwards super nice he lit had a bunch of those 1/8th sized model race cars at his event sighned a few for me , and then a week later i get a huge package in the mail. open the package and he sent one of his race used helmets, a few pictures, and a set of racing gloves. on top of that he knew i was a bobby labonte fan at the time and got me some stuff signed from him as well
Jeff Gordon was not soft, he was good but not a punk that is for sure, and a phenomenal racer/driver on top of all of that. Much respect. 💯💯💯 So glad he is heading Hendricks Motorsports, it just fits.🙌

Back in the day I was a Mark Martin fan, my 2nd cousin, whom I met for the first time in the second grade, just happened to be a racing fan too. He liked some rookie named Jeff Gordon in a silly rainbow car. Only one of us has all of our NASCAR memorabilia from that time.
