snow comes when it comes no point in guessing lots of things to do before it comes. lived in canada all my life and we do winter lol being where you are you get a lot of artic air and deep freeze but less snowfall , where i am we do the deep freeze with warm periods and get lots of accumulation .. its more about moving it out of the way until it melts and pileing it where it isnt a problem when it melts. as for the rodents learn to live with them because there not going anywhere and easily make themselves at home in concrete boxes so your wood is easy to defeat ,,thanks for the videos.. ps all your vehicles should have emergency supplies food and water fire source and fuel clothing and tools first aid kit ..its a long list and should be taylored to your conditions and time of year.

Master electrician here! Great job on wire one recommendation when you run the wire through the metal siding & into the metal box you need to run a piece of Smurf tube with connector over the wire before you put on the metal box so the metal box & siding doesn’t cut into wire and give you a short in the wall or at the box which could causes electrical fire or if the short is big enough you may have to rewire that section of wiring.

    • @thagemizer
      @thagemizer Рік тому +13

Another Master Electrician here, looking for this exact comment.
Running NMD or Romex through metal siding or other metal holes requires a smooth throat or bushing made for the purpose, so that the sharp metal edge does not cut into the plastic wire insulation.
A NMD connector (several varieties are available) would fit that need, and also the requirement for the NMD cable to be fixed or connected to the boxes it enters.
      Nice video!!
Also, professional electricians rarely use those small rolls of wire. Rather they have the larger spools, which can be unwound in the manner you tried, with a broomstick and a stepladder.

Either of you catch that he shared a 12ga neutral on two 20A plug circuits? Could be trouble long before the siding works it’s way through the insulation.

@@Jackham13 According to NEC Article 100, a multiwire branch circuit consists of two or more ungrounded conductors that have a voltage between them, and a grounded conductor that has equal voltage between it and each ungrounded conductor of the circuit and that is connected to the neutral or grounded conductor of the system. (Basically, two hot wires are sharing a neutral wire.) but you also have to consider how much amps are you going to pull on the brach circuit if it takes up more then 75% of the breaker size then it would need to be on a dedicated circuit or you have to go to next wire size and the breaker that equivalent to that wire size. 15A 14g wire 20A 12g 30a 10g etc.

    • @thagemizer
      @thagemizer Рік тому +6

@@Jackham13 As long as the two circuits are different phases, like A and B, that no problem and is very typical of an installation of multiple phase circuits that will share the neutral. On a single phase, 120/240V residential system, the current between phase A and phase B is "out of synch" by 180° so the neutral will only ever see the max current from one of those circuits.

@@Jackham13 It's allowed by the NEC, BUT ONLY IF the two circuits are wired to a double-pole breaker so that both circuits are de-energized at the same time if either one trips the breaker. It's called a "multi-wire branch circuit". It's generally only used in residential wiring. In commercial wiring it's considered bad practice and might not be allowed by local codes.
It's also allowed in a switch leg feeding a single fixture like a bathroom ceiling fan, heater, and light combo fixture where you want to be able to control each function separately.

Before you sheet the inside of your shop, consider adding a “drop beam” at ceiling height, in-line with the column of your shop. In the future, you can add a pulley or winch to this beam and help hoist or move things around. You could get more elaborate and post install a gantry crane system, but for now, a large drop beam could be very beneficial as a pick point inside your shop. Something for you two to consider :)

😮 The home insurance coverage won't be an issue? There's no building code dude from the county/insurance company or similar to inspect the property once built? Here in Sweden, Joe six-pack is not allowed to install any new, fixed high voltage stuff or any accidents/fire won't be covered, actually you will probably be prosecuted. Then, a lot of older cottages and summer homes have various rat's nest wiring, cotton lined etc but I don't think anyone does their own regular 230V/16A wiring.. at least people with families don't..

it's good to get a few fibreglass pull throughs. if you plan to do more electrical, or data they are well with the $20 ish at Amazon for 20m. put in more circuits than you think you need as you are going to use it as a shop. and I always run a cord next to any cable I put in so if I need to put more cables in, you just attach to the cord, add another cord to pull through so you end with the new cable in and a pull through cord. braided cord is best as it has less twist. Paracord is perfect

After recently breaking down on a road trip and having no heat until I could get the truck running again, I installed one, with the help of some friends, on my way home, and it is a great little unit. You figured it out. You always want to place electrical and plumbing before insulation. If you do things out of order you always pay the price of extra work later on.

I love that Delta Pro. I built with a sub panel to power fridge, lights, internet, security system and toyo heater. The Delta Pro would be ideal to power that sub panel. Thanks for showing us that.

When pulling electrical wire, ALWAYS- cut out the center and pull from the center while roll is laying flat on the floor.

I really like you 2 and your videos! Thank you for making my life a little better. One thing I can suggest is to buy around 10 yards of caliche gravel and spread it from your garage out on your driveway and maybe it will help keep that dust down.

That chap going up to recover your Drone made me remember, the older I get the closer to the ground I like to keep my feet
As a kid I loved to climb trees
But nowadays I look up and think nope I don't bounce any more I just splat and break.
Good to see the wiring done.
It's always good to tick a major project of the list like that.
One step less to finish, then the maintenance starts for the rest of your life on the buildings.

I have been watching your channel since the building of the camper. Your tea.work as a couple is excellent.
For winter prep in the Army truck. Use Rotella T-6 5w40 oil. It is synthetic, and works well in your latitude. My daughter and son-in-law live over in Rathdrum. Their '18 Ram 3500 6.7L Cummins powered truck runs excellent during the winter. The Cummins runs quieter and smoother all year round with the synthetic oil. Even though the past few winters have been relatively warm. I used block heaters back in the 80's when I lived in Colorado near Denver. But since switching to the lighter grade synthetic motor oils. It really hasn't been necessary to have a block heater.
Waiting to do the wiring on the shop wasn't a bad idea. Many times shops on farms, ranches, and industrial space. Just run conduit on the wall surface. The advantage is easy access for modifications as your needs change. And can help reduce or eliminate extension cords.
Keep up the adventures and projects.

Have you guys considered getting a ham radio license and setting up an antenna? Might be a nice off-grid option if there's ever a bad storm in the cell phone towers go down and you need help.

Yeah for Andrew on the drone recovery!
I would have thought s spray foam product would work for closing off the bottoms of the siding.
Good on you that you discovered the issue early in the buildings life and are remediating it.
Eager to see you get back into vehicle modification and see what other ancillary devices you come up with for your lot.
    Keep it going

    That video was very cool!
I like how you smoothly worked your sponsor into the video. I'm really interested in EcoFlow, so it actually made the video more interesting. Way to go.
In my 70 years I have built two off grid cabins in Southern Oregon.
The guy who taught me everything always said "bones first". He was referring to plumbing, electricity, critter control etc.
I'm so glad we didn't have to remove that itchy insulation, and then replace it.
I sure would have been happy with the products you have to work with now. We had deep cycle RV batteries. A wind generator made from a Cadillac ambulance alternator, a water turbine in the creek, and a propane powered generator to charge the battery bank in the winter.
45 years ago most off grid products were made in Australia like our beautiful water turbine generator. Expensive to buy and ship. Our solar hot water system was dirt simple, but it would provide 4 short hot showers at a time. A luxury up in the boonies. A junk yard RV refrigerator AC/DC/propane kept the beer cold.
Sure wish EcoFlow was around then, I love their products.
Everyone played music, and we had electricity for lights and amplifiers. Even a 20' x 20' lit dance floor made from 2" red fir slabs.
We were styling in those days.
    Have Fun!

FYI, in the future all you have to do is cut a small slit in the packaging of the electrical wire, find the right end to pull and it will unspool easily in the packaging. You made it alot harder than it needs to be.
