I lived at Cosy Del near the Ox Burn and Temple Peak, 1876 built house, worked in the Park, painted watercolors, lots. I am surprised my namesakes didn't divulge another piece of History. Merv Burke covered over a 45 -ton lens of pure pounamu (nephrite Jade) on the true right before the new lake, high up. He also cut that rock away around Sandy Bluff, I remember him from Mt Cook in the 60's. Robin's can be like that! Thanks for the memory revival Anna. I had 4 huts, and 2 old houses the length of the SI once. My Palimino Scout horse I miss terribly, ears pricked we would go up Mt Fyffe at 3 in the morning, I would be asleep in the saddle getting back home at 9-10 am...........Robin

    What a awesome surrounding! Great!
Sitting on the sofa it looks like easy going up to cascade saddle.

I can see why you were excited to hike that missed section. When Renee gets around to writing his own book, it should be titled: "Gullible's Travels". Great work, you two!

Haha, book writing would keep him occupied. But the area is definitely worth a visit :)

Great video, but I'm sad you didn't do a side trip up to Kea Basin. Sleeping in the rock bivvy up there in a thunderstorm was spectacular! I haven't done the hike for what seems like 100 years, back when the Dart Glacier was pristine right down to below where the river has made the ice cave. Funny how the Cascade Saddle track didn't seem nearly so steep then, even with very heavy packs (for that trip we carried on to the Matukituki. I'm glad you gave Renee his water bottle back when you did because his mood lifted along with the clouds. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

I knoow. This time we were actually a liiiittle wee bit 'time pressured'. How was that very steep decent down to the Matukituki? I'd love honestly do more altitude and steep stuff but...challenged with silly altitude vertigo haha. Looking down on steep decent is... :/.
Are there any tramps you havent done yet? ;) Any ideas on Leslie-Karamea and Wangapeka? ;);)

@@atalefromatrail8181 We had no major problems scrambling down from Cascade Saddle because the tussock was dry. I remember the steep rocky bits because I went down backwards 😆. Plenty of handholds too and we helped grab each other's packs when necessary.
