      Someone said somewhere that to get this ending you had to find the White Claudia (a drug mentioned in SILENT HILL 1), I don't know if it's true, or what other things were necessary.
      But even if it is because of the white claudia effect, isn't silent hill an entity that manifests your psyche? If James was able to create a possibility in his head where Mary is healthy, that possibility could also end up being real. It's like using the power of the entity to your advantage, but not by repression (like in the Rebirth ending), but simply by moving to another universe.
      Even if he never remembers killing her, it doesn't mean he would do it again (since James was never a psychopath, just someone who screwed up terribly once, yeah, but that's it),
      I don't think he is "inside the VHS", but rather in another reality. Let us remember that SH has a great occult and esoteric base. Televisions, as well as radio, can capture "paranormal activity." Remember the Japanese movie "THE RING" (ringu)?. Where the spirit of a dead girl was recorded on camera, and from the recording came out into the real world? I think that the power of SH, despite seeming completely "diabolical", in a certain way is also neutral, proof of this is that it allows the protagonist to face his guilt directly, and heal. In other endings, Silent Hill allowed James to meet Mary again, have one last talk, and make peace.
      So, I think in the ending BLISS james finds a way through the Silent Hill power, even if it's with a natural drug, to create his own reality. Sorry for my english.

      repressing his "intention"?? well that made sense for me as the white claudia drug is just a symbol of his actual antidprsants drug that he long been struggling to take..
      and the event never happened, it's just his nightmare being relived again and again cause he still can't accept the fact that Mary is already gone, him feeling worthless, not taking care enough and spending much of his time for his sick wife, as he obliged to maintain his career as an office worker.
      guilty by his own bad thoughts while holding back his own anger towards emotionally unstable Mary to a state he is in right now, somewhat crazy..
      and finally realized that it's not real, then learn acceptance as he said in the VHS,
      "No.. it's fine. Everything is fine..."
      its just my own wild thoughts, forgive me for the plot-hole though I liked it this way😅😆

    People always ask: What is the canon ending to SH2? It's one of gaming's hottest debates: "Team Silent said In Water is their favorite!" "Guy Cihi said Leave is his favorite!" "The novelization uses In Water!"
    In my opinion, there is no canon ending: Each one represented a different way for James to deal with what he did: Whether he learns to bear the burden of his guilt and move on, like he believes Mary would have wanted - or he can't bear his guilt and goes to join her. Whether he willfully continues living a lie and repeats the cycle that lead him to the town to the first place, or he tries to defy reality to undo his mistakes, possibly suffering a worse fate than any other possibility.
    Bliss is the perfect addition to these endings: James ends up literally living inside of his last good memory, when Mary was still healthy, the two of them were in their 'special place', and there was no bad blood between them. Just the two of them, forever. He turns off the video before he has to confront what he did, willfully continuing to stay ignorant of what he did to Mary... and ignorance, as they say, is bliss.
    It's like a combination of the Maria and Rebirth endings, just like Stillness is a new take on In Water. I really can't get over how good these two new endings are.

    • @SergeyGordienko
      @SergeyGordienko Місяць тому +4

      I'm sorry to disappoint you, but most likely the ending "in water" is canon, in the 4th part James's father appears and it says that James and his fiancée disappeared in Salent Hill several years ago. And this means that James never left the town.

    • @captainash6581
      @captainash6581 Місяць тому +10

      @@SergeyGordienko No, I'm aware of that. No disappointment here. I guess, IMO, it just really doesn't mean what many want it to mean.
      For one thing, James disappearing is really the only way to make a reference to SH2's events without outright making an ending canon.
      For another, SH2 and SH4 weren't written by the same person. The person who wrote for 2 also wrote for 3, and in 3 Douglas says he was investigating someone that disappeared in Silent Hill but the case went cold. Of course the question is, is he talking about James or is he talking about any of the other people that have gone missing there? I think this approach matches the writer's intention for SH2's ending to be up to interpretation.
      And lastly, simply because James's father doesn't seem to know what happened to James, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. We're talking about a guy who has kept a random (to him) baby's umbilical cord in a rotting, smelly box on his shelf in his living room for 30+ years. It could easily be explained that James is estranged from his father.

    • @somedorkydude6483
      @somedorkydude6483 Місяць тому

      @@SergeyGordienko its honestly better if we never know what is cannon there isnt an awnser given by the devs for a reason and sh3 and 4 try to keep it ambiguous and it really doesnt matter because no matter what james story is over and there is no reason it should tie into other sh games beyond breif mentions. It really should be left ambiguous because its more interesting that way.
      People like puzzles because there is a intelectual engagement. The question which ending is cannon removes what the player thinks.
      The players will have their personal interpretations of what they beleive is the most fitting fate for james.
      If there is just one real ending then people obviously wouldnt disregard the other endings but there wouldnt be a discussion that keeps the story in your mind.
      One could argue In all of the engings james rejects reality in some sort of way except the laurah ending. Laurah reppresents reality subtly guiding james to reality and when he keaves with laurah he accepts and lives with the reality handed to him and actually grows as a person.
      One could argue: In water is perfect because of how real it feels and it presents james as somebody who loves his wife more than life itself
      One could argue the maria ending is fitting because theres a poetry to the fact he will repeat the same mistakes again and its a tradgedy that takes more imagination than in water.
      Point is the several different endings lead to different interpretations and outlooks on the story.
      People think they want awnsers but if they got awnsers the only thing they would gain is knowing their favorite ending doesnt count or that their ending does count. There is not much to discuss with straight awnsers

    "The potential for this illness exists in all people and, under the right circumstances, any man or woman would be driven, like him, to the 'other side'. The 'other side' perhaps may not be the best way to phrase it. After all, there is no wall between here and there. It lies on the borders where reality and unreality intersect. It is a place both close and distant.
    But sometimes I have to ask myself this question. It's true that to us his imaginings are nothing but the inventions of a busy mind. But to him, there simply is no other reality. Furthermore he is happy there.
    So why, I ask myself, why in the name of healing him must we drag him painfully into the world of our own reality?"

    Silent Hill calls people there in order to face reality and their own personal demons, to force them to confront the truth. How they react to it is up to them, but Silent Hill won't rest until you come face to face with the things you've done. If you fail, you'll never leave Silent Hill alive.
    If the three main endings are each different ways of reacting to this truth (Leave being acceptance, In Water being consumed by guilt, and Maria being to learn the wrong lesson), then I think this ending is a good showcase of never facing that truth. This is the pivotal moment where James is forced to reckon with what he has done, where his fantasy comes crumbling down around him. What's left of the game is how he reacts to this reality.
    So "Bliss" is him never confronting the truth, him choosing to embrace the fiction he has created for himself, never letting himself confront his sins. He gets to live in a fantasy of his own making, one where he gets to be with his late wife in good health forever. But it's still a fantasy, and one he has fully succumbed to. As a result, he's doomed to be trapped in Silent Hill forever, as a lingering memory in a video tape, blissfully unaware that his life is over.

    Silent Hill makes James live the illusion caused by White Claudia of returning to that moment with Mary, losing his mind in that beautiful lie for all eternity.

    Idk what this truly represents but to me, he entered an alternate reality where Mary was never sick, James never goes back to SH and they live happily ever after. The empty chair shows that James isn’t at the same Lakeview hotel anymore as in the video tape. And he even pauses, giving an expression like “did this really work?”. SH is always shifting and changing, I think this is what it is.

    The most heartbreaking of all the endings. James cut short the moral trajectory of his life, choosing to inhabit a world of memory where his self will never be able to unfold its moral potential as it would do in the real life. He chose to dwell in a world of memories, the world of the past and thus he forever relinquished all present and all future. He chose to be enveloped in a cocoon of solace than to have his self break in a thousand pieces again and again.

      It doesn't really answer the question. We can assume he probably got sucked into the TV as the game purposefully shows James being absent on the couch, and his voice sounds different compared to the tape voice effect like Mary.

    my theory is that he became a drug addict and is stuck in Silent Hill if you follow this ending (White Claudia is the primary reason which may cause hallucination)

      @@enexe6229 I don't know if that's true. I mean,Mary has that recording filter voice with Mono audio all the time while James sounds like always with a Stereo audio. For me at least,James decided to enter into the VHS as inside is Mary exactly how he remembered her. That's his true Mary,before the sickness and the frustration that ended up forming Maria. I don't see Silent Hill giving James a happy ending without a twist also,that would be very heartwarming from its part. James has to suffer no more but in exchange,he's bound forever to that VHS that could be another universe or not.

      No. Even if it is because of the white claudia effect, isn't silent hill an entity that manifests your psyche? If James was able to create a possibility in his head where Mary is healthy, that possibility could also end up being real. It's like using the power of the entity to your advantage, but not by repression (like in the Rebirth ending), but simply by moving to another universe.
      Even if he never remembers killing her, it doesn't mean he would do it again (since James was never a psychopath, just someone who screwed up terribly once, yeah, but that's it)
