The democrats simply showed themselves to be out of touch this time through. Like Bernie Sanders said, they abandoned the working class. They focused on the topics that made up the social hobbies of upper middle class. Topics like racism and sexism that just aren't central to the real struggles of the poor and working class. But some democrats are so certain these are the central topic to most Americans, that they confusedly believe people voting against them is due to those Americans view on those topics. That Americans voted red because they are sexist, racist or homophonic. In truth, they voted red because they are concerned about topics only the right really focused on, economics, inflation, foreign politics. They didn't vote Trump because they hate women, but because they are struggling to buy food. Many may have agreed with democrats about LGBT and racial topics, but they are more concerned with the reduced buying power of their paycheck that keeps their family fed and housed. Simply put, the democrats fell out of touch with most people, and many are switching, such as the Hispanic vote. And sadly, it doesnt seem they want to learn their lesson, and so they will attack and further push away the poor and working class that voted red for the first time in their lives this week.

Not a trump fan at all, but democracy is not in danger from this election. Even if Trump didnt deserve to win it seems more people thought he did and thats what matters. Thats how democracy works
I didn’t fully appreciate it at the time, but looking back, I’m grateful to my English teacher for guiding us through books like Animal Farm, Atlas Shrugged, 1984, and Brave New World. Those stories were powerful warnings about the dangers of authoritarianism. God bless that teacher for helping us see the world a little more clearly!
Democracy worked this election but thanks to the Supreme Court’s ruling that a president has complete and utter immunity, Trump might use that power to subvert democracy. Two examples being to change the rules of how elections work to allow himself to run for another term or use his presidential power to eliminate his political opponents. This is speculation but speculation that wasn’t possible before the Supreme Court’s ruling, not to mention some quotes that Trump has said himself such as “vote for me and you’ll never have to vote again” and “I only want to be a dictator for one day”
Going social media Go talk to some Trump supporters A lot of them are very remorseful that they voted for him feeling that they were misinformed and cheated. Most people are not happy that you won
I heard a lot of talk about not voting in protest for Gaza. That they couldn't vote for either on that principle. Well Gaza will likely be annexed now so good on them for standing for their principles I guess? The Republican dissuasion campaign was effective.
@@sor3999yeah, that strategy really backfired if it turns out that’s why 40 million people didn’t vote. Trump isn’t a pacifist and will likely try to do something to Iran for the uncovered assassination attempt (Iran tried to off Trump). I'm an independent and as much as I despise trump and think he's going to ruin this country, the dems have been consistently ignorant for years. Biden should've never tried to run for a second term as it left little time for Harris to campaign. But more importantly, there was never even a real democratic primary. The lack of a primary race where there could have been a flood of support for the nominee never was able to happen. No one wanted Biden to run again. Had someone like Walz run the primary, I think he could have possibly won the presidency. It's like how they crowned Hillary over Bernie and she lost. The Dems keep forcing their candidate down the throat of the people and they leave the with a choice of voting for the lesser of two evils so people vote for neither candidate. Plus the fact that both parties have given into the demands of the radical far left and far right and have left little to no room for someone in between those extremes. Politics have gotten so radicalized to the extremes that it's just a matter of time before the fuse runs out and the bomb explodes. I believe Trump is that fuse and it's been lit. I'll be shocked if there isn't some kind of major political uprising in the next few years, possibly civil war. But ideally we get a few third political party to take hold that actually does what's best for the everyday citizen instead of what's best for the wealthy, the big businesses that own politicians and the religious right or woke left and actually make this a country that is good for everyone and free of the hate and selfishness that has infected so many people. If Trump follows through on half of what he's said he'll do, this country will not exist as it does today and the nation will fracture apart. I don't trust a felon to run this country.
You are aware that many dictator are first elected. Don't get me wrong the election result should be respected. And I'm not even saying that is what he is trying to become. But yes you can have a fair election and still have democracy in danger because of the candidate that fairly won
To be fair, the electoral college isnt really democracy. Trump won the popular vote anyway, so yeah he was elected by democracy. I think what many people are scared of is what trump will do to the democratic process in america after he takes office
Imagine being a Trump voter and not smart enough to use basic reasoning or critical thinking. I'll try to simplify it so even you can understand! This election, not the problem. Next election, getting canceled because Trump is never willingly leaving office. Try to keep up, it's embarrassing watching you bring down the national IQ.

I think it's less of a shift in political leanings and more that Dems forget that elections are 9 out of 10 times about the economy. Social issues like abortion and LGBTQ are important but are second order issues for most Americans. Remember that in 2022 Dems beat expectations of a "red wave." The only reason they lost the house to a razor thin Republican majority was because of poor candidate choices and campaigning in NY western districts.
Nope not true. The younger population definitely all were swayed red, including me. Kamala simply was not fit for the job, not sure why older folk are so set on parties rather than the candidate
Problem is the working class does not view the right to an abortion and freedom for a man to walk in a woman's bathroom as human rights. Human rights are when you can afford to fuel your tanks with gas and put bread on the table for your family. When inflation is so high that this becomes near impossible the working class will vote red
Two entirely different contexts There were reasons why Trump’s first term was such a failure He was constantly firing and re hiring people for example Now republicans have the majority in practically every branch of government and the president won’t be held accountable for any illegal action as long as it’s deemed “an official act” So he can effectively do whatever he wants
People are sick of Democrats taking their positions of power for granted, as this article tacitly reinforces. Politicians are guaranteed nothing and that’s a good thing. If a political party feels at threat, that means they will actually do their job of trying to make the lives of their constituents better to maintain their favor. Democrats have largely forgotten this in the last twenty years. That’s why Harris unfortunately lost.
Yeah, people felt they weren’t represented by the Democratic Party, so they made their voices heard. Now the left will have to consider them if it wants to win
Lowering taxes (especially for the rich and for corporations) will increase the US debt. To counteract, they will have to slash government spending, which will increase US unemployment. The corporations will not be able to hire all those new unemployed people, so it is likely that it will put the USA in an economic recession. That's my prediction.

Most dictators got into power by being voted in and just never left. Orban was voted in, Erdogan was voted in, Putin was voted in, Hitler was voted in, and Maduro was voted in. Democracy was destroyed soon after.
Democracy to them is two parties. One left-wing which exists to continuously shift further left and win unchallenged in perpetuity, and one right-wing which exists to continuously shift further left and be blamed for all societal ills.

Looking at the demographic breakdowns it becomes very clear there are two demographics he's winning over while everyone else remains blue: White men, White women, and Latino men.
Trump made huge gains in EVERY demographic. Of course his numbers are still very low among, for example, black women. But they're double what they were in 2016 or 2020. The Democrats should, hopefully, realize that treating women and minorities as helpless children in need of rescue is wearing very thin on people.

Actually the red wall will be NV,GA and AZ with the new census and house seats appointment, the Republicans will only need to win those 3 lean red states to win the election, they will not need PA,WI and MI anymore.
It probably was just apathy. The numbers were inflated in 2020 compared to elections from years prior, probably because of mail ins. People were either unable to make it to voting stations in person (despite having weeks to do so) or couldn't be bothered to leave the home without a simple mail in option.
If the the Dems cheated last election, why not this election? The people who believed the election was literally rigged did absolutely nothing, so what would stop them from doing it again since they can be confident that there will be not resistance.
Both of the parties have huge question marks over them. The Republicans have no idea what to do without Trump. The Democrats lost enormous numbers of women and minority voters this round, which is going to make them question the strategy of treating those groups like helpless children in need of rescue. If Trump fails to engineer a successor or the Democrats fail to jettison the identity pandering, the other could easily sweep.
@@cloudyfromtpotrealA fluid, democratic voting system should not be stable… a stable voting system that votes for the same views every cycle is just a dictatorship.

I think of it less of a right shift, and more of just the democratic choice for candidate and the current people in charge of the party did an exceptionally bad job. More people came to Trump on the basis that they didn’t want Kamala in. And I can’t really blame them for that assessment.
Yes, it is. Do you not recall how he tried to overturn the 2020 election? Do you not see how Republican states and swing states have attempted to make it more difficult to vote? Have you not heard Trump's statements about how "this is the last time you'll need to vote"? Democracy worked this election but thanks to the Supreme Court’s ruling that a president has complete and utter immunity, Trump might use that power to subvert democracy. Two examples being to change the rules of how elections work to allow himself to run for another term or use his presidential power to eliminate his political opponents.

It’s time for us to plan and demonstrate
I suggest joining working class families union or something like that
I always feel better after hearing what other likeminded ppl share their sentiment
Its a broad shift to the traditional Center, not Right.
A 5% shift next election in NJ, Virginia, NH, Minnesotta etc would flip them all red!
One can pray 🤞🙏
Hope so
Democrats lost touch with the people 😒
They certainly lost touch with me since they couldn’t beat a convicted felon who proclaimed “They’re eating the pets” at the debate earlier this year. And they’re going to lose it until they gain both houses and the oval office again. (And even there, I still might not vote.)
@@solidstorm6129 trump isn’t a convicted felon. He’s being indicted for felony charges.
Innocent till proven guilty.
It's not that big ok, its just a back and forth.

@@anarchytype2200 yeah… sure….
And how exactly is democracy in danger?
Because the media said so
Because CNN said so
Because CNN said so
because it is threat to democracy when a candidate they dont like gets elected in a democratic way
Apparently, Trump is setting up an authoritarian dictatorship, but its all according to the media so don't worry
It was more of a case of low turnout among Democrat voters than a shift to the right. Rural voters turned out in large numbers.
I know that tons of people in the middle politically and slightly left leaning were extremely apathetic about this election. The constant political dialogue, polarization, and discourse has been truly exhausting the last 8 years.
When that 25% tariff hits Canada and Mexico, ya know our largest trade partners by far, there are gonna be a lot of hungry children in our near future.
Do you even know how trump is even going to use those tariffs…. Go research it.. (it’s for leverage for better trade deals etc. and of course if you tariff something prices will go up that’s how it works)
@ that’s… not how tariffs work my guy lol
@@nathanlowry9421 uhh did you even read what I said… trump is using tariffs for leverage..
@@nathanlowry9421 and children being hungry in the future is nearly impossible trump’s main point (also) to his tariffs is to bring businesses and jobs to the USA
@ dude other than like for political reasons the world could basically be cured of world hunger. Who do you think looks down on free lunches at school? It’s certainly not the dems. Y’all wanna talk a big game about solving child hunger and turn around and deny the actual applications to fix the problem right here on our soil. Clearly either too privileged to know what’s actually going on or are just disingenuous. Check out how you’ll probably say “well that’s not what I think” while supporting the organization that literally shoots those kinds of programs down first.
We didn't shift right. The left shifted left and we didn't move
We were never meant to live in a democracy. We were meant to live in a constitutional republic
A constitutional republic is a type of democracy. Any system where leaders are elected or policy decided by popular vote is a democracy.
@@SergioRCambra By definition, a republic is a representative form of government that is ruled according to a charter, or constitution, and a democracy is a government that is ruled according to the will of the majority.
The main difference between a republic and a democracy is the charter or constitution that limits power in a republic, often to protect the individual's rights against the desires of the majority.
@@XD-inator an archaic definition based on technicalities. In more realistic terms every western first world state is a republic, as all have a constitution, and a democracy, as all are (ostensibly) ruled by the will of the majority of it's citizens.
So yes, the USA has always been a democracy, more specifically a constitutional republic.
Edit: nice profile picture by the way. I just took notice of it

Democracy is in danger !?!?!?! Pretty sure we all voted correctly
My family is majority democratic and a i grew up always identifying as a liberal. But i would say in the past 5 years my views have slowly changed ive had a lot of interal dialogue and figured out that my beliefs allign more with the right.
Happy to have you on the team!
Hey you seem to be smart
You’re probably going to find out soon that you were actually always a liberal, but the democrats alienated you by not doing anything helpful for the last 8 years. Its not that you’re more right wing. Its just that the democrats dont stand for what the average liberal really wants anymore. Not to mention, the republicans have become slightly more liberal in recent years, making them a much more palateable choice for the average american liberal.
Same with me the left always sort of looks at the present and not the future they don’t seem to realise actions have consequences.
2016- A New Hope
2020- The Empire Strikes Back
2024- Return of The Jedi
The electorate didn't shift right, the democrats simply shifted hard left.
Democracy is not in danger. The people have voted. Get over it!
Oh no, people use democracy to choose their leader… the guy we didn’t like… democracy has never been weaker
It’s not to the right, it’s TO THE RIGHT. Like voting for Mitt Romney and voting for Trump is like two different levels of right.
Why
we're literally living in an episode of The Boys rn 💀
Love how the article says democracy is in danger, when he was democratically elected....
"I like trump because I hate inflation!" -- Trump proposes tariffs designed to...increase inflation. Birds chirp.
Just say you don’t understand how terriffs work
@@aw8580bro tried to dunk on someone while spelling the word wrong and also not knowing that we pay the tariffs when goods are imported into the US. A “China tariff” just means the suppliers have to pay more to bring you the goods we import from China….
I’m really tired of all you people who, I’d bet, don’t have a degree in economics, thinking you know how tariffs, inflation or the economy work. You heard some rhetoric from someone else or a UA-cam video and now you think you know how the economy works….
@enlighten us then, you can’t just trash talk and not provide anything of value after
It would increase the prices of certain categories of goods and that too only for imported ones. It's a move meant to strengthen the domestic markets and avoid a race to the bottom. It's classic economic protectionism.

I’m so scared remember when he turned America into his empire last time. Oh jeeez
Uh no. Because that didn’t happen. America remained America.
Did you even do any research last time?
Or do any research in right now?
America never was or will be a empire
Even california was mostly red!! Thats a big achievement.
Land doesn't vote. People do. California is one of the nations leading agricultural departments. Population wise those centers matters little, as the population density is near enough to zero that those counties for the most part, have very few people living inside.
People vote. Not land. There are about 48% Republicans in California, with 52% Democrats.
If you removed the electorial college you'd find most Califnorians on both sides would be very happy with that, as it'd mean the state would definitely be a compeition state of the presidency. Same with most states wth high population centers.
Democracy isn’t in danger. It is the bureaucracy
I wish Democrats would take this as a wake up call to go back to people who actually work for a living but it looks like they're just doubling down on calling everyone racist bigots or whatever.
Why are New Hampshire and Maine combined in the maps shown 😭 Like there’s no border between them
