My experience with fraying is it will keep fraying like your mum's string quilt. You were smart to find a permanent glue. If I were you, I'd glue all the edges of all the squares containing that fabric. I'd also zigzag or glue all future squares of that fabric. For the circle's made with this fabric, I'd do some extra quilting inside the circle to secure it extra well... anticipating this fabric to fray in the circle shape as well. I'd take this precaution now, as it's heartbreaking to have to mend something you could have taken care of during the making. 💖🌞🌵😷
Quilt is beautiful Rachel, can’t wait for the pinks let’s hope a few rows! The Frey check, could overlock square before stitching. It reminds me of the 60s and 70’s, using nail varnish if you laddered your tights to stop the ladder getting bigger before darning it. Many of time I have done this and when taking tights off the nail varnish would stick to your skin. 😊
Hi Rachel! I love the fabrics and shapes you chose for your temperature quilt. This will be a lovely quilt when finished. It is now really. I haven't found the time to make one maybe next year. I'm sharing your channel as much as I can. Keep up the great work 💕
Hi from Oklahoma, USA. I love your quilt. I am brand new to quilting. Just about to add binding to my first quilt. I'm way older than you, LOL. I'm 59, but loving seeing the things you make. I am making a temperature cross stitch. It's a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop and consists of 12 houses with connected hearts for the average daily temperature. The summers are very hot here in Oklahoma, so I'll be quickly moving from pink to red between June and July. 🥵
Sewmena918 being from Oklahoma, maybe you could invent a tornado quilt. Everyday your squares could be “yes” for a tornado or “no” for a tornado!!! I know it’s be tornadic Spring! Stay safe!
Beautiful quilt, Rachel! Quilting it should take care of the fraying on the inside but I’d stitch around the outside of the quilt (stay stitch) to keep it from fraying until it is bound.
It’s looking gorgeous Rachel 🤩 do you know what I’ve found pretty fascinating is the colour choices for really cold temperatures! Most people seem to choose a very dark purple then to blue. My brain associates icy ❄️ colours with very cold temperatures 🤓 (I’m in Australia) so I’m moving from pink to icy mint colours with my flying geese 🪿 quilt .
Your quilt is looking so pretty. I love the fabrics that you selected, especially since they are prints and not all solids. I think the prints give it a lot for interest. Happy quilting.
Kate over at the last homely house is always doing color wash quilts and I'm thinking this temperature quilt will make a beautiful color wash quilt, with out having her eye for color. Because you started yours in January in the northern hemisphere, it will wash from blue to pink back to blue. But in the southern hemisphere it will wash from pink to blue back to pink in the time period. Very interesting. 💖🌞🌵😷
It will be lovely. I knitted a temperature blanket last year: I live in East Anglia and didn’t go below zero at all but did go into the 30c+ a few times. I was making as a challenge with a friend who lives in the West Midlands and it was interesting to see the comparison of our temperatures, the west being generally chillier. We both used the BBC Weather app for 2pm where we live.
Hi Rachel, the temperature blanket is great! I crocheted a temperature blanket years ago. Now I will definitely quilt a blanket. I can't follow you on Facebook because I don't have one, so I was very happy that you showed the blanket on You Tube. I enjoy your videos. Greetings from the north of the Netherlands. Wilhelmina.
You may consider sewing your strips together differently. Yes, definitely put this one away for the time being. But consider sewing 2 strips together in pairs, then sew the pairs together into quads. Then sewing the quads together. This will give strip #1 much relief. 💖🌞🌵😷
Super glue also works well for fraying, but it does darken the color. It also may be acidic, so it may cause damage long term. However, it's beautiful for the edges of a piece and dries fast.
I would also be interested in tips for frayed fabric during the quilt making process. Thanks for showing us the product you found as I had no idea that it even existed 😂
This is looking so cool! Such a bummer that the polka dot fabric is fray prone, but what a brilliant solution! Ive not seen e6000 fray check before.....but we use e6000 glue for affixing crystals to damce dresses & its fab! Happy quilting!
Hi Rachel, sounds lime an Interesting quilt project. I:be never heard of a temperature quilt before. Is this a new idea or and o!d one? Nice work as usual.
They are much better than you! They didn't really hurt at all while I was sewing the last few weeks, but I am mixing in some machine sewing to take a break when I needed. Thank you for asking 💖🧵
Beautiful, thanks I’m doing ok with mine I’m doing 18 across by 21 down I think would love to send you a progress photo but not sure how maybe tag you on instagram thanks for your inspiration 😊
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Well done on completing your first quilt 💖

I like your pillow in the background on the couch. Very pretty and colorful! Your quilt work is so beautiful. ❤

Good idea! Thank you!
I'm having a terrible time with fraying so I'm really glad you shared what you did. I'll try fray check. ❤😊
You are delightful to watch and your quilts are beautiful!

How lovely to do that with your friend! Think of me and my pink colours if we get over 30 this year 🤣💖
Thank you for the update on your temperature quilt, Rachel. Have a great weekend.
Thank you! You too!
Great-looking quilt!
Thank you! 😊

I have used a very light interfacing and also tried wash away for fraying.
so pretty, look forward to when it is completed.
Beautiful!!!
The quilt is looking beautiful. The colors and patterns give it a happy atmosphere.
Thank you Mary 💖

Stunning quilt as usual! You have a real talent for choosing your fabrics. The quilt and pillow in the background are beautiful as well!

That quilt is sooo pretty! I love the colors.

Yeah that's why I trusted the brand, their other glues are great!
It’s a lovely idea ✨
I love this ❤ now i want to make one, too 😅
Hi Rachel, sounds lime an Interesting quilt project. I:be never heard of a temperature quilt before. Is this a new idea or and o!d one? Nice work as usual.
I think the idea has been around a fair few years, maybe more common in knit/crochet
So pretty…❣️
I like your color choices.
Is there a particular website that you go to for the weather information?
Thanks 😊
Thank you. I use dateandtime.com
Your quilt is beautiful, great job and choice of fabrics. Some of the circles look larger than others, is there a significance to that?
She varied the sizes for interest so not boring 😊
Just cannot get tana lawn here. Have to import from aussie so it goes from expensive to really expensive to buy here lol
I appreciate its expensive, the fabrics used in this are liberty quilting cottons rather than lawns
@@stitchwithrachel yes I use them too.
❤
How are your hands doing? Your Blocks are cute! Hope your hands doing well.
They are much better than you! They didn't really hurt at all while I was sewing the last few weeks, but I am mixing in some machine sewing to take a break when I needed. Thank you for asking 💖🧵
What does The size Of The cirkles Jean?
Yes I’d like to know that too x
I just did different sized circles for visual interest and to reduce fabric waste
❤❤❤❤
💙so pretty 🩵
